Very hard choice Edgieguy between the white platinum, kodiak brown and ruby red. All beautiful colors and if I had them all side by side I may have gone with the white or red but decided to go with the kodiak without even seen one

That is very good info EdgeGermany, thanks BTW my son works in Europe, he has an Alfa Romeo GT V6 and belongs to an Alfa Romeo racing club but he said that he doesn't know about the Edge. Since you are in Germany and you have an Edge, did you buy it in Germany or you import it from US? Just wonder if the Edge is available in Europe

Thanks Gimp for the info. Did not want to be too technical but I was just curious what the (R+M)/2 means. Your explanation is enough

Hey RJG, thanks for the insight: I'm also a reiree and thinking about the same lines but I'm not a F shareholder LOL, dont trust the company and although they did much better in 2008 than the other BIG 2, I find the automotive industry too risky. I was looking the other day on the NBR on PBS and I think they were reporting the auto sales for October or November; the import sales were up 26-30% and the big 3 were up only 6%. Yes a good increase but a far cry from the imports. Its really upsetting to see these numbers and thinking that the big 3 started the automotive industry but now they are always behind the imports and will never understand why they cant change Anyway the only reason I will look into leasing is because my dealer does not have an Edge Ltd in my color and so I find it easier to lease since at the end of the lease I can return the car if I dont like it.

The lease quote I have is for 36 months at 0.00% interest and monthly payments of CAD$682.04 tax included (residual CAD$20,792) The purchase quote is for 60 months at 0.00% interest rate and monthly payments of CAD$807.66 The above include a Ford credit of CAD$1,750 From the above it looks like that the lease is more attractive financially but at the end of the lease I must fork out $20K to own the vehicle which is ok with me assuming that I like the vehicle. If not then I lost my 36 months payments. I was just asking to see if there is a disadvantage on leasing but since you are planning doing the same I will really now consider this option

I was planning to place an order in January to purchase a 2013 Edge LMD in Kodiac brown metallic with light stone or white platinum metallic with Sienna seats but since my dealer does not have any vehicles in my colors, I'm thinking now to lease. Never leased a vehicle before, preferred rather to purchase, and I don’t really know the pros / cons of leasing vs purchasing. The idea is since I can't see the vehicle before I purchase might as well lease it and at the end of the lease if I like it then I pay the buyback price and its mine but if I don’t like it then just return it or trade in for another color. Do you think the above is a good financial idea or its going to cost me much more to own the car if I decide to keep it?

I was reading in the 2013 Edge operators manual that says " for recommended fuel to use Regular unleaded with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87" Just curious, what is (R+M)/2 ?

Thank you all for the info. You are right Mark; I now remember that my dealer said something like bring a car from another dealer which I have to purchase after and told him that doesn’t sound good to me. So bottom line is its going to be a hard choice to make to order a car that I have not seen before and trust to luck that I will like it. In my town I haven't seen many Edges and the ones I have seen are silver, grey or black and all have black interior. The closest big town is about 100 miles away and I plan to ask my dealer now to see if any dealer over there has my colors and if yes I don’t mind to take a drive over there and have a look. akirby the ruby red was in my list at the beginning but now I have drop it like I did the ginger ale, it’s a matter of taste, that’s all. It’s a good idea Road Dog the paint shop. Remember years ago when I went for a repaint job the guy had a big book like an album and each page was a glossy sample of various colors. I will give it a try Perhaps in January the dealers here may bring some new Edge and hopefully one with my color. If not, it will be a very tough decision to make and perhaps don’t even purchase one.

I plan to place an order for a 2013 EcoBoost Edge Ltd in either white platinum metallic tri-coat with the Sienna seating or Kodiac brown metallic with the light stone seats. Problem is that both local dealers in my area don’t have either of the above colors in stock neither have any other Ford car with these colors. All their Edge cars have black interiors and the exterior is all colors but the ones I prefer How do you decide which color you prefer to invest $40K+ without seen the actual vehicles? Is the dealer obliged to search inventory and bring a vehicle from another province (state)?

Hey Benawhile I'm with you on all weather tires, I always had them until a couple of years ago when they pass the law and made winter tires compulsory up here from Dec-15 to March15 (hefty ticket if they get you without them). And we get pretty nasty and long winters up here. So in my case it will be convenient to ride on winter tires and switch to "plastic" in the summer. As for the keypad yes it's convenient but hate the looks of it (outdated and cheep looking). Perhaps I can remove it, get the hole plugged and re paint the door LOL Thanks akirby for the info, it will be a temptation to trade my 2013 Edge when the new one comes with the keypad on b pillar (don’t have my 2013 yet but I will place an order in January)
-
Has anyone purchased the repair / maintenance manual for a 2012 or 2013 Edge? Is the dealer or eBay the best place? I see on eBay they sell 2 volumes manual for $145 + shipping
-
Dont know if in Colorado winter tires are required by law but in Quebec they are. So I plan to use the stock wheels which come with 4 season tires in the summer and buy a new set of mags with the snow tires for the winter. Perhaps you may consider the same as an alternative. It is a PITA when it comes to choose the various options on a new vehicle because there is always something you dont like in a package. I dont like the stock wheels either but since people buy them I'm willing to try them and perhaps I may like them, plastic cladding or not. On my side I hate the entry keypad on the drivers door but since I like the "Driver Entry package" which includes this bloody keypad I will have to compromise. I noticed in the showroom the 2013 Explorer and this keypad is installed on the window frame just above the door handle and its almost invisible and very neat. I wonder why Ford did not installed this keypad on the Edge in the same place as the Explorer

Thanks Tacyon for the info

Thanks akirby, somehow dont loke the sound of plastic plated on wheels especially here up north with all the salt on the roads etc. This however is not enough to change my mind about my Edge, but its kind of disappointing After the holidays I will have a closer look at those wheels
-
Wait a minute, perhaps I'm missing something here You mean the 18" or 20" wheels which Ford says are "Chrome-Clad Aluminum" are plastic? I thought they were aluminum mags and chrome plated Aluminum Am I wrong?

Gimp that's excellent news and thanks for the insight. I also liked a lot the EcoBoost when I took her out for a test drive and although right now I haven't decided between the EB or 3.5 I'm sure in the end I will get the EB Much appreciate your info

LOL............ok I give up

I don’t want to sound picky but design mistake or not I find the windshield washer on top of the hood a NO NO. Besides that they are ugly I read in another thread on this forum that they are also cracking due to the heat from the engine. Their place should be like most of the cars under the hood and by the windshield. Another nice to have item is a hood latch you can open from inside the cabin. What's the point of all the perimeter security when anyone can open the hood and mesh with your engine?

Good to know, thanks

Hey bce, thanks for the info. Look at the "Buying, Leasing & Ordering" section of this forum, My thread "Issues Before Purchasing Edge", post #11 by Haz, he provided a link for the 2013 Edge Source book. In there on page 37 it states EcoBoost can operate on 87 octane regular fuel but premium fuel is recommended. I would love to get the EcoBoost engine because on my test drive I found her a beautiful engine but if I have to use premium fuel it defeats the purpose of economy since premium fuel is always more expensive than regular fuel. Also as I said, my experience with my present Passat 1.8L turbo is that regular fuel provides a noticable lower engine performance and therefore I always use premium fuel. In addition, I will suspect if you always use regular fuel on a turbo engine you may also experience more maintenance cost

Thank you guys for the info, looks good

I read in a manual that SYNC is a service which requires a $60 annual subscription after the 3 years / 60 sessions which Ford provides for free on new vehicles. Although this amount is not a big deal, I refuse to accept any annual or monthly subscriptions except for my basic needs. My question is if I don’t buy the SYNC subscription after the first 3 years, what will happen to the 4.2" displays in the instrument cluster and the 8" LCD in the center stack? Would I have ugly blank screens or just I will only loose some functions?
-
Your SEL sound good and thanks for your time. Most likely I will go with the 3.5 because I dont like paying for premium gas
-
Planning to order early next year a 2013 EcoBoost Ltd but reading this wonderful forum I see that the mileage varies a lot; in addition, although Ford states that regular fuel can operate the EcoBoost, premium fuel is recommended. In the last 10 years I drive a VW Passat GLS with 1.8L gas turbo and VW also states the same fuels as Ford. I have noticed the 1.8 engine does not run as good when I fill up with regular fuel neither I get as good mileage and so I have always used premium fuel. So I'm now thinking to go with the 3.5L V6 which has a published mileage close to EcoBoost but since the 3.5L run on regular gas which cost about 15% less than the premium, cost wise I will be ahead with the 3.5L engine My concerns with any engine is reliability and economy, no interest on power What is your experience with the 3.5L engine? Is she a good engine?

Thank you Haz, that is a beautiful reading
