  1. Are there online guides for installing a remote start system on a 2007 Edge?
  2. Other than the dealer and fordparts.com, where can these be purchased?
  3. This is a very interesting development. Is there a good reason to install both an alarm and a remote start then, or is an alarm unnecessary if you have PATS? Also, I always assumed if you have a panick button on your remote you have an alarm.
  4. CCL123, what do you mean it "totally took off" the Ford's alarm system. Did the aftermarket system require disabling the facory system? Is this with all aftermarket remote starters or only those coupled with alarms?
  5. I'm going to see what the dealer says about installing the remote start and the 2011 key on my 2007 edge.
  6. Thanks wlepse, I'll send them a message. Does installing a remote start require a hood pin switch or running a lot of wires through the firewall?
  7. Thanks Hunter, I wonder if there is any benefit to cleaning the screen and placing it and the paper screen in the slot. I'll give it a try once the paper filter comes in.
  8. What are your best strategies for fighting salt in the winter time on the sides and undercarriage of a car? I recently purchased a 2007 Edge that spent its life thus far in the Chicagoland area (we it will currently reside with me) and it has small bits of surface rust on the frame members on the undercarriage already. What are your thoughts on Rain-X or Aquapel or any other exterior glass rain repellant? Would you recommend any of the Motorcraft products for caring for my Edge? What do you recommend for vacuuming out the car, especially getting little bits out from between the front seats and the center console and under the front seats? Also, I notice that the previous owner may have used a household product such as Windex to clean the inside of the windows and windshield. When it’s foggy on the inside, the streaks are VERY apparent and distracting. What is the best way to remove these streaks and still clean the windows on the inside?
  9. Thanks Crush, this I pretty much gathered. My hope was that possibly Ford simplied things by having one mirror wire harness with additional wires for the defroster regardless of whether or not the vehicle came equiped with it from the factory. Back in college, my old stick shift Civic didn't have a tach but it had the wires for a tach so upgrading to the more deluxe gauge cluster was plug-n-play. I was hoping this to be the case with the Edge mirror wiring harness on my SEL but it unfortuately looks not to be the case.
  10. For those who have installed a remote start system on their edge, how difficult was it? Does it require running wires through the wirewall or installing a hood pop button? I have read in some places taht this is required and in other places it is not. Is the level of involvement related to wether or not your edge has a factory perimeter alarm (do all 2007 edges have this)? For reference, I am considering installing this remote start (if my key fob idea in another topic doesn't work) http://accessories.ford.com/remote-start-bi-directional-100-series.html
  11. Your head must be fat due to knowledge! The code was on a sticker inside the driver footwell fuse box. Thank you!
  12. Thanks Tom, Just to be sure, I motored the side view mirror all the way to the left and right hoping to find wires for the defrost even though my edge doesn't have it. All I could see were two black wires on the inside which I assume are for the motor only. So it looks like those of us without defrost mirrors have no easy way to add them. In general, what is the best place to order parts like this; dealer or online? Are there better places online ( in terms of price, availabllity, shipping, etc.) than fordparts.com? I will be ordering these mirrors, a new cabin filter, among other parts.
  13. I recently purchased a used 2007 Edge. It is about 6000 miles until the 60000 mile service. I decided to check the cabin air filter. The first thing I noticed was the filter was more of a screen than a filter and it had lots of space to move up and down within the slot. As you can see in the second image, there is nearly half an inch of space for it to move vertically. In the first image you can see how easily it slids right out. Is this the correct filter for this vehicle? I imagined it would be more of paper filter element than a screen. In the third image you can see how dirty the filter/screen is. If this is the correct filter, is there anyway to clean this off or should it just be replaced? For the time being, I have removed the filter and will drive without one because it it appears that nearly 90% of it is clogged. Please excuse the large image size.
  14. I recently purchased a used 2007 Ford edge. The body was clean except for a paint scrape on the rear passenger side door that is covered up by the front passenger side door. The cause of this damage may have been due to the prior owner slamming a seat belt in the door. The first picture shows the location of the damage, the second a close up of the damage on the rear passenger side door and the third picture shows the corresponding damage on the inside of the front passenger door. What can I put on this on both of these trouble spots to prevent them from rusting permanently? By permanently I mean something I can put on that only requires one application and will last the life of the vehicle, if posible. The dealer suggested nail polish but that sounds a bit crude to me. Please excuse the size of these images, they will be resized when I get to a different computer.
  15. Thank you AndyMeyer, this is exactly what I was looking for! Is this key standard on 2011+ Ford Edge's without the intelligent key? Does the key have a ford logo on the other side? Do you know what they had to do/add to your car for the remote start? Was it the standard hood pop button, PATS bypass, and wiring? Did they give you a cost? I recently called a local dealer and they quoted me $499 for parts and install of remote start. This seems reasonable, but I imagine this was just for the 100 series single button fob. I'm sure it'll cost more to buy a new key, have it programmed, and cut.
  16. I recently purposed a 2007 Ford Edge. I know that the last two buttons on the keypad can be pushed to lock all the doors which works on the car. There is a 5 digit code on a piece of paper that is glued to the inside of the owner's manual folder which I assume is the code necessary for unlocking the doors. I have entered this code on the keypad and it doesn't do anything. I have followed what the manual starts to turn on the keypad unlocking; push in the key and turn once, enter the factory code, hold the 3/4 button while pressing the 7/8 button twice. After doing this I should hear a click and horn but I do not. Is this the correct process for turning on keypad door unlocking? Because I purchased the car used, could it be that the previous owner had the factory code changed at a dealer? Is there anyway for me to know this without having to visit a dealer?
  17. On my 2007 SEL AWD, if what I gather from this topic is correct, if I do not have puddle lumps on the bottom of my exterior mirrors, then I do not have heated/defrosting mirrors.
  18. I'm looking to install a hitch on my 2007 Edge to support a bike rack. I won't be doing any towing so I don't need any exterior electrical hook-up. Are there any options that I can install which won't involve cutting the bumper? What is the smallest size/class that I can go with if I only need to carry a bike rack?
  19. Is there online store that sells an OEM Ford locking gas cap for my 2007 edge? I didn't find one on: http://accessories.ford.com or http://www.fordparts.com
  20. This is a great topic! How do I know if my 2007 Edge SEL has heated or autodimming mirrors?
  21. I am hoping to find that same functionality but without the seperate fob. I'd like to find something very similar to the standard Ford Edge integrated key (preferarrbly a ford key) that has a remote start button or possibly I can repurpose the trunk release button on this fusion key to act as a remote start button.
  22. Is it possible to purchase a Ford Key purposed for a different Ford (or Lincoln if need be) model that has factory remote start and have it cut for my 2007 Edge? This would be in addition to paying the dealer to install whatever components are necessary to add remote start to my vehicle. Ultimately my goal is to avoid having a separate “fob” on my key ring for the remote starter if I can and also to make it look as factory and feel as factory as possible.
