  1. Traction control prevents wheel slippage, transferring power around or reducing power or braking as needed when slip/spin is detected. Exactly what you DON'T want when stuck in the snow.

     

    From the 2011 OM:

     

    Traction control system (TCS)
    Traction control is a driver aid feature that helps your vehicle maintain traction of the wheels, typically when driving on slippery and/or hilly road surfaces, by detecting and controlling wheel spin.
    Excessive wheel spin is controlled in two ways, which may work separately or in tandem; engine traction control and brake traction control. Engine traction control works to limit drive-wheel spin by momentarily reducing engine power. Brake traction control works to limit wheel spin by momentarily applying the brakes to the wheel that is slipping. Traction control is most active at low speeds.
    During traction control events, the stability control light in the instrument cluster will flash.
    If the traction control system is activated excessively in a short period of time, the braking portion of the system may become temporarily disabled to allow the brakes to cool down. In this situation, traction control will use only engine power reduction or transfer to help control the wheels from over-spinning. When the brakes have cooled down, the system will regain all features. Anti-lock braking, RSC, and ESC are not affected by this condition and will continue to function during the cool-down period.
    The engine traction control and brake traction control system may be deactivated in certain situations. See the Switching off AdvanceTrac with RSC section below.

     

    Switching off AdvanceTrac with RSC
    If the vehicle is stuck in snow, mud or sand, and seems to lose engine power, switching off certain features of the AdvanceTrac with RSC system may be beneficial because the wheels are allowed to spin. This will restore full engine power and will enhance momentum through the obstacle.
    To switch off the AdvanceTrac with RSC system, select traction control off in the message center. Full features of the AdvanceTrac with RSC system can be restored by selecting traction control on, or by turning off and restarting the engine.
    If you switch off the AdvanceTrac with RSC system, the stability control off light will illuminate steadily. Selecting traction control on will turn off the stability control light. In R (Reverse), ABS and the engine traction control and brake traction control features will continue to function. However, ESC and RSC are disabled.

  2. I assume the low side/high side pressures were checked each time work was done on the A/C system? Sounds like the condenser was cleaned (the part in front of the radiator)? Also check if your cabin air filter is blocked. Does water drip from underneath the Edge when you run the A/C?

     

    How many miles do you have on your Edge? As Jared pointed out, the fans have been known to fail. Usually a replacement from Dorman works pretty well in these cases. May need to make sure the electrical connections are tight on the new units tho. Do you have the "standard" Edge or the one with the towing package installed?

  3. I guess I just don't have a "modern" mindset :) I like to mod things whenever/wherever I can, try to extract the most potential out of the vehicle without sacrificing reliability/longevity. Things like strut tower braces, sway bars, lowering springs, PCM tunes, catbacks/CAI systems/downpipes all seem like natural candidates. There are more mods available for the Gen I-II SHO (far fewer numbers sold) than for the Edge!

  4. Welcome to the forum! That clicking sounds like either a halfshaft/CV joint or a hub. Is the sound louder in any one particular direction as you turn the steering wheel left or right, or take a left turn or right turn? Do you hear it when the Edge is stopped/idling? When was the last oil/filter change, and do you know what was used as replacement? At least should be Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W20 oil and Motorcraft FL500s oil filter.

    It is normal for the fuel injectors to tick on a regular basis, just wanted to rule that out right away.

  5. I am currently using this device, the VGate, that plugs into the OBD port under the dash. Once the key is switched to RUN, it is available to your iDevice to hook up to wirelessly (it will be listed as VLINK) and automatically (no configuration). It polls at an average of 55ms, which is way better than the 125ms I was getting with this PWow adapter. Reliability to be determined.

     

    You'd then start the Forscan Lite software and hit CONNECT to let the software talk to the OBD adapter. Once connected, click on TABLE, and select the PIDs you are interested in (there's a gear-type icon top right). Scroll down the list till you see the ETCxxx PIDs, select each one. Then click on the checkmark icon in the top right corner to finalize your selections. Click on the checkmark icon again to get back to the TABLE listing. You will see the PIDs with no values.

     

    Click on the PLAY icon (bottom left) to start recording. Then the values will be populated on the screen. Hit the STOP icon to stop the recording. Click on the SAVE icon (diskette) to EMail the recording as a CSV to your EMail. Once you connect to a real wireless network, these EMails will be actually sent out.

     

    This is all from memory, so I hope I got the sequence 100% right :) You can scan for error codes and other fun stuff too. If you want to view the streaming data as graph, select the GRAPH option instead of TABLE from the main screen.

  6. Is the vibration through the steering wheel, or floorboards, or ...?

     

    I assume the tire/wheel combos were roadforce balanced and an alignment was subsequently done? Were the brake pads/rotors checked while the wheels were off? Same for steering/suspension components like tie rods, control arms, etc.

  7. If you want, you can run Forscan Lite on iPad/iPhone ($5 I believe), and that will allow you to see the throttle commanded vs actual throttle (via datalogging), among many other fun & interesting things. If you have a Windows phone or tablet, you can run the regular Forscan software.
