Michael, Two years wasn't much. I have a set on a Mazda pick up I installed when I bought it new 8 years ago and they still look good as new. No scratches, chips or or anything. They are the in-channel ones though. I got them at an Autozone off the rack. They had them instock I guess for the F150 which the B4000 is a clone of.

My wife bought a 2008 Edge Limited in December. She has two complaints with it so far: first, because of her height and the placement of the driver's mirror she has a tough time seeing out the left front when turning but that is prmarily her issue because she is short; and, her second and biggest complaint is with the A/C. She constantly fusses about being unable to adjust the vents to get good airflow on herself. She is the sole driver 90% of the time. We live in central Kentucky and in the summers the temp averages in the mid to upper 90's with plenty of humidity. We've never had an issue with cool down, air volume or temperature in general. The few times I have been in it with outside temps in the upper 90's I set the temp on 70 degrees and remained plenty comfortable. We have four other vehicles including a large Infiniti SUV and her Edge cools just as quick. Her problem though is she likes cool air blowing on her personally and she can't adjust the vent to the right of the steering wheel to blow the way she likes. It doesn't have enough horizontal movement she says. Closing other vents puts out more volume at that vent but the flow still isn't directed on her. She has also complained that there should be someway to close off the rear vents. She sees it as a waste putting cool air into the rear compartment when she is the only passenger. I think part of her problem is with she drives the Infiniti SUV it has a wider range of vent motion, rear controls, more insulation, etc. and she is used to that. It cost more than twice as much as her Edge though so I would expect something for the extra $35k. Being a bit taller than her, I don't have the vent complaint though. I can get air directed on my face or chest. All in all, I see no issue with the A/C volume, cool down or anything other than it would be a bit better to have better vent placement or movement.

Larry, Do you recall how long it may have taken to get your order from Weathertech? I ordered these things on June 27, received an email reply that day my order had been received and a month later I still haven't received them. Seems a bit long. We ordered the all weather floormats with my wife's Edge just to protect the carpet and carpet mats but these look like they will provide a lot more protection. My wife is the only driver of her Edge 98% of the time though. I do like the cargo mat. She has a Limited model with the carpeted cargo area and keeps plastic in it all the time when she is hauling plants or potting soil or something similar.

Thanks. Took a look at the Weathertech website link you provided and they have the best instructions of any site I have looked at. They also specifically talk about how to deal with the automatic safety feature on the window so they hopefully have designed these to work with the Edge. I've ordered a set. Some posts talk about the OEM Ford ones that glue on pulling off the paint. I've had a couple vehicles with the OEM glue on ones and never had that problem. My daughter's Escape had Ford glue on guards and we took them off after about two years and had no paint issues. We have an Infiniti SUV with factory glue on ones and no paint issues. The problem I have with the glue on ones is they do seem to eventually come loose and you have to reglue them at some point though. Not a big issue but the in-channel ones do seem to avoid that.

My wife's 2008 Edge came with the complimentary 6-month subscription that ended this month. She didn't want to renew it. Didn't think it was worth the money to pay $150 a year to listnen to the radio. In town there are too many local stations playing the music she likes and when she goes on an extended trip she plays her CD's or MP3 and listens to the exact music she wants to hear. I was surprised that there was as much chatter on "commercial free" satellite radio as well. I hear more promos and DJ talk on some of the Sirius stations as I do on local radio. In the end it boils down to a cost/benefit for her and she simply didn't think the benefit was worth the cost. My son and daughter both have satellite radios in their cars and both insist that I keep their subscriptions up for them though. Different demographic.

I'd like to get a set of side window deflectors (vent guards) for my wife's 2008 Edge. I prefer the ones that mount in the window channel. I've used these on several of my vehicles in the past and have had both the outside glue/tape mounted ones and the in-channel ones. I prefer the ones mounted in the window channel. In reading through some of the posts I've seen some that say they installed them and they work great but no brand mentioned. There is one post that says the Lund brand is a problem in that they are not beveled and when the window closes it strikes the shade and the window automatically reverses. I've seen other posts that mention installing the Lund brand but no mention of a problem. Has anyone installed a set of in-channel mounted window vents that worked fine with no problems and if so what brand did you buy? I'd like to get a prooven product that someone has installed and knows first hand they work with no problems.

When my wife got her Edge I told her to never take it to an automatic car wash with the rotating brushes or cloths. I took one look at that low sloping antenna and could see a brush bending it or breaking it right off. Well, she generally handwashes her cars anyway but has been going to a brushless place this winter. Then last week a coworker who also has a 2008 Edge told her to never go through an auto car wash. He had run through an automatic car wash with the spinning cloth strips. As it was going over the top it apparently bent the mount on the antenna or moved the antenna enough to bend the roof. The antenna was not sealing well to the roof. In any event, a couple weeks later he noticed a stain on the headliner by the moonroof controls. Aparently water started leaking in around the bottom of the antenna when it rained and leaked in. He's now arguing with the dealer on repairs. The problem wasn't caused by a factory defect but rather something he did.

I know this doesn't help you, but I have a Blackberry 8700C (AT&T service) that paired up perfectly with my wife's new 2008 Edge and works fine.

Whenever I buy a vehicle or any big purchase for that matter I annalyze all the options and go with the most financially advantageous option. I've used banks, credit unions, dealer financing, took rebates, took the low APR's, paid cash or whatever was the best option. I have a finance background and education so I can do the analysis on my own but if your not comfortable there are several websites that allow you to compare finance options. I can't name any off the top but if you do a search you'll find them. Many of the home finance software programs like Quicken or Money will do the same. Most of these allow you to compare two or more options with varying APR's, varying amounts paid down, rebates, etc.

The owner's manual has quite a bit of cautionary verbage on off-roading. It pretty much states the Edge isn't built for off-roading and specifically states it is not and does not perform like a 4WD and should not be used for off-roading. I would bet they would want to deny any warranty repairs if they believed the damage was due to off-road driving. Some of the comments talk about the AWD system being prone to overheating and damage if you get into exessive wheel spin. I haven't had a chance to read up on the power distribution system but I would think it is fluid driven like an auto transmission instead of gear driven like an old fashioned transfer case and a lot of continued power transfer under rough conditions could be hard on it. I won't be climbing any mountains with my wife's Edge.

I know this was beat to death but thought I would add a couple cents worth of opinion. My daughter bought an Infiniti G35 Coupe last year and loved the car. Only trouble is its a RWD car with plenty of horsepower. She got it in the Fall and we had a couple light snows soon after and she couldn't go anywhere. She was scared to death driving it. After having this car one year she traded it this year. She bought a Saab 9/3 because it was FWD and she really liked the way it handled and drove. Considering the resale value of a Saab I didn't think it was a good idea but its her decision. I guess where I am going is she lost some $$ and got rid of a car she really liked because she lacked confidence in being able to get around in it. My wife recently bought an '08 Edge and we didn't even discuss whether to go with AWD or FWD, it was a no brainer we were going with AWD. She wanted the confidence to know if she needed the extra traction it was there. I've been driving for 40 years and have owned all sorts of vehicles. AWD gets better traction than FWD on snow or wet roads. I've owned at least one 4WD vehicle for at least the last 20 years and during that time I've pulled dozens of stuck FWD and RWD cars out of the snow. I've yet to pull out an AWD or 4WD vehicle though. My wife's last SUV had a selectable AWD or 4WD system. She used the automatic AWD often in rainy weather. I drove it several times in hard rain in RWD mode and it slipped and hydrplaned. Switched it to the AWD mode and it stuck to the road like glue.

My wife has had her 2008 Edge AWD Ltd. for right at one month and her only complaint is the comfort of the seats. She has two issues, first the head rest sets too far forward (which has been discussed in a previous thread). I don't have an issue with it myself. Her second complaint has to do with the contour of the seat back which she says doesn't give her the lower back/lumbar support she would like. However, she was messing around one day and rolled up a towell and placed it behind her back and was perfectly happy. She replaced the towell with a small pillow and she says that took care of her lack of lumbar support and helped the head rest issue. She complains very little now about the comfort. Part of the issue with her I think is she went from an Infiniti SUV which had extremely comfortable seats with 10-way adjustments and lumbar support to the Edge and the Edge is a bit limited on adjustments.

My wife has a 2008 AWD Edge Ltd. with about 1,500 miles on it. She recently did about 300 miles of driving with an average speed of about 35 mph (mostly stop and go city-type driving) and averaged 19.5 mpg. This was based on the fill-up calculation and not the mpg indicator on the car which also showed 19.5 mpg. She currently communtes about 20 miles one way to work each day on a two-lane "country" road with an average speed of about 45 mph counting the city/highway driving and is averaging right at 20 mpg. We've not taken any long highway trips so I don't know what the mpg would be for extended highway driving but it seems she is getting about 20 mpg regardless of the type of driving.

We ordered my wife's Edge with the towing package but chances are we will never ever tow with it. We have a pick-up and another SUV and both have 2 or 3X the towing capacity. I wanted the oil cooler, heavy duty radiator, etc. though. Speaking of form over function. Our last two SUV's had roof rails. They came standard on one and we ordered them on the other. Never put a thing on either roof the whole time we had them but we liked the looks and they were there if we needed them. Same goes for the tow hooks on the front of my pick-up, the off road shield package on one SUV and other oddities I've had on my vehicles before. They may not have necessarily served a function but they looked nice and were there if I needed them. As for the brush bar, I like the looks. I probably won't put one on our Edge because its my wife's and she wouldn't want it but if it was mine I might. As for form, we have a lot of deer in our area and I can see where it could provide a bit of protection if you hit one front on and might save a scratch or two in the parking lots from stray grocery carts and careless drivers.

April, Hope you got it programmed. Wanted to let you know when my wife got her 2008 Edge a few weeks ago I could not get it programmed to our garage door opener. We eventually took it back to the dealer. He performed some sort of repair and it programmed fine after that. Now the dealer said there was a fuse blown but that doesn't make sense. Nothing else in the car was not working and the fuse diagram shows the Homelink on a circuit with the interior/vanity lights and they worked fine so he obviously did something else but gave us the quick answer that a fuse was blown. Another thing you might do is delete any codes that could be accidentally stored before you try programming. The owner's manual explains how to do this. You basically hold the two outer buttons down until the Homelink light flashes.

My wife took delivery of her '08 Edge Limited yesterday. Last night I was trying to set the Homelink and couldn't. It appears there is no power to the Homelink unit in the visor. The manual states to push one of the buttons and the Homelink indicator light will blink. I see no light anywhere. I presume it is in the center of the little house icon near the center button in the visor. Is it somewhere else? Anyone else have any problems similar to this? I've tried it with the engine on, off, key on ACC, etc. to no avail. Also, neither vanity light works on the visors. It states when you open the vanity the light comes on. Neither does with the engine on, off, key in ACC, etc. I suspect the two are related. Perhaps a power feed supplies both these and is pinched, unhooked, etc. I haven't checked fuses yet but I don't see any other electrical problems and would doubt a couple .5 amp lights are fused separately, otherwise I would think some other system would be out. Any help or suggestions? I'll get it to the dealer next week but if it was something simple I would take care of it versus the hassle of having to drop it off.

She had a Datsun (yes, Datsun) 280Z years ago in the early '80's that had black leather and T-tops and it was painfully hot in the summer. We had to keep towels on the seats all the time because it was so hot and you would sweat profusely just sitting in the seats. Ever since she has refused to go with black leather. Today's interiors are so much better though. Older cars had more metal in the interiors that added to the heat, window tinting wasn't as good, etc. so now I don't think the color as nearly the impact on temperature...but I can't convince her. I would have preferred her edge with black leather but she wouldn't go for it.

My wife ordered a red Edge with every option except the red insert seats. It wasn't so much the red as it was she didn't want black leather interior. She's had a couple past cars with black leather and she felt it made the interior too warm in the summer. She ordered hers with the light stone interior instead. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you like the red leather inserts go for it.

I was at a Lincoln dealershp recently and he allowed me to read a brochure he had received detailing the changes on the 2009 MKX. I'm trying to recall some of the changes I remember reading. First, the design looked pretty similar to the '08 and I believe the engine and transmission were the same. There were a couple new colors but no real design changes. Some of the new options included heated rear seats as standard, HID adaptive headlights, a new fuel filler system that it stated was "capless". As I understood it, there is no fuel filler door. A backup camera is included and I believe it stated 11-way power seats are standard. The option packages were pretty much the same I believe. The most intriguing additon though was a "wander sensor" as an option. It stated it is a camera is installed near the wheels on each side that track the raised reflectors in the center of the road. If the car wanders near or across the center line the vehicle automatically corrects itself and steers back to the proper lane. My first thought after reading this was you'll now be able to drive drunk now. All in all, the wander sensor and fuel door free filling were new and there were some predictable options available with not much change to the design or mechanicals of the vehicle.

I'm brand new to this site and I know this isn't the way to endear yourself to the members of a forum but it seems we have far too many wannabe comedians or folks who just want to hear themselves type using this forum. My wife just purchased an Edge and I happened upon this forum while doing research prior to buying it. This forum is a great source of information and really helped me make some decisions on some issues. However, it can be very irritating sometimes trying to follow a conversation on an issue because of the number of folks who add no value to a conversation whatsoever but feel they must make a smug, supposedly funny, condescending, plain stupid or other nonvalue added comment to the topic. My wife chose to buy a red Edge. When searching this forum I happened on the thread about more problems with the red color than other colors. Doesn't seem sensible there would be more mechanical problems but I could certainly understand if they meant paint or finish problems. In reading the thread some folks tried to post legitimate responses, helpful information and tried to do what I thought the forum was for - sharing information. Others mucked up the thread with their trivial, immature comments. I thought that was what the Lounge section was for? I'm not agains a bit of levity and humor but some folks don't know when to stop (and just aren't funny to boot). Well, enough said. I'm sure my ears will be burning shortly.

My wife should take delivery of her red, 2008 Edge Limited this week or next. She wanted one with every available option except the premium interior with the two-tone seats with the red inserts. Our local dealer located one at a dealer just a few miles away which is due to arrive there this week. This is the first American made vehicle we have even looked at in years. She currently has an Infiniti SUV and she was wanting something smaller and sportier. We looked at the new Infiniti SUV, the Accura RSX, BMW, Land Rover and Lexus but kept coming back to the Edge. It didn't have all the options some of these vehicles had but it had enough of the amenities we are used to that we just couldn't justify another $10k for for one of these other SUV's (or $6k for the MKX) just for a back-up camera or heated rear seats Besides, my wife is crazy about the panoramic roof and loves the looks of the Edge. I believe Ford has hit a homerun with this one. I was able to afford the pricier SUV but the Edge looks so good and is so well equipped we just kept comparing everything else to it and it kept coming out on top.
