  2. One more question... Has anybody ever heard of/used the Surtrack brand? Those are $45 a piece vs. the next brand up which are $64. Every dollar counts for me right now. I put both in the cart to see, and the Surtrack brand is nearly $20 cheaper on shipping as well, and will be here (estimated) 3 days sooner. Gonna go with those, if all else fails, ill send them back and go for the more expensive one.
  3. Ok that's what I had originally thought, and for some reason I thought the PTU was on the drivers side.
  4. Ok that makes sense now. So the left/right description is if you were standing at the hood of the vehicle looking at it? (left=passenger, right=driver?)
  5. Found both ring gears for the wheel speed sensors are cracked and spin on their own; and it appears that they are built onto the CV axle. I saw a video where a guy replaced them on an Escape but the rings were $40 something a piece, and needed a torch and whatnot to put them on. The whole CV Axle/half shaft is about $50 on RockAuto, so im just gonna replace it. My question though, is for the rears it shows "Rear Left AWD" "Rear Right AWD etc" but for the fronts my options are: "Front Left" "Front Right AWD" "Front Right FWD" Whats the dealio, does it matter if I select the AWD one or not since its on the front? Does anyone know what spline the male/female gears should be and how many teeth on the ring gear? Ill just order it that way since each one has a pic and description.
  6. Looking online it seems as if they are part of the half shaft? Can I just replace the ring? Where can I order them? Also - is there anything I can do to make this drive-able? (Like disable the ABS/Trac Control?) How about the AWD system? Seems to drive OK when the wrench is on.
  7. So both of the speed sensor gears are cracked and freely move. Not "easily" but they move
  8. Some of you may have saw my previous thread about my traction contro light, ABS light, and wrench light coming on. I dont know if this is related, but I havent solved that issue. Someone pointed me to a wheel speed sensor, which I am going to look into, but it hasnt left me unable to drive. Until today. On the highway, passing a set of cars and was going about 75-80 to get around them, along with numerous cars right behind me doing the same, and I lose power. Traction control light comes on, Edge is losing speed and will not accelerate or even maintain the speed. I finally am able to coast off the closest exit, I hit the brake and it felt like there was a brick behind the pedal. I put it in park, revved it and the engine was fine. No hesitation. Lights were all off on the cluster. I go to take off, give it some gas and go, then this terrible grinding noise starts under my feet, and I cant accelerate. Let off the gas pedal and was able to speed up enough to pull into a Kroger, and park it. Let it sit for probably 20 minutes, I turned the wheel all the way so I could attempt to see if there was anything obvious wrong with the wheel speed sensors, which I couldnt. I started driving home, slowly obviously and all seemed to be ok. I was driving slower than a grandma though with my flashers on. Made it the rest of the 25 miles or so, cruising at about 55 with a few stoplights in between. Heard the grinding just once or twice during the whole time seemed to happen when I would be coasting down a hill and start to accelerate. This whole time, only the traction control light was on, because I turned it off, in hopes of it helping me limp home. The brakes felt bad again once, but eventually the 3 lights came on again, and then it seemed to be "normal" to drive. No issues accelerating though I did NOT try to get on it at all, but the brakes were fine as well. I am at a loss here, can this stupid "bad" sensor be causing this? I do NOT have the money right now to be dropping into this car, and even better - its my only car. I work 6 days a week out of state to top things off. I will be getting down under it tomorrow and checking things out, and hopefully replacing said sensor if I can find out on my own which one is bad. My biggest concern is the grinding. I should also add, that it shifts into ALL gears and OD perfectly smooth, no weird feelings from the trans. Could this be that %@&$^%#*&^%$%$#$ PTU?
  9. No I have not yet. I got home and needed some time away from that damn car to just chill out. I will go out in a minute and pull it up to my garage and see what I cant figure out. That "gear" looking thing though definitely could spin on its own though. I could see that causing an issue if thats how the Edge is checking if the wheel is slipping. Any dirt or anything seems like it could easily prevent it from spinning with the wheel. (Which would in-turn trigger the system to go haywire)
  10. I see that ring that spins with the wheel, is that supposed to spin on its own? When I was stopped, I was looking at it and was able to turn it by hand. Is that normal?
  11. When it happens, whether traction is on or off, I lose power. I limped home, but the brakes were like bricks, and there's a terrible grinding sound randomly under my feet while accelerating.
  12. Could this cause complete havoc? I of course have had no drive ability issues, but on my way back home from work just now, I lose power for a second, traction control light comes on, then regain power. About 1/4 mile down the road, lose power again and it doesn't come back. Light is also on again. I had to basically coast to the nearest exit after almost causing an accident from the sudden loss of power, I get to the exit and hit the brake and the brake pedal felt like there was a brick behind it. Put it in park, revved it and all seemed to be well again. I take off, and keep loosing power. Could barely accelerate to 20 mph to pull in the nearest gas station. I'm currently stranded 30 miles from home. This is wonderful. The area is heavily populated with a large amount of high speed traffic so I don't even want to attempt to limp it home.
  13. Next few warm days we get, I would like to do a little maintenance on my Edge. Possibly trans fluid, but definitely coolant, would like to change the TPU fluid, and then what im thinking is a wheel speed sensor. Nobody has replied to my other thread about that yet though so it may be something else. Anywho, I would like to check out the level of my TPU fluid, and change it. Is this possible? It seems as if it is, BUT I have been scouring the forums, and nobody really seems to go into any detail about if it is or not, and how. Saw a trillion posts about taking them to the dealer and having the whole unit replaced and such, but I just want to change my fluid. Over 100k on it now, cant hurt to get some fresh life in there. Also - can someone tell me about the "drain puking" I read about on the TPU? I have a very slight drip on my driveway once in a blue moon and im thinking that could be the issue. All my other fluids are full.
  14. Bear with me here, gonna include any possible detail I can. Never had this issue before. 2009 Ford Edge Limited AWD (Just over 100k) I was driving through our local state park after a good snow, so I naturally had to do a couple drifts in the huge parking lot. No issues here. It warmed up slightly with the sun, and the next morning going to work, some of the snow melted and sat on the wheel and formed into ice. Made a pretty bad vibration from throwing the wheel balance off. It was probably -20 with the windchill, along with being on a stretch of highway that was under construction, so there was really no shoulder on either side. Had about 8-10 miles like this, driving at 60-65. Kicked the ice off before I left work, and all was well. I believe this was the next day, if not the day after that, driving home with the cruise control set at about 74, my traction control light started flashing, and I lost power (Traction control doing what it does when the wheels are spinning). I was on dry pavement. Finally after about 1/4 of a mile, engine power came back, but the traction control light, ABS and a wrench light was on. Everything was functioning to my knowledge normally though. After a few miles, the traction and ABS light turned off. Wrench stayed on until I shut the car off and started it back up. Fast forward a few days, traction control did the same thing, but just for a split second on the highway again. Didn't trigger the other lights. Driving home same day, all 3 lights came on (But the traction control didn't flash and kill the engine power). This has happened 3 or 4 times now on the highway, the 3 lights come on. What could cause this? Could it be something as simple as uneven tire pressure? I do have aftermarket 20" rims, but havent had this issue. Pretty sure the previous owner put these rims and tires on early in the Edge's life. *Edit* Also found out the hard way, when this wrench light is on, the Edge does NOT have AWD. Was coming around a corner in my neighborhood with ice under the snow, turned and kept going straight. Luckily it was just snow and an open lot, but could have been nasty!
  15. I havent posted in a few days - the heat has been fine. Then I get to the carwash the other day, had the defrost on to keep the windows warm since it was like 10 degrees, and started to smell a burning oil smell. Not outside the car, only inside with the heat on. Thats when I finally remembered to check all my fluids, everything looks/smells perfect. Nothing low, nothing mixed, etc. I have only gotten that "funky" smell from the heat once or twice since, but its definitely a musty smell. What could cause that? I haven't emptied out my glovebox to get to check filter.
  16. I haven't been down there to check (It's about 0 degrees outside and 25+ MPH winds!) but I was curious if we are able to adjust our fog lights? Specifically up from the stock position. I always use them, but would like a little more from them, they have a great beam output, even and smooth but they barely go far enough to see when I'm in the drivers seat. I recently installed an HID kit and I'm always weary about "what if" they don't turn on one day, or go out while driving, the fog lights would be my only source of light. (Doubt that would ever happen, I've never had an issue with my DDM kits but this one did come with a bad wire harness so it made me nervous at the time.) Thanks I'm advance! Any suggestions for higher output bulbs besides HID? What bulb do they take?
  17. I'm not able to check at the moment BUT on my way to work this morning...no smell. On my way home...no smell. I also stopped for gas and food still no smell! I'll definitely check when I get back though. Meant to this morning but I woke up late.
  18. Im honestly trying to think of what to describe it as, or compare it to and my mind is blank. Its not musty, or electrical or exhausty. I recently changed my cabin filter so ill double check that when I go out there, but I dont think its that. It doesnt smell like something that would be smelling from the filter, more of MAYBE like a sweet kind of smell.
  19. Driving to work this morning and had the heater set on defrost and floor as usual, and on low. I started smelling an odd smell, the heat was blowing out hot and hard as normal still but has a funky smell to it now. I turned it off and then back on a few miles later and the smell wasn't there, but on my way home it's back. It's on all settings (defrost, vent, floor) I haven't tried the AC or anything besides heat (it's like 20 degrees outside!) What could this be? I don't smell anything with it off, and there are no odd smells outside of the car.
  20. Thanks autom8r, I posted that while at work, and on my way home I turned the heat on through the vents as I normally would (Not on dual zone), and everything was perfectly fine. Hopefully it was just a one time occurance, but I did notice that the left vent on the radio bezel didnt blow as hard as the right vent on the bezel, is this normal? That right one was blowing out alot more, would be nice to have that from all the vents, dont see why it would be different.
  21. My Edge has dual climate control, though I never use it. This morning, it was probably 40 outside and foggy, so I started my car and turned the defrost/floor (at 90 deg) on after a few mins. Noticed where the car starts normally getting warm/hot inside it wasn't. Clicked it over to the vents, and noticed the air was lukewarm at best. I feel the passenger side and they're smoking hot like normal. I check both temp settings and they are at 90, not on auto. Stayed like this the whole ride to work, I turned it down to 60 and AC and then back to 90 and it was the same thing. Come to think of it, I don't recall the air coming out on the drivers side cooling down either when I set it down to 60 and AC. What could cause this?
  22. I have a 2009 Ford Edge, got my oil changed today, and at 109k miles, noticed the coolant was pretty dirty. They pointed it out at the shop, and had the little tester, it was nasty dark green. I can do coolant flushes/changes myself, so I opted out of them doing it. I get online, and find out that the Edge is supposed to have the Ford Gold coolant. I finally found that Napa has it, so im heading out to get some as soon as I get an answer. How many gallons do I need? (Don't wanna buy too much, wallet is a little dry right now!) And where is the petcock located to drain the radiator? Im gonna drain it, refill it with distilled water, and run the car with the heat on, and drain it as im putting more water in to hopefully get 99% of the green stuff out, and refill with the gold. Any suggestions on my procedure that I should change/add? Thanks! 2009 w/ AWD
  23. I've still not found a harness. There's 10+ on baby site I look at. Just want my steering wheel controls which I know is a separate module, but need the radio harness. Not worried about keeping sync or the inputs in the console. Would like to keep the stock sub til I decide what I'm doing with it.
