  1. Live in Avondale, Work in Tempe/Chandler. Will get work done probably closest to the office -- Ernhardt. Haven't had more than an oil change yet. No *knock wood* issues yet. I've installed DVD players in the headrests and will suss out seat covers by March. Anyone found good ones (for AZ) yet? My SEL+ is creme brulee with a camel interior. Still though...leather in AZ in summer is difficult to deal with.
  2. 'splain, please. A LEO would be what?
  3. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, you didn't MEAN to rub me the wrong way. Assuming you're something around 51 (cause you wouldn't do anything illegal and you don't parse like you're from Idaho), you're not old enough to have the inflexible "nothing is as good as it used to be" mentality you're choosing to display. I am from the Wasatch Front. I can, did and choose to no longer drive in the snow. I even did a stint in the wicked wiles of Wisconsin just for fun. And then permanently beat it for Phoenix. Why live in it when you can visit it? :shades: AWD on wet pavement and puddles blows the doors off any vehicle I've ever owned. Publicly humiliates any vehicle I've ever rented (excepting the Toureg from May this year). I'm nowhere near the eggs spert that the guy above me is. I'm merely comparing a Honda Accord, Mazda MX-6, Explorer 4WD XLT, Nissan Maxima, Saab 2000 Turbo, Datsun 210, Datsun King Kab , Taurus and --- forgetting something --- oh yes --- all 100+ of those rental cars over the years. I travel for business. What some people would refer to as "a lot". It flat out rocks. It's worth a mile per gallon. And there you are...whether you can drive in it, flex with it, deal with it...or not.
  4. Can't. :extinguish: We don't get much snow in Phoenix. We HAVE been getting a lot of rain recently however. I can say without hesitation that the Edge has been the BEST on wet roads and puddles the size of Guatamala I've ever had...and that includes the Explorer I traded in for it.
  5. Hey! Bookends! Same car, there's another her in Phoenix (not mine) if the dealer will manage the trade. No Nav, but everything else.
  6. Just get the adaptor. The new weld would leave you worring every steep incline, every turn.
  7. My '98 Explorer had 228,000 miles on it and the transmission was starting to slip. Okay, it was actually slipping. I loved it still, it had been wonderful to me, butchaknow...it was time. I test drove everything under the sun, it seemed, for weeks. I visited the Lexus, Toyota, GMC, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Volkswagen, Nissan, Saturn, Mercury etc lots, I drove cars, trucks, SUVs and CUVs just to drive some of them. The two that surprised me were the Lexus 400h (for a $50,000 car, I expected luxury. It's all there, but no zha zha zhu) and the Saturn Outlook. Couldn't find the Outlook equipped the way I wanted it, didn't figure I had time to order one before the Explorer gave up the ghost. I figured I'd just go buy an Expedition. I'd put off driving the Explorer and Expedition for some reason. And after driving them....I didn't like them. Walking out of the Ford lot, something I hadn't noticed before caught my eye. I drove it. I LOVED it. Open, well equipped, cool featured, tight turning radius, smooth stopping, smooth riding, nimble, AWD, decent gas mileage, doesn't look like a station wagon, Edge. And, WOW! X-plan thru the office. Done. I might have bought the one I drove, but it was black and I live in Phoenix. Black cars with black leather interiors? In Phoenix? One word: insane. So, I bought the AWD creme brulee SEL+ with a camel interior, the vista roof and some other stuff. Added DVD headrests and haven't looked back.
  8. It makes sense that once a trailer (or something) is hooked up to the trailer hitch that something is within range of the sensor. It also makes sense that I could turn the sensor's alarm off when I'm towing....if I knew how. The owner's manual wasn't any help, anyone else know? Thanks!
  9. Yeah, Dave does a goojob...*hic*
  10. Costco has them for $799 installed with 8" screens. And you get the warranty. Good Hands here recommended an eBay set which I bought and really like. $400 from Hong Kong. Does require some faith. They match (also have camel interior) VERY well...not an exact match, but nothing that you notice. Unlike Good Hands, I was over my head. I got them installed just fine, but couldn't wire them with anything that resembled confidence. I paid a guy from Audio Warehouse $40 under the table to wire them. Do a search for the rest of the information.

    Color Change

MUCH better! Now, what shall I wear tomorrow....
  12. I don't hate them, but I don't find them better looking than the original. Nice that they match the paint though.
  13. Forgot to mention: A) the eBay DVD players are worth the money, they match perfectly and all the toys are included. $329 + $69 FedEx shipping. They got here in 2.5 days. There's no hope of a warranty kicking in if they malfunction though. It's *very* cool that my two DDs can watch completely different movies or one can play a game while the other watches High School Musical. B ) installation isn't for us novices (even if you do own a multimeter), I ended up tapping a moonlighter from Audio Warehouse to finish wiring them (the correct version of wiring) for $40. That's good though, since I was attempting to tap into the cigarette lighter and they'd always be powered. Not a good idea, though my DDs disagree. :P C) They're more money, and no independent viewing/gaming, but you get awarranty, bigger screens, all the toys and installation. $799 installed at Costco: http://www.costco.com/Browse/ProductSet.as...topnav=&s=1 I'm not sure I'd pony up the extra $350 for the Costco version, but it's better than the $1200 to $2400 the dealers around town quoted me and doesn't require the faith of ordering a set from Hong Kong.

    Color Change

It's okay for today since it goes with my outfit. I think they're doing the colors to accent the two Edges in the header. It would be nice to see a change of colors again tomorrow.
  15. I had and very cool sounds of silence this morning. DDs 12 and 7, each with their own headphones, each with their own movie, not fighting at all on the 20 minute commute on the way to school. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  16. Kids. You love them, but keeping the leather nice is going to be impossible without a cover. Preferably one I can wash. With the split bench and the center console, I haven't found a seat cover locally. Happy to order one though. Anyone found a good solution?
  17. Okay You're an old goat who secretely wants AWD, knows AWD is not needed 98% of the time, so you're questioning the sanity of the rest of us. It's all good, I can handle your envy :poke: I live in AZ. I go off road. If I want snow, I go to Flagstaff, but in Phoenix? It's not about snow, it's about open space and unpaved roads. When there is a road.
  18. I bought the OEM bumber protector. No issues with durability or scuffing. It should be a standard item. You don't even notice it, but it was a PITA making sure that the bumper didn't get a scratch or scuff before I got it.
  19. Damn straight, they did. :yup: I know who the copy cat is. Guess I know who is buying lunch tomorrow, hmmmm? (not a trick question: the copy cat with the Lincoln buys lunch) They didn't know we had X plan privledges till I told them. And they'd never seen an Edge before. I'd be more flattered if they had offered me Navigation instead! :burnout: Thanks for listening.
  20. Is a one - upping copy cat :sandbox: It only lasted 12 days. I bought a 2007 Creme Brulee SEL+ AWD. I had the only one. Several days of "cool car!" "Whose is it?" A few discussions on the Ford X plan. A few lunches where 5 of us drove in my "new" car. Today? Today there's a 2008 Charcoal MKX AWD, fully loaded. Copy Cat. Just have to learn who.
  21. Wow, a socialite from Galveston or Mobile! Who knew? You'll need a winch with your, uh, new grille. And an appropriately placed cypress.
  22. They're here, but *scratches head*, I don't know how to install them. No instructions. Did yours come with the installation instructions? How did you fish the cables through the seat to the floor? Did you join into the powered seat for the power to the unit? Did you wire it from there into the fuse box? Thanks, appreciate the "come on, silly apprentice" nudges in the right direction.
  23. I was being silly, changing up for something cool and Halloween-y sun that nicely fits in with the "Phoenix" handle in Rocktober. Love Penn (or is that Teller???) telling the watcher to shut the F up. Funny!
  24. Black box, white writing "this is the best avatar ever"? Can do that in Powerpoint. Hang on, I'll do it. Then you have to vote for me ;-)
