  1. 107k on 2007 SEL AWD. Replaced stab links in front with Moog Parts - worked fine. Put car on a 1,200 mile road trip and am noticing the knocking in the front is getting louder - only at higher speeds such as 35-40mph and higher when I hit raised bumps in the road. Inspected LCA and ball joints appear tight. Tried to pry on them and lift and noticed no play/movement. I now am nearly certain it's the strut bearings. Had a Firestone I use change the oil and they agreed. As an aside, the local Firestone's in my area have a semi synthetic oil change deal going on right now - $15.99 for 5 quarts and a filter! WOW! Anyway, the noise is not all of the time, but it's becoming more frequent. Doubt it's a safety issue, so it may wait until this fall when I put the snow tires on. We average 800 miles/month on it, so it won't accumulate that many additional miles in the next 4-5 months. I know "MACBWT" had videos on the rear, but I can't find it now. Help? How about for the front? I plan to buy the parts online. I'm thinking just the strut (no need for the dust covers, etc., right?) and the strut bearing/top mount. Anything else I should be sure to buy for the front? Same question for the rear. Thanks in advance! Shumax
  2. Thanks. Power steering - just a turkey baster and remove fluid and replace until it runs clear?
  3. 2007 SEL AWD. Other than engine oil & coolant - they are done. What about the tranny and the diff? Power steering and brake fluid? Thoughts? Thanks!!
  4. Back from the trip and it never came back on. Perhaps we scared it away?!
  5. Tire pressure was set to 36PSI on all four last evening before we left. Will check again later, but doubt it changed that much. Condition is intermittent, which tells me something is "on its way out." Thanks, all!
  6. In the car now on our summer road trip. Get an hour away from home and the TMPS warning comes on. It sounds and then flashes the light on the dash. Eventually it goes solid and then it went away. An hour, or so, later it came back and went through the same cycle. Tire pressure is fine and I see nothing wrong with any of the tires. I suspect a sensor on its way out. How can I determine which one? Thanks, Shumax
  7. Oh no! The stealership?! Ugh. Can I buy a key on eBay and have them program/cut it?
  8. I need to replace a missing key fob for our 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD. The only key we have is the one with the fob on it. No blank key and we misplaced the other key fob/key. So, I only have one key fob/key. I poked around on this site called "Google" and it appears I may have to go to the stealership since I don't have a second key fob/key. Any thoughts/input? How much am I looking at? Thanks, Shumax
  9. I installed the MOOG stab links on the front today. Took about 2.5 hours (from the time I pulled the first tool, to the time I put the last away), with a trip to Lowe's for a sawzall Note that I have air tools. Honestly, one should just assume they will need to be cut off. If you don't have air tools and/or a sawzall, I honestly would just pay someone to do it. It could turn into a nightmare of a job without these items. I could back the nut off just enough to get the sawzall blade in there, but that was it. I had a hard time finding space to get the sawzall in, so I had to use my cut off tool with my compressor. That made even quicker work of the old bolts. Once off, it's really plug n play. The MOOG parts are much more substantial than the OEM parts, plus they have grease fittings. They are also a few dollars less expensive than OEM. I drove it and noticed much less noise than before, so it clearly helped. Of course, as I came back into the drive, I think I heard a pop in the front end. I suspect it's the strut bearing. As mentioned above, at 107k, it's time to get those out of there, I know. I'm not messing with it until my wife starts to complain about the noise. Shumax
  10. This is the exact part I bought Monday. They look much more substantial than the OEM version. I plan to instal them Friday. Thanks for sharing the video!
  11. Wow! That looks like a LOT of work and you have the lift, tools and resources. I have air tools, but no lift and no way to extract bolts if they break. GULP! Thanks for sharing, but that appears to be one I'd suck up and pay the stealership for!
  12. Thanks for the replies. I actually ordered Moog replacement sway bar links. They have a grease fitting, which I like. This is what I replaced the tie rod ends with about 20k ago, too. I crawled under there yesterday and the bolts turned easy enough with the "key" holding it in place. So, it shouldn't be terrible to replace those. If the noise remains, I will likely take it to a Ford Dealership to let them tell me what it is and then replace it myself if it's the struts and strut bearings. Probably pass on the ball joint as I am not familiar with how to replace those - any good how to's? Thanks again, Shumax
  13. Has anyone replaced the FRONT sway bar bushings? They look like a REAL bear to remove. Also, how about the stab links? I get a clunk out of our SEL AWD with 107k on it when we go over raised bumps in the road from the front end. Not when turning, just when going under 35mph and I hit a RAISED bump. I looked at the front sway bar bushings and one looks a bit cracked; the other seems fine. The stab links don't appear to have play in them, but they were "loaded," too. Doubt it to be the struts as they are no leaking and it does NOT do it when I turn. Could be the strut bearings, but thought I would hear that more when I turn. Thoughts? Any how-to's out there? Thanks, Shumax
  14. I have done struts before but not on this vehicle. Have any pages from an FSM you can share? Thanks!
  15. All: Thanks for the suggestions. I can tell you what is outlined above in the TSB is not what I am experiencing. It sounds like a metal on metal knocking inside a wooden box. I can just barely "feel" it, too. I sware that I can also feel some "grinding" when I turn the wheel to the left. That makes my brain think it's the strut bearing for that symptom alone. I did check everything and it seemed tight, but we just moved and all of my tools are still packed. I may just take it to the dealer I have used on my Company vehicle and have them look at it. From there, if it's something like the struts, I may try and replace them myself. If anyone else has another suggestion, I am all ears - thanks! Shumax
  16. 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD with 104k. Driven by my wife, always=gentle driving. Noticed tonight that there is a light knocking noise when slowing and turning left. I climbed under the car and grabbed the stab links and noticed no movement. I replaced the tie rods about 20k ago and they appeared solid - no movement. I took a rubber mallet and tapped on the same parts and noticed no movement/play. I poked around on the forum here and suspect someone will tell me it's the strut and strut bearing. If so, is there a video around that shows how to replace these parts? I may attempt the repair myself. Thanks, Shumax
  17. 17x7.5 rims with a +38m offset. 5x114.5 (5x4.5). Tires are 215/55/17. Would be used on a 2007 Edge SEL AWD. These would be snow tires/rims for the winter. I think they appear a bit skinny and too low profile, but I'm not sure - you want them skinnier in the winter, I know. Thanks very much! Shumax
  18. I tried the silicone trick and need to see if it worked. It's more of a pop noise than anything. That tells me something is flexing and then snapping past it's normal point of rest. Odd.
  19. 82,000 miles at this point on a 2007 AWD. The car pops, creaks and knocks going over uneven surfaces. What's odd? It's not in the suspension. It's in the area around the piller between the driver and rear passenger (where the seatbelt is located for the driver) and then up by the sunroof above the head of the passenger in the rear - right behind the driver. It sounds like something is shifting around and then there is a pop sound. I can't locate anything that is loose, but I also haven't pulled the molding off, either. Anyone have any ideas? The dealer charged us $50 to tell us they think it's the stab links. The noise VERY clearly eminates from the TOP of the car, not the bottom in the suspension. Not happy to be charged $50 to tell us basically nothing. Thanks, Shumax
  20. Woops! I typed that incorrectly. Mine is on the DRIVERS side, too! I've listened very carefully and it sounds like it's coming from the window area on the drivers side rear seat. It almost sounds like it is coming from up at the area where the sunroof is at - in the rear corner. Regardless, it's very annoying and reminds me of a car with 300,000 miles on it. I owned a Ford 500 that had the same issue and I never did determine what it was. Got rid of it for a lot of reasons. If you tear it apart, let me know what you are able to find - thanks!
  21. The vehicle is a 2008 SEL with about 70k on it. When going over uneven surfaces - like bumps, potholes, turning into driveways, etc. there is a very noticeable knock/popping that comes from the pillar on the passengers side b/t the front and rear seat. It may actually be coming from the area back by the rear passengers seat. It's coming from middle of the car and up - not down low like a suspension noise. It's annoying and almost sounds like something is lose. Any thoughts? It's out of warranty, so taking it to the dealer is sort of a last resort. Thanks! SHUMAX
