  1. My Edge has tan cloth seats. The seats have a few dark blemishes. What is the best product and method for removing these stains? Also, the tan leather steering wheel has some stains, what is the best for cleaning this?
  2. Do any available kits not require a line run to the battery? I'm looking at the Curt kit and it looks likes it requires a line run to the battery. http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Ford/Edge/2007/56067.html?vehicleid=20079123
  3. I have an SEL and do not have back up sensors. Could this be what the connection is for?
  4. Does anybody have any experience with a Digital Shop Manual for their 2007-2010 Edge? I’m looking for one that is searchable and includes Diagnostic Trouble Code troubleshooting. I found this one on eBay, has anyone purchased this one or one like it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-EDGE-2006-2007-2008-2009-SERVICE-REPAIR-SHOP-MANUAL-/320870226621?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&vxp=mtr&hash=item4ab55b1abd
  5. I recently installed a 2” tow hitch (thanks wlepse!) on my 2007 Edge. While under there, I noticed a wire bundle leading to the lower center of the inside of the rear plastic bumper. The bundle terminates at an open female connection. Is this for connecting the lighting wiring on a trailer? Are there any other parts (or a kit) necessary to connect trailer lighting? Do Edges equipped with the tow package (mine obviously not) include any other components other than a hitch and wiring such as a trans fluid cooler or engine oil cooler?
  6. NatG do you have anymore info on this "throttle over-hang"? It seems to describe my issue well but I can't find anything else about it on the Internet.
  7. I have an 07 edge which I just recently purchased a locking gas cap for. The stock gas cap is attached to the fuel flap arm with a plastic line and expanding grommet. What is the proper way to push this grommet backwards through the hole in the fuel filler arm? I tried pushing with a screwdriver and pliers (not too hard because I don't want to break anything) but had no luck. Have any of you successfully removed this without damaging it?
  8. My 2007 is only covered by the powertrain warranty because it has 58xxx miles. I'll have to call the dealer and ask if they offer an extended powertrain warranty.
  9. I brought the car to an NTB store and they were able to perform a test in their service which produced a printout (what is this test called?) that stated the battery should be providing 540 cold cranking amps but is only providing 340 cold cranking amps. It looks like you all were correct; it is the battery, not the alternator, phew! Many of battery retailers sell a battery that is rated for 7xx cold cranking amps as opposed to 540 cold cranking amps of the factory battery. This is what I plan to go with. Is there any drawback to purchasing one of these “higher strength” batteries?
  10. I have an 07 edge with 58K miles. I’ve noticed the transmission had been operating slightly abnormal lately. It is beginning to over-rev and slightly shudder lately. For example: 1. When accelerating slowly (rpm peaking at 3,000) I notice that when shifting from 4th to 5th gear at about 40 mph I hear a slight vacuum sucking “whoosh” noise. This noise coincides with a quick rpm over-travel from about 2200 to 2700 after which the transmission shifts into 5th. During this “whoosh” and over-travel there is a drop in power and the vehicle hesitates (no increase in mph with the rising rpm). 2. When accelerating slightly/cruising and the stop light ¼ mile ahead changes to red, I completely slowly take my foot off the accelerator and move it to the brake pedal. When I do this, occasionally the transmission shudders sending a vibration through the car and the rpms fall quickly, feeling almost as if the transmission is “falling” out of gear. 3. When shifting from park to reverse when the vehicle is at a complete stop, such as when beginning to back out of a parking space, the transmission will occasionally exhibit a ½ second delay and “ker-chunk” sound. This sound happens after the shift lever is in the reverse position. The car is never driven hard, receives all routine maintenance, and the engine rarely travels above 3500 rpm. Does anybody have an idea as to what is causing these problems? I have taken it to the Ford dealer twice and they maintain that there are no “codes” shown and they are unable to duplicate these symptoms and therefore cannot perform any repair. The car may soon be used solely by my wife and I don’t want her to be stranded.
  11. Thanks Akiby, what sticks out for you as the major reason it is the battery? For financial and time reasons I was hoping it is the battery. The AutoZone person stated he regularly sees Ford batteries go for 8 years before replacement which seemed suspect to me. He did however say that the alternator is not charging the battery enough and is the reason why it had low voltage which seemed a little more reasonable to me.
  12. I have an 07 edge with 58k miles. About a week ago, for the first time ever, starting was a little rough. It took a few seconds of cranking to get the car started. During this cranking time, the radio lost all power and reset the stations. I did have the lights on for about two minutes before this time before attempting to tart the car which may have an effect on the battery. I stopped by an AutoZone store that night and they connected a device to the battery. The battery voltage was only 11.6 volts. They said they didn't know if the battery needed replacement othe alternator. The battery appears to be original. Flash forward to yesterday night. The car had been sitting in the cold and hasn't been started for two days. I attempt to start the car and it sits there cranking and turning over but will not start. Each attempt feels weaker and weaker and the radio resets again each time. I charged the battery with my neighbors portable starter and the car started fine this morning. Does this sound like the battery or the alternator is going bad? Is there anyway to tell without completely removing the alternator and bringing it to a shop for testing?
  13. What is the lowest class hitch that will safely support a bike rack, or should my search be limited to specifically racks that support a 2" bar? Does anyone have a suggestion for hidden hitch that doesn't require cutting the bumper and doesn't interfere with the exhaust? What provisions should be made to limit the potnetial for rusting where the hitch is mounted to the vehicle frame?
  14. I have a 2007 edge with 4 door speakers. Will replacing the door speakers with mid-quality 2 way speakers have a substantial impact on sound quality? I noticed in paritcular the 4 speaker stock system doesn't have the best highs or deep lows.
  15. Do the HIDs form a solid interface with the existing headlamp on the 2007-2010 edges? I have seen installs on vehicles other than edges which required crudly trimming the stock rubber grommit and the space between the HID bulb and the rubber allowed moisture to enter.
  16. I sent partscheap an email a week ago but didn't get a response. I emailed again and got a response today. Horray! I took out the portions specific to the Edge and attached the pdf here. I'm going to pour through it and see all what is involved. In the attached they use these acronyms: RKE/VSS/RMST I assume: VSS: vehicle security system RMST: Remote start What is RKE? 2007 Ford Edge Remote Start Installation Guide.pdf
  17. I am hoping it is plug and play, but I have read many varying accounts of what is and is not required such as hiding a key in the dashboard, installing a hood pin, installing an antenna on the windshield, drilling a hole in the dash for an led, etc. I am hoping that if i can see the instructions for one of the Ford versions I can learn what is really required and I don't go into the installer completely unprepared.
  18. I emailed parts cheap and they thus far have ignored my request. I haven't purchased the starter kit yet because I want to understand what all is involved. Has anyone else found a posting of these instructions online? I haven't had any luck.
  19. I'm looking to install either the 1 way or 2 way Ford 100 series remote start.
