  1. I wanted to have a vehicle with more interior spacing/cargo ability. I have three hunting dogs that while in town I want to be able to take on a cruise to the local park, but need something to haul their trailer as well when I need to. Couldn't quite pull that off in my Camry. I wanted to get the most out of my interior space for haulign things and people. I wanted room. I test drove several, read and researched competing products. Once I planted myself in the Ford Edge for a test drive I was struck by the difference in the ride, the comfort, the quiet cabin, modern features, the power of the engine but also quiet operation of the engine, I liked the exterior and interior styling. Didn't jump for joy over the new model sticker price. So I stopped looking when I read so many complaints about the ful economy on top of pricing. Drove and escape. I had been spoiled and it simply felt like I was driving a small truck. Drove the Sorento, but again I had already been spoiled and their latest version had much imrpoved styling but the feel and ride just didn't compare. The Morano, Rogue, Rav 4, CRV, Highlander, 4 Runner, Equinox and so on just didn't either fit my needs, my pocket book or my plan. I kept thinking about the Edge. Found a good deal on a 2010 model Limited. Checked out a few different used models but when I drove up on my cinnamon color sweet heart, it took no time to draw up the papers. My Husband was just as excited because he liked the feel and design as well, not to mention he's depended on Ford his whole life and they have yet to let him down. Although I had a Camry and didn't care one single bit where it was built when I bought it or where the profits went to, I did pay much closer attention to that detail this time around. My first ride was a Ford and I have gone through plenty of makers during the years but now I am the proud owner of this Ford Edge. I get allot of versatility to make up for the 2-4 MPG difference in fuel economy I was getting before. I didn't go with the 2011 so I am missing out on all the awesome bells and wistles of MFT, new styling, hot spot possibilities and adaptive cruise control which has to be just so awesome. But I also don't have the headaches of fresh new automotive software that comes along with the new design. All in all I like the Sync features and I am still learning about them. I like keeping my hands on the wheel and being able to communicate at the same time with clarity to the persons on the other end of the line. Built in America and when it needs fixing past the warranty terms, we can handle it ourselves!!! There were simply so many more pro's than con's that I feel good about the decision. I saved $11k buying a gently used model with 11K miles of warranty left. So fine by me. I like the air bag protection, the leather seats, my new Husky Liner all weather mats, the paint job, my dual AC that cools great. I did hope to get a model with the BAMR but based on the stupid temps we are getting right now, I am fine without it. There were so many advances in the last ten years in automobiles that one thing I love and you might call me crazy .... is my headliner console lights! LOL I've been in a dim funk for ten years without them. I know others have them but now I have seen the light and I dig it. I have ABS which my Cmary didn't have. Just really pleased and glad I took the leap.
  2. Any thoughts on Chevron? What about discounted fuleing location like say Race Trac, Quik Trip and other regional fuel providers? Manual claims to suggest BP fuel but I have not one single BP in my state I don't think.
  3. Oh and the dealers are going to make their money on the front or the back of the deal. They will make it by trade ins, added features to a model that may need a few things you like, mats, tint, etc., using their financing is another way to make points for point on the deal. I say check with another financing source and see what you qualify for on financing before letting them juggle you around with theirs at the dealer. Every contact you have is basically a salesperson at the dealer, the first one who works it, the manager that comes next, the finance guy who works your numbers to see if you want to incude add ons and heck even some of the so called office personnel.... all salesmen. Get the invoice price, find out what rebates are available start working from that point. Don't let them talk to you about your personal life. Seriously, you are not trying to be friends, you are trying to make a deal. I have no trouble telling them I plan to pay cash or use another finance source. Your husband was right. Get a firm cash price. Stick with it. Make your offer and do not say another word until they come back with their counter. They will try to tell you they can't sell it for that, they are already giving you all the rebates and discounts, Your's getting a screaming deal at whatever below invoice and blah blah blah. Make another offer and maybe only go up $100. then be quiet and wait. IF they can't make soemthing move towards a descent cash price, get your keys and your purse and start heading for the door fully prepared to walk out and do more research. They more htan likely have your contact information. Wait a couple days and see if they intend to make the deal for the price you are willing to pay. It may help to have someone go with you but you do the talking. They can just make sure the salesman does start talking to you about personal issues. Your personal life is none of their business and you can get compliments from people you trust, you don't need theirs while trying to make a car deal.
  4. Just a tip, ask the dealer to see the invoice on a new Edge. They have to show it. Work your deal from there. Heck lots of people may not realize it but if you were to look for a used vehicle, and you ask the dealer to see the invoice for what they have in a used vehicle, they have to show it to you on those too. You can be eligible for multiple rebates and have them tacked on for a new purchase. Work your deal for the amount you want to spend. Don't go into it offering info on trade-ins. Don't discuss financing. Just get the deal on a cash price for the car worked out first. If they keep pressing for that infor or what you want your payment to be, get them back tot he cash price offering and stay there till you get your answer. Be prepared to get up and walk out. There is always another deal right around the corner. If they sense for one second you have your heart set on anything, they will work their magic and the new car bug might not work to your advantage.
  5. Ok so I have read a large portion of the posts here and want to say thanks to all of you have that offered up your knowledge. I have learned so much just reading your input. I do have a question though. I do not have machine buffer, orbital anything. I want to polish my edge after a proper wash and clay treatment to rid it of some swirl marks and some water spots embedded into the hood. Is there a polish that I can do this with that I can do by hand? What products do you recommend? I have no experience with a machine buffer and seriously don't want to screw up the paint. I realize that it could be some extensive work by hand too that might require allot of pressure to get anything close to the same results. Would it just be better to take it to a detailer and let them do it?

    2010 Edge FWD Limited
  7. Ok quick question on this. I bought a used 2010 limited FWD without the tow package so I am wanting to add a hitch to haul my dog trailer. The tow package from the factory includes more than just the hitch (i.e. larger radiator, upgraded cooling fans, and such). My question is, will just adding a hitch/receiver add too much wear or load? I really don't know that much about the hitches just yet.
  8. You get to drive on the autobahn? Awesome! Welcome to the group!
  9. Welcome to the forum! I am a newbie also and just purchased a used 2010 model. It's a great vehicle. I just added a K&N filter to mine and the oil and filter was changed just prior to my purchase so I have a little ways to go before the next schedule. Congrats on your new edge!
  10. Welcome to the Edge Nation! I do not have the new 2011 model. Just got a used 2010 w/o the MFT technology but I have been hearing several issues about the system. It's software so it will have a few bugs I imagine. The ride is great though. Search the forum and you may be able to find others who experience the same things and can help you with info on how they are handling the MFT. Congrats on your edge!
  11. I got the rear cargo liner for $60 at a local retailer and they had it in stock. If you check with your local retailers that sell the husky liners or weather tech they may also have it in stock or can order it in. Since the interior is two tone, we had ordered the black to off set all the tan but they misplaced one of the set and couldn't find it, and while they were looking my husband asked if they had the tan in stock and they said they kept plenty of that color so they tried it and he liked it better and that is what we bought. Its stiff material but not too heavy like some rubber type mats. The liner sides/lip provide better liquid containment. The underneath side has those molded pegs like that on a carpet protector for an office area plastic mat you would use under an office chair. The material is thick but lightweight and holds its shape in and out of the vehicle. You can always check autoanything.com too I think they may also sell the husky liners.
  12. I know this is old but I just got a used 2010 edge and had a squeaking driver seat. Seems if you spray a little silicone lubricant on the washer betweent he seat beat base and the connection to the seat, it gets rid of the squeak PDQ. Worked on mine perfectly, save me from a trip to the dealer.
  13. I have three hunting dogs and currently plan to use the husky all weather mat for the cargo area. I got one of tube type block/dividers and it seems to work just fine thus far but with teh seats up, this is hardly the best room to secure three dogs. (two labs and a pointer. So we chose to lower the second row of seats and make sure hte divider is positioned vertically a little further in and that holds well and give enough room for them to lay down on the all weather mat. i will keep another blanket to protect the carpeted backing of the seat. Just wish i knew the best way to protect the plastic sides and rear area of the door from scratches. Haven't hauled them inside yet, but am getting ready. We got our divider at pet smart. Great for getting right away but you can save $$$$ I found out on autoanything or anythingauto site that was mentioned in this post for less. I like the one we have because I can position the tubes to move to the width of any area in the back. I will say it is a good two person job to get the first positioning doen but after that, one person can handle with ease. Once we installed it, we simply lowered the points of the tubing that come in contact with the ceiling and seat backs and turned it and it comes right out of the vehicle for easy storage.
  14. Whoops, guess I should have compressed those pics. Sorry about that.
