  1. I can slowly add two more gallons to my '09 after pump cut-off.
  2. Better to have an American car that won't start, than a foreign one that won't stop. I'm very happy that I bought American - an Edge.
  3. Fram has not made a decent oil filter in the last 30 years. I owned an auto parts store for 20 years and have personally cut open many an oil filter. If you compared the guts of a Fram to a Wix you would know what a bad and good oil filter looks like. As I said in my other post - google some videos and see what others have found. Wix makes there own filters right here in the USA and they are very high quality.
  4. Wix - isn't half bad? Wix is great. Don't even consider Fram. Check google for videos on comparisons.
  5. OK - thanks to all your info, I now have DRLs :hyper: I live in a small town, and the service dept at the local dealership honestly did not know that DRLs could be turned on / off on an Edge through the computer. I know them pretty well, and they had to find the info in the service manual. Once they read it, it only took a few minutes to have them enabled. They did not charge for the service. - Thanks
  6. Thanks for clearing that up :yup: Their main service tech was away at school - so I'll stop back by in a day or two and push the issue. The sales managed that custom ordered my Edge also stated that he did not order the DRL option when he configured my vehicle. Thanks again - I'll post what happens next dealer visit.
  7. My dealer may be wrong - but they say that my 2009 Edge Limited (US) did not come with DRLs and there is no way to just turn them on. They also told me that if you have DRLs - it is simple to turn them on / off via the Info and Reset switches on the dash - just like turning the backup alarm on / off. A quick search on the Internets reveals this option: "942 Daytime Running Lights (Fleet) - $45 Day time running lights" So if DRLs are an option listed as 942, and your Edge did not come with that option - then there is no programming fix to give you DRLs.
  8. I think you'll find that most if not all speakers listed as 5x7 - 6x8 are actually 5x7 speakers with mounting plates that will bolt into either the 5x7 or 6x8 locations. You will also find the speakers listed solely as 6x8 are indeed true 6x8 in size and will not fit the 5x7 location because 6x8 is too large to fit into a 5x7 opening.
  9. Thanks - I just didn't see any mod needed from the info here, and the candlepowerinc site didn't show any modification needed. I did get a reply from them. "On any vehicle that originally takes H11, you need to shave a small ridge of plastic off the H9 bulb's connector so that the H11 socket will snap on. This can be achieved with an X-acto knife, Dremel tool, or other suitable tool. Best regards, Candlepower, Inc."
  10. Maybe I've overlooked the post, but I see no mention of modifying the LOW beam to fit - only the tabs for a high beam replacement. A previous post mentions the following comment from Candlepowerinc that leads me to believe no modding is necessary for the low beam. "You can easily and safely replace the H11 low beam bulbs with 2100-lumen H9 items: http://store.candlepower.com/h-9.html"
  11. I ordered some high and low beam replacement for my 2009 Ford Edge Limited. The Narva H9 bulb is supposed to replace the H11 OEM bulb, but the Narva has a top and bottom plastic tab between the metal prongs where the wiring harness connects, and the H11 that I pulled from my Edge does not. My wiring harness will not allow the Narva bulb to plug in. The extra tab on the Narva prevents connection. Anyone else experience this? I've sent an email to candlepowerinc.com - awaiting a reply. (Note: I'm not talking about the High beam bulb where you have to trim the tab on the bulb itself). I've attached two images to show differences.
  12. I did the same with my '09 Limited - let the dealer have the chrome wheels and I took the painted ones. The sticker price difference was $830 (or so). The dealer gave me $500. My trade was made when both vehicles were brand new on the lot.
  13. That is exactly what I have in my '09 Limited. I believe the Kleenex in small plastic bag fits. Something like this
  14. An early first oil change is important in my opinion. Give the engine some break in time and change. I changed at 3,000 miles and starting using Royal Purple 5w20. My second change was 4,000 miles later at 7K - haven't gotten to the third.
  15. I was going to use Royal Purple 5w30, but after posting the question here a few months back, I decided to stay with the 5w20. I emailed Royal Purple and they said 5w20 was fine and they had never heard of an engine failing due to its use.
  16. - I'm just the opposite - I wish mine had the black on the inside just like on the outside ones :-)
  17. ICE Total Interior Spray Available just about anywhere. I was worried about cleaning the black interior of my Edge, especially not wanting any shine to the dash area. I really like this product - leaves a nice clean fresh smell also. I use in on everything interior.
  18. I have them on the front doors of my 2009. Installation was tricky - I followed the instructions, but you really have to flex them to install. There is a 'tab' section towards the back side that is hidden once installed. The 'tab' cracked on the drivers side, and partially broke off on the passenger side. Both sides bend out abut 1/2" at the bottom where it meets the front door pillar. I've tried adjusting them but can't get it doing so. When they were first installed, they did catch the window glass as they were raised, now they just barely do so - that may catch the tint just a bit on yours. The edge windows are a tight fit to begin with, so I can't see any visors not catching the windows just a bit.
  19. From what I see - only comes in four of the nine available 2009 colors (not counting primed)
  20. Today I returned my Royal Purple 5w30 to the parts store and swapped it for RP 5w20. The parts guy said "why in the world do you want to swap 5w30 for 5w20?". I tried to explain about cSt and such, but I could tell that he didn't have a clue.
  21. Grey - Thanks for all the informative input. Where did you find the cSt spec for the Edge engine? Royal Purple is rated at 11 cSt @ 100c for the 5w30, and 8.7 for the 5w20
  22. I emailed Royal Purple and they said either 5w20 or 5w30 would be fine for the Edge - just might not want to tell the dealer if I used 5w30 since it would give them a possible 'out' for any warranty issues that may come up. I called and spoke with the service dept a the Ford dealership and they said they would recommend 5w30 because "we're not in Detroit and it gets really hot down here". I then asked that if I use 5w30 and had some engine issues would that be held against me. He said "No, that would no be a problem". I've known this guy for over thirty years and he would not lie to me about it. As a matter of fact when my 2004 Explorer had to have the transmission repaired at 56,000 miles (warranty ended at 36,000) he had it done at no charge. Again, these are my thoughts and if I lived in a cooler climate, I might possibly stay with 5w20. The reply from Royal Purple also stated: "Ford has been using the 5W20's for over 8 years and I have not heard or seen any additional engine problems - they went to this for added fuel economy."
  23. As you browse the forum, I believe you will find an appreciative love for the Edge.
  24. I wouldn't change immediately, wait until some break-in occurs. I'm approaching 3,000 miles on my Edge and will soon have the Ford dealer make the first oil and filter change. Personally, here is what I'm going to do. Use either Motorcraft or Wix filters (probably stay with Motorcraft since they are really decent filters and OEM), change to Synthetic Royal Purple 5W30 (I know 5W20 is recommended - but the ambient temp gets up to 100 degrees here in south Georgia in the summer). I actually went to the Ford dealer a couple of weeks ago with 2,000 miles on the odometer, and they talked me out of the oil change, said wait at least until 3,000 miles. By the way, if I furnish the oil and filter, they only charge $10 for doing the work.
  25. The Ford web site ford.com will show the differences between the SEL and Limited. Have you considered White Suede as a option for your color? I got one with a black leather interior. I doubt that the dealer will downsize the wheels for you from 20" to 18", but mine came with 18" chrome wheels that I did not like. I wanted the 18" painted wheels the were available on the SEL but not Limited. Since the chrome wheels added 830.00 to the price, my dealer agreed to swap my chrome wheels for the SEL's painted and gave me $500 difference.
