  1. This is what happens when you let young college girl interns write automotive ad copy! To be fair, my 6 year-old son mixes up MPH and HP sometimes, too.
  2. What about your trade-in? Shouldn't you negotiate that first and then pull out your plan PIN to get the pricing on the new vehicle? I always fear letting a dealer know that I get Z-Plan before I get an acceptable number on my trade-in. It seems that they would low-ball the trade knowing that I'm buying the new vehicle at Z-Plan price.
  3. Yes, I too was hoping for ice blue. Have to get the MKX for that. And, no, it's not an easy thing to change, unless you like taking the whole dash apart and replacing dozens of LED lights, which I believe may even involve soldering. Some of them are likely so small it would be quite tedious even aside from the dash disassembly.
  4. I've owned and/or driven several vehicles that have done this, including a BMW and a Volvo. I think it has to do with the flow/pressure of the air coming in the back windows causing the headliner to "flutter". It's really annoying, but usually opening up another window a little stops it.
  5. Yikes, 110 in one of these? Are the tires even rated for that speed? I can't see that speed being safe in a vehicle like this, not to mention the awful gas mileage that it would produce! I've done 130 in my G35 Coupe, and that was scary enough! I guess the Autobahn is a road made for such speeds, though, with banked curves and wide lanes and stuff. I've heard the Edge's brakes aren't so hot, though, so it seems to me like it would be a bit nerve racking at such speeds! Nice looking Edge, by the way. Looking at yours actually has me considering the 17" wheels now, if they're even available on the Limited. I hate those gawdy fake chrome ones.
  6. You might see it there again. It might be a sales manager's demo or maybe the dealership owner is driving it or something.
  7. These don't look so good. They don't fit flush with the body panel and the shape is not complimentary to the vehicle. They look like a cheap "tack-on". I've seen some nice-looking fender vents - these are not them!
  8. I tested out Sync in an 08 Edge Limited at my local dealer a week ago. I found the system pretty nice. I called my wife from the Edge and she said that I sounded a little hollow, but perfectly clear and understandable. This was with the vehicle sitting still in the parking lot. I don't know how it would be with the vehicle in motion, but the Edge is pretty quiet, so I don't think it would be a problem. So far as the voice commands, I did find that you need to speak loudly and clearly in order for Sync to respond. I also find that using voice commands can be abit frustrating in that the system is a little slow to respond. The Sync system also speaks back to you slowly, which can be frustrating as well. Overall, I liked the system, but it would be even better if it was a little faster to respond. One thing I forgot to check is if, once you learn Sync's responses, if you can interrupt the Sync voice with your next command. In other words, can you talk over Sync to speed the process along? I'll have to test that out when I go to order my 08 Edge in a couple of weeks.
  9. Still green. It would have been nice if they had used the ice blue that they are using in the Escape and in the Lincolns, but no such luck. This is really something Ford needs to address across their entire line. The old-school green just doesn't cut it anymore. They're slowly getting there with the ice blue in a couple models, but a modern vehicle like the Edge should really have a color that's more fitting, such as blue, amber or red. Even better, implement the feature that's in some of the Mustangs where you can choose your own dash lighting color.
  10. It was an 08 Limited. Sorry, I should have specified that. It was a black 08 Limited with black leather, Audiophile sound, Sync, and 18" chrome wheels. And the chrome on the 18s is not a chrome coating on the wheels. It is a chromed plastic wheel cover that is attached to an aluminum wheel. I'll be ordering mine with the standard wheels and then promptly selling those on eBay and buying a set of real aftermarket chrome-plated aluminum wheels. From what I've seen, I can get a set of chrome wheels from tirerack.com that are much better looking then the OEM wheels for around $1200. I should be able to get a few hundred out of the OEM wheels as most OEM wheels are $300-$400 each through the dealer. If I can get just half that I'll be happy. So for about the same price or maybe a little less than what Ford would charge for their chrome wheel cover option, I can get a set of nicer chrome wheels. Does anybody know if the 08 Limited can be ordered with any wheel styles other than the 18" chrome-clad and the 20" chrome-clad? What about the 18" painted aluminum wheels? Can a Limited be had with those on it? Just curious as I'd like to avoid these OEM chrome-clad wheels altogether if possible.
  11. I tested out an Edge with Sync this past weekend without the Navigation system. Working with the system in terms of setup and interfacing was a bit challenging using the regular audiophile radio display. From the screen shots I've seen of Sync on the navigation system's screen, I think it would be much more satisfying and simple to use with the navigation system.
  12. For those of you who are wondering about the dashboard back-lighting in the 08 Edge, I have been checking out a new 08 at my dealer this past week. The dash backlighting is your standard Ford green, just like last year's Edge. I really wish they'd do away with the green backlighting. It just seems cheap to me. I wish they would put the ice blue backlighting in the Edge like they did in the 08 Escape and like the Lincolns have. That would be much more modern looking and appropriate in the Edge. I drove an Edge at dusk and found it a bit difficult to read the speedometer. I even checked to make sure the backlighting was turned up all the way, and it was. Still hard to read. One thing i forgot to check was whether or not the steering wheel controls are backlit. Does anyone know about this? I'm assuming they are as they are on my 04 Freestar, so it would be a vast oversight if they weren't on a vehicle like the Edge. I'll probably order an 08 Edge Limited this week. The Sync seemed cool, although the dealership staff had no idea what they were doing with it. They fumbled around with it for 5 or 10 minutes and finally I just said "move aside" and had my phone setup and making a call by voice command in a minute or two. The system seems great in concept, but I'm curious to see how it really turns out in execution. I fear that the initial release of Sync will be bug-ridden (it is a Microsoft product after all - look at Vista for goodness sake!), which would turn out to be frustrating. Good thing is that updates to the Sync system software are free and (supposedly) easily obtained and installed. One thing that seems evident with Sync is that it is best paired with the navigation stereo with the touch screen. The nav stereo displays much more information and makes interfacing with the Sync system much easier and more satisfying. I don't really need nav, but I might get it just to have the screen and integration with the Sync system.
  13. Does anyone know if the 20-inch wheels are actually chrome-plated wheels, or are they just chromed plastic wheel covers like the 18-inch chrome wheels are? I'm just curious because the price of the plastic wheel covers on the 18s is $750 and the price of the 20s is $895. Therefore, given that the pricing is similar (a little more for 20s compared to 18s), I'm guessing that the 20s might just be hub caps too! Oh, and I don't know that it's true that most Limiteds will get the 20s. My local dealer just got their first 08 and it has the 18s on it.
  14. I took notice of this when I was at my dealer the other day after reading another comment about it online. I find it incredibly cheap, not to mention misleading, for Ford to advertise this option as they do when, in fact, they are nothing more than chromed plastic hub caps. I mean, this is an option that is billed as "18-inch Premium Chrome Clad Wheels" with a price tag of $750! Really? C'mon. It's this kind of stuff that turns me off to Ford. They market their cars as having impressive features and options, but when you scratch the surface (not difficult considering it's probably a hard-plastic surface), you find that it's half-baked or faux/simulated instead of giving you the real deal for the money. I guess they think they can fool enough people to make it worth it. I mean, an 08 Edge Limited with a few options such as Vista Roof and nav can easily reach into the $36K+ range. For the same money you can buy a 2008 Infiniti G35x AWD sport sedan which offers much more performance, luxury and technology. If it weren't for the fact that I get Ford X-plan pricing, I'd be at the Infiniti dealer right now instead of the Ford dealer (does anyone who doesn't get Ford plan pricing actually buy Fords anymore?). I know I'm comparing a sport sedan to a cross-over (not apples to apples exactly), but my point is that the Infiniti is a much more advanced, high-performance and luxurious vehicle for the same money. If a luxury brand like Infiniti can build the G35x, with much higher quality materials, more advanced AWD system, more powerful and smooth engine, more advanced features inside, better audio system, etc., etc. and sell it for $36K, why can't Ford come up with something a little closer to the mark for that price? I mean, every interior surface in the Edge is shaped out of hard plastic! There's not one soft-touch surface anywhere save for the leather wrapped steering wheel! And if the seating surfaces are actually leather, then why don't I smell leather when I get in the car? Maybe because the smell of new hard plastic is drowning out the leather smell?!! I get into my 2005 G35 Coupe, which is 2.5 years old now, and all I smell is leather. I get in a new Edge with leather seats, all I smell is plastic! And why does only the driver's window have one-touch down and none of the windows have one-touch up? Most other manufacturers, even non-luxury brands, at this point provide one-touch up and down for at least the front windows. I don't expect Ford to measure up to Infiniti or any other luxury brand for that matter. Ford is, and should be, a value brand. All I'm saying is that if you're going to produce a vehicle such as an Edge Limited that prices in the mid-thirties and advertise features such as chrome-clad wheels and leather interior, at least make these items the real deal. If I'm paying $750 for 18" chromed aluminum wheels, I want true 18" chrome-plated wheels. Otherwise, describe the option as chrome plastic hub caps and sell it for the $150 it's worth. And if I'm spending the money for the leather seating option, I want to smell some nice leather when I get in the car. And, at this price, a few soft-touch interior surfaces (maybe the arm rests, for example) would be nice. And design a more impressive-looking stereo face, too, while your at it. These plain-jane, black face, green-LED readout stereos are a joke from the 1980's! Put some style and an LCD readout into it! OK, I've started to go way off-topic. Sorry. I don't know if the new styles of chrome rims they are offering on the 2008 Edge are the same deal or not. I personally find the plastic chrome wheel covers offered on the Edge to be ugly, so I would likely just order the Edge with the standard wheels and hit tirerack.com for some real chrome-plated aluminum wheels in a more attractive style anyway. Then I'd just try to sell the original wheels on eBay or something for a few hundred bucks. The net result should put me in close to the same area as the plastic hub cap option offered by Ford from a cost perspective.
