  1. I just took mine in this morning to get the OSS replaced. The tech said it is not a common problem at all but while they were replacing the seals they did the OSS also. I am covered under a premium warranty that I purchased with the used Edge that covers me for 3 years. The problem is that the OSS is inside the transmission case so you have to take the trans case off to get to it. I would think it would be covered under basic warranty though. Hope that helps. BTW my Edge is an 08 with 103000KM on it.
  2. I have had Jeeps for many years and the Canadian versions all came with block heaters standard. Does anyone know if the Canadian Edge comes with a block heater? Is there a factory version at all and has anyone put a block heater in themselves? Thanks
  3. I found a set of 2 manuals for the 2008 (part 1 and part 2 not the wiring diagram) off ebay, paid around $70 I think.
  4. Had my 2008 LTD AWD for about a month now and I love it. No complaints at all, converted the interior to LEDs and it is even better! The problem with coming to a forum is that people are usually here searching for a resolution to a problem, the vast majority of drivers don't have issues and so don't frequent message boards. Therefore you are more likely to find people bashing products than praising them. For myself, I am here to learn about the vehicle and how to troubleshoot and fix it myself just in case. Also, to get tips on how to improve the way things came from the factory. All in all, I came from a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and hate to admit it but I like my Edge better...
  5. I am waiting for my FSM to arrive and I am sure it will be covered in there however I don't like the way my roof seems to struggle to close. Does anyone have comprehensive instructions about how and where to lube the tracks for the roof? I have searched and found people talking about it but no descriptions of how it is done. Any assistance would be appreciated including what lube you used (white lithium, spray silcone etc...).
  6. For my taste that cutoff is nowhere near where it needs to be not to blind oncoming drivers. Let me know if you come out with a drop in kit to convert the 07-10 headlights to projectors. I am sure you would have a bunch of potential buyers here...
  7. You seem to be the guy to ask, and i know you don't want to damage your (good) reputation on this site but do you have photo evidence that the cutoff of the standard reflector is suitable for an HID kit? I am not setting you up for a knock down, I just have never seen a reflector with a decent enough cutoff not to blind traffic. I would be happy to be corrected and even enough to purchase your kit if I feel comfortable with the evidence.
  8. Thanks for the (long) post. I have found a dealer in Canada that sells the stuff (I am sure there are many) on their web site and can go up to 12 mil for the really heavy protection. The reason I was looking initially was to protect the lip of the fender at the back from getting scratched putting things into the truck. I think with a little practice on smaller areas first you could probably get decent enough at it for it not to look like a hack job. I don't want to take anything away from the professionals at all, but many of us are just adventurous enough to want to try it ourselves. The pricing seems OK and I have noted there are already links to other US vendors on here. Just wanted to represent for the Canucks. Oh, and GO VANCOUVER for the Stanley Cup!!!!
  9. I am not convinced that the cutoff for the Edge reflector is built for the HID kits. If anyone can show me an 08 with HIDs with an appropriate cutoff then I may change my mind. However, does anyone know if the 2010 or 2011 (not sure which) projector fits the 08? Or if anyone does a projector drop in retrofit for the 08? My main concern is putting an HID into a housing that was built as a reflector and as such will scatter light too much and blind other drivers. I just don't want to be THAT guy...

I just took delivery of an 08 a week ago and it was 42 degrees with the humidity here yesterday and it was like an ice box in the truck. No complaints at all!
  11. Has anyone been to a Scion dealer (especially Canadians) and seen how much they are charging for these? Shipping plus duty seems to be over $100 or more for the part. I have a Scion dealer around the corner from me, I wonder if it would be easier to order from them? Anyone? or, for that matter, anyone have an alternative way of protecting that lip? I Notice the herculiner guy didn't respond with pics but that is a good idea. What about a layer or two of the 3M clear bra stuff (Scotchcal), would that do the trick? I am a little concerned about getting dirt and water in behind and ending up with the lower edge peeling up a little. Any alternatives are worth exploring, right? .. so I just checked and found a place in Canada that sells the 3M Scotchcal up to 12mil thick. The site is here and I am not affiliated with them but I would assume they are not the only place to get this thick film. At 12mil its about as thick as you can get in a tape, it's 12 thousandths of an inch which is about as thick as a standard shower curtain.
  12. I am amazed that there isn't a drop in HID projector kit for the Edge. Does anyone know if the 2011 projectors will fit into the 08 Edge?
  13. While I agree that putting HID into a reflector housing is about the worst thing you can do, I have to say that comparing an H9 or HIR bulb to HID is far from accurate. I had an HIR conversion in my Jeep and compared to stock it was amazing but compared to HID it was like a mouse holding a candle. I really wish anyone doing HID would do projectors and stop thinking it's OK to put HID systems into stock reflector housings...
  14. I found that one of the LED units still flickers but there are a total of 6 LEDs in the unit and only 2 are blinking. Anyway, I did the whole swap, with some finesse and some brute force I got the done light, map lights, rear cargo and licence plate done. I didn't have enough festoons to do the individual lights in the rear, they will have to wait. The biggest pain was getting the bulbs out of the license plate, I eventually broke them and pulled them out with pliers. Also, getting the surround from around the map lights was tough but if you pull it towards the rear of the vehicle, the plastic tabs slide out and it comes free. Here are some pics (sorry about the size): Console with only one side done, big difference! Rear Dome pulled out and taken apart. Also included in the picture is the festoon that I replaced with the LED for comparison Rear license plate done - looks amazing! Other pics here: My link
  15. I recently picked up a 2008 Edge Limited AWD and was happy to find the same bulb sizes as my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I will be pulling the LEDs this weekend from the Jeep and using them in the Edge. Hopefully the flicker issue I developed in one of the license plate bulbs will disappear...
  16. yes it is Ford ESP and it is from the date of purchase so 3 years or 36K of MY KMs. I appreciate the sentiment about the gambling however I defy to you find a vehicle that is as reliable as a roulette wheel. I admit I don't know the warranty claim rate for Ford other than it is historically stable around 2.5% of revenue but not the actual % of vehicles that experience a claim. However, knowing that the reliability of the vista roof is under speculation and that there is a known problem with the PTU seal which is apparently getting fixed soon I believe it is better to be safe than sorry. By the way, if you played the roulette table 100 times on a single number your win rate would be exactly the same as the Ford Warranty Claim rate payout, 2.5%. It's the same argument around insurance of any kind. For example, most pet owners don't carry pet insurance, but I do. I have had over $10K in insurance claims on my previous pets because I know how you will get gouged by the vets and I won't stand for it. Same principle here, I won't stand for being charged obnoxious rates to replace parts that shouldn't need replacing when I could have protected myself. 3 years from now when I know the vehicle and have had time to go over it, maintain it and know it's weaknesses I won't need the warranty. Until then, colour me cautious.
  17. I got the 3 year 60K full package like a new car warranty since i don't know what the vehicle has been through. My last Jeep extended warranty paid out in the first year so I am a big believer... After the first big items I did everything myself and that truck is over 200K and going strong now.
  18. I just picked up my "new" 2008 AWD Ltd yesterday and noticed that the chrome looking surrounds on the fog lights are cheap plastic and have chipped and turned partially green. I would like to take them out and repaint them with something better and more durable but I need to know how to get them out. There are no screws I can see so i assume I have to go in behind the fascia, is that correct? Anyone with any help would be appreciated. I also went to Canadian Tire to find the Chiltons manual but they said it didn't exist!? Are there any repair manuals out there or a source for FSM (online or other?). Thanks in advance.
  19. Is that light effect on the side cowling a factory detail? I assume so, and it looks awesome! I too am picking up a Canadian AWD 2008 and wanted to find projectors for the headlights. Will the newer year lights fit the 08? What is the model bracket for the 2008? Was it 07-09 or 07-10? Thanks
  20. Get your compressor from Home Depot not Crappy Tire... But the jack I got from CT is still going strong after 5 years of Jeep work ... and that is a LOT of use!
  21. I am picking up a used 2008 Edge Limited this afternoon. I have been a Jeep guy my whole life, this will be my first Ford vehicle ever and I am hoping it won't be a money pit like the Jeep was. It has 70K on the odometer and it's a Canadian model since I am from Aurora Ontario. Not knowing the history of the Edge nor knowing the reliability I opted for the extended warranty so hopefully I will be covered for anything that comes up. I have always maintained my own vehicles so I'm hoping this forum is the place to be to learn about the ongoing maintenance required.
