  1. So I got a Z10 a couple of weeks ago, and paired it with my Edge with MFT. Voice-activated dialing works great. Bluetooth music streaming works great. Text messaging, not so much. At first, if I received a text message, I'd get a tone over the speakers, then the MFT display would show a notification, with the sender's name. I could then use the right thumb button to play it. No option to reply though. However, a few days after having the Z10, BB issued a software update. Ever since then, I only get the notification, but can't play the message anymore. I love the Z10, but WP still rules when it comes to text messaging integration with Sync.
  2. Hey guys, can you please indicate the level of support you're seeing with MFT and the Z10 for text messaging? I currently have 2 phones (one personal, one work); a LG Optimus 7 (Windows Phone 7) and a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android). With the Android, I get a notification (on centre-console-screen and audio-chime in the stereo speakers) that a text message has arrived, but doesn't initially show me who it's from. However, I can play the message by pressing the right thumb button (text-to-speech). I can see who it was from by going to the centre screen and looking at the list of text messages. I can only reply by using the list of pre-canned messages in the reply list, by tapping on the centre screen. However, with the Windows Phone, when a text message is received, I get an audio-chime and the Sync lady says "New message from John Smith. Would you like to play or ignore?" I then say 'Play'. It reads me the message, then says "Would you like to reply, call, or cancel?" If I say 'Reply', it then responds "Please speak your message now:". I speak my message, and the speech recognition turns it into text message (speech-to-text), then she reads it back to me, and asks "Is this correct?". I say 'Yes', then she asks "Send now?" I say 'Yes', then the message is sent. I never had to press a button, or look at any screens. Very, very cool. It is all Ford-Sync (or MFT) based and I believe it is enabled via the "MAP" protocol. I will soon be changing phones and am wondering if the Z10 can also do this level of text-message integration? Thanks.
  3. Thanks,I think I may try that. However, yesterday it went through another of its black-screen, then "Scheduled Maintenance" process. Is that the same as a reboot that you would get by pulling fuse 29?
  4. Oh man, we keep all kinds of stuff in there; sunglasses, curly cords, notepad, flashlight, map, etc. The one that got me on my rant was the wheel nut lock for my McGuards; couldn't find it in there initially, but couldn't see in there either. It gets light so late and dark so early this time of year that it seems like it's always dark when I'm in the car. I guess I was just shocked more than anything. The last car I had that didn't have a glovebox light was a 88 Civic, so didn't really realize that any manufacturers were still stuck in the dark ages..... ha ha.
  5. 2011 Edge Sport. I asked my dealer to have a look at the glovebox light - it wasn't turning on when I opened it. After some investigation, he told me that he discovered that these cars do not have a light in the glovebox. What??!! Are you kidding me? The center console has a light. The door map pockets have lights. There are lights on my feet and passenger's feet. The door handles have lights. The outside mirrors have lights. The back seat passengers have lights on thier feet. The bloody cup holders have lights. But where I need it most, the glovebox, there is no light?? Fine place to save 50 cents, Ford. I would gladly trade rear passenger feet lights for a glovebox light. Is it just me, or is this really logical??
  6. Got my 2011 Edge in September and it does the same thing. Planning to report it at my next servicing.
  7. Anybody else having RDS problems? (RDS is the extra stuff broadcast along with the FM signal, such as song name, etc) Mine has two faults: - Really slow info updates. Quite often the RDS song data will take many minutes to update. Sometimes it will just be blank for 20 to 30 minutes. Sometimes the display will retain the old song data, even though several new songs have played and gone. Once I didn't even get any RDS for several days, then it just started working again. At first I thought it might be a problem at the radio station (ie: not broadcasting the data), but when we compared my wife's Nissan beside my Edge, the Nissan had almost immediate RDS updates constantly, without fail. The Edge wouldn't even display it for a while, then showed old info. - Second problem is with the station type shown on the large display vs the small display (near the speedo). When listening to a classic rock station, the words "Classic Rock" appear on the large display, but the small display shows "Education". On another station, the RDS shows "Adult Hits" on the large display, but the small display shows "Cultural". The small display never gets it right. Dealer says he can't do anything about it (as usual).
  8. Last week my dealer changed the Sync module and loaded the latest software onto it. Wow - way worse than before. Anyway, one of the new problems I am experiencing is the delay you are mentioning. The first time I use voice commands after start up there is a lengthy delay of silence after I say the command. Usually it'll be 30 seconds to a minute, but once I timed it at 12 minutes. That's a long time for your system to be frozen and silent.
  9. Mine used to skip fairly often, but I think it stopped after the latest sw update. With all the other problems, I kind of forgot about this one, until seeing this post. I'll have to keep an ear open for it.
  10. I used to get my album artwork from my USB stick - not all, but about 70% - but it hasn't worked since the dealership updated the system software a few weeks ago.
  11. Same here in Calgary. I bought a new 2011 in September, and the nav doesn't show "new" roads that have already been in service for 3 years now.
  12. I often use my 16 GB USB stick to play music. The computer periodically says "incompatible USB device", but it plays anyway. Sometimes, it would even show the album art, but not since my last software upgrade. Last week, it got stuck on "building media commands" for about a week, even though the music seemed to play ok. A couple of days ago, that message went away, and now it shows the song info again. But still no album art.
  13. Strange! I have only one button that doesn't work on my steering wheel, and that is the 'hangup' button. So when I want to end a call, I either have to use the 4-way button and the small screen, or the 'end' button on the large screen, depending on the mood that the computer's in. Despite that, it sounds like I'm getting off easy!
  14. Hi, I noticed mine were playing out of sequence too. Really annoying for those albums that are meant to be played in a specific order, like Pink Floyd or some Beatles albums. After watching it for a while, I've discovered that it is playing the songs in alphabetical order, rather than numerical order. It is one of the many problems I reported to my Ford dealer, but, as usual, there's nothing they can do about it.
