  1. The omniscience of akirby on all-things-Ford causes me to reluctantly mention this online article that describes the preservation of Sync function by using the iDatalink Maestro and appropriate accessory cables when installing certain aftermarket radios.

These videos show the complexity of such installations, but hey -- if you have a Ford & enough money & patience & money & time & money -- you can achieve almost anything.

    Did I mention money?

  2. The voice prompts your Pioneer 6-CD radio is offering about Sync Vehicle Health Reports are not due to Ford servers contacting your vehicle, but rather are the result of the Automatic Reminder setup for Vehicle Health Reports in your 2009 Edge's Sync system.

If you refer to page 36 of the 2009 Sync Supplemental Guide (direct PDF download link), you will find the entry sequence for turning off those Automatic Reminders.

That Supplemental Guide covers all functions of your Sync system and should enable you to utilize Sync to the fullest using a Bluetooth-capable cell phone or other USB-connected media device.

The Sync Terms and Conditions web site page includes privacy-related descriptions of data that may be collected through your cell phone connection when using Sync Services.

Other owner references for your 2009 Edge are available via this Ford website page link.

  3. Brake booster finally failed at 89,800 miles on our 2012 MKX with qualifying 9/8/2011 build date.

Brake pedal became progressively spongy over a couple of weeks, then vacuum boost effect was lost and hissing noise was evident through firewall when brake pedal fully to floor and very high-effort brake operation.

Dealer replaced brake booster under the 13N02 extended warranty coverage at no cost to us.

  4. Spilled gas on upward facing fabric of folded-down second row seat. Tried repeatedly covering spill area with baking soda and left it in place for a week each time, followed by vacuuming, which diminished gasoline odor, but didn't remove it.

Read online about coffee grounds.  Substituted ground coffee for baking soda, allowing successive applications to sit for a week before vacuuming.  Totally removed gasoline odor!

Definitely worth the cost of the 12-oz. bag of coffee and the vehicle's robust coffee aroma while it's working over a couple of weeks.

  5. Recently, at 86k miles, replaced 2013 MKX's OE Michelins with Goodyear Assurance WeatherReadys, which improved steering & stability with a touch firmer ride and a touch more tread noise.

Best price for me was at Sam's Club, for which there are cost-offsetting Membership deals$15 per tire installation, and $176 per tire cost before an $80-off-four-tires promotional discount available through the end of 2019.

The 18-inch WeatherReadys must be special ordered in, but arrived quickly, installation was prompt, personnel were efficient & knowledgeable.

  6. I'll answer the converse of this question.

I selected my 2012 MKX because factory trailer tow was offered with its standard 3.7 powertrain, whereas factory trailer tow was not available on the Edge Sport, the only Edge model offering the 3.7 powertrain.

    Good luck!

  7. My 2012 MKX has a build date of 8/9/2011 and dealer-activated DRLs.

With the engine running, the front turn signal bulb filaments light up when the transmission is in any position other than Park, and the fog light indicator on Instrument panel does not light up.

DRLs remain on when Headlight Switch is in parking light position.

Without headlights turned on, turn signal operates with front turn signal bulb filament blinking off-on-off-on.

With headlights turned on, parking light filament lights up and turn signal operates with front turn signal filament blinking on-off-on-off.

Keep spare front turn signal bulbs on hand because the mostly always-on turn signal filament fails more often than in non-DRL usage. A failed front filament induces a quick-flash turn signal cadence on the rear & side view mirror turn signals when driving.

Fortunately, my having long arms helps when making the blind reach into the peeled-back wheel well splash shield to replace a failed bulb.

I verified this after one dealer told me they'd have to remove the fender to replace the bulb. Apparently, all their technicians' arms were too short to remove & replace the bulb socket through the wheel well, so I went home and replaced the bulb myself.

    Good luck!

  8. Like you, I had the turn signal filament DRLs activated on my 2012 MKX.

With the plethora of white DRLs on the road, I've always hoped the amber color might be more noticeable.

You may want to keep spare bulbs on hand, since the bulbs will burn out more quickly, due to their full time DRL duty.

If you choose, you can become proficient at the blind, one-handed, in-up-to-your-elbow, through the loosened inner fender liner, socket removal & bulb replacement procedure.

You may notice the socket body becoming scorched by the ongoing use of the turn signal filament, but I've had no melting occur that affected the socket itself.

You may also notice that your DRLs remain functional when your parking lights are activated, but the bulbs return to standard operation when your HID headlights are turned on.

    Good luck!

  9. You may want to determine if either of the below-attached Technical Service Bulletins were considered by the dealer when the initial liftgate repair was attempted.

TSB 12-3-9 Liftgate Bounceback - Reprogram Liftgate Module.pdf

TSB 12-3-3 Rear Liftgate Intermitent Reopening.pdf

Shortly after I purchased my new 2012 MKX, it exhibited the same liftgate behavior shown in your YouTube video.

My local dealer performed the reprogramming procedure on the Liftgate Module, and it permanently corrected the liftgate re-opening problem.

    Good luck!

  10. I've had all the complimentary oil changes & tire rotations on my 2012 MKX performed through Quick Lane operations at Ford dealerships, based on reminders from the vehicle's Oil-Life Monitor.

Make sure you remind the Ford Quick Lane attendant about your MKX's complimentary maintenance entitlement.

Your MKX's VIN will be entered into Ford's OASIS information system to verify its complimentary maintenance eligibility.

Your 2013 MKX should be entitled to eight complimentary maintenance visits over four-years/50,000 miles, which are broadly described in the attached Lincoln document and here. Lincoln complimentary maintenance is also mentioned in the attached 2013 MKX brochure on the right side of Page 3.

    Good luck!
