Hi All,
i recently downloaded the Gen1-3.1 Sync update for my 2010 Ford Edge. I've put the update file on a USB thumb drive and I'm ready to update my system. Unfortunately, non of the methods I've found to actually initiate the update seem applicable to my very basic non-navigation equipped SYNC system. Simply inserting the USB drive into the USB port has no effect!
How do i get SYNC to start an update from the USB drive on my system?
Thanks,
John
Hi John,
Like akirby mentioned, the thumb drive must be formatted as FAT32. Also keep in mind that the update will not work if the USB has U3 encryption or is password protected. Let me know which type of computer you're using if you need assistance formatting the USB to FAT32.
Once you've verified that the USB is set up correctly, follow these instructions to download the update: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/download-software-updates-sync

Hi everyone,
I just want to clarify that version 2.1.4 is not the same as version 2.1. Some updates can me installed by yourself and some cannot; upgrades will have to be done by dealers since there are features being added.

Agreed! Check to make sure RDS is on. When you're on the Entertainment screen and listening to AM or FM, press OPTIONS, then ON next to RDS Text Display. Let us know how it goes!

Hi, everyone!
I’ll be out of the office tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving. I’ll be back Friday morning to catch up on PMs and check on threads. Have a happy holiday with your family and friends!

Hi techmerlin,
Congrats on your new-to-you Edge!
Since 2.1 is considered an upgrade, it has to be performed by your dealership.

Hi Dominatron2212,
How are you trying to listen to your music, and which system does your roomie have?
Rebecca -
Hi egde1217,
Since this is the only station that it's happening to, I suggest reporting it to the HD Radio folks. Here's a link:

Hi Chris92,
I agree with Waldo about going to your dealer for this. They will be able to diagnose the cause and correct it. Let me know how it goes!
Rebecca -
Nope! There's no limit on the amount of music or the size of the device you're using.

Hi Dominatron2212,
If they are all showing as MP3s, I suggest starting from scratch to see if that helps. Maybe something happened to the last 100 songs when you were transferring them onto your SD card?
Rebecca -
LOL! I don't have any either; I'm perfect in every way. However, asking anyone I know to verify that, is 100% out of the question.
Rebecca -
I can try to help with personal problems, but my kids usually don't like my advice, so you may not either. LOL
For real though, I'm glad your navigation is fully functional now! Where are you going for your first road trip?
Rebecca -
In case you didn't see it, I responded to your PM. Let me know how it goes!

I saw this thread because I have an Edge on order, maybe another 3 weeks before it arrives. Also, just bought a 2013 Fusion and I have a navigation question. Rebecca you seem to be a Go-To person for nav issues, so maybe you could take a shot at this one: i just posted this on the Fusion Forum, the title is "IS A WINDOW STICKER EVER WRONG - NAVIGATION". Here is that post:
We just entered the Ford universe with a 2013 Fusion SE for my wife. Bought it at a good local dealer. It was a Ford "reacquired" vehicle with only about 11,000 miles on it. Reacquired due to multiple oil leaks, but Ford finally replaced the motor, and that was good enough for me, so now my wife has it & is enjoying it. It is really nice, very comfy & well equipped.
Now here's the weirdest thing: The original window sticker http://services.ford...A6P0HR8DR198718 indicates that it has the $795 Navigation option. However the car does NOT have navigation. The MyTouch screen upper right tab says "Information" instead of "Navigation", and the dealer says that it just doesn't have navigation.
So, is a window sticker ever wrong? Is it possible that the navigation just needs to be activated somehow?
Hi jeffcarl,
Welcome to the forum, and congrats!
When you spoke to your dealership, did you talk to the service manager? Almost everything I see shows that you have navigation, but the software is showing the non-nav version. If you haven't spoken to either the sales manager or service manager yet, I suggest doing that first. If you already have, I can open a case with the regional manager for your area and have them work with you and your dealer to get this figured out; I'll need you to privately (via private message) verify your full name, phone number, and mileage.

Hi roadkill401,
Waldo and cv27 are correct; you have to change the language to French before the system will recognize it. In case you need them, here are the steps to change the language:
Gears > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > LANGUAGE > Choose ENGLISH, FRENCH, or SPANISHGive it a try.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the quick replies. I checked the above link which does not show navi, however I'm hoping against hope that I can somehow get the navi working. I've kind of broke the bank getting the edge and need to be cautious about spending more money. What are the odds of buying the A5 card and it working? Also whats the difference with the A3 and A4 cards that I've seen talked about in other discussions, is there a specific card I need to work with my current version of the software? I am hesitant in updating my software incase the navi potential disappears. Please let me know your thoughts.
Hi ssscott,
Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new-to-you Edge!
I agree with akirby on this one; it doesn't sound like you have navigation. If you'd like, I can take a look in my system to see if you do, just private message me your VIN.

Something weird happened today. I received the Black Screen for the first time (2011 Ford Edge Sport). I pulled the fuse multiple times (the main fuse that delivers power to fuse 29). The radio worked for about a minute each time, but then turned off. However, the screen never came on. It was always stayed on the black screen. Any ideas what this might be?
Hi Manny2525,
Please make an appointment with your dealership so they can diagnose and correct this. Let me know how it goes!
....I should have my Edge back monday or tuesday if it simply just works.
Let me know how your system is working when you get it back, Tacyon.

Hey everyone,
You can still use the old link to order maps and report missing or incorrect streets and POIs:
www.navigation.com
The link goes to HERE (formerly known as NAVTEQ).

You're welcome! I just responded to your PM, but I want to post here as well (in case anyone else has this issue). Due to the restrictions some companies place on the work phones, it can cause this issue. The lock they install disables the phone from "talking" to SYNC and the other way around.
Rebecca -
Hi Egdend,
Since version 2 is an upgrade that adds features, it has to be performed by a dealership.
Rebecca -
I can check your software if you'd like, f150bft. Just shoot your VIN over in a private message. Also, is the auto lock an app that her company installed, or is it the phone lock you can get to in the settings of her phone?

Hi Shadrack,
Please contact your dealer for this. They'll need to diagnose and correct this concern. I don't recommend recalibrating the screen yourself.Rebecca

Hi mersheil,
I just commented on the other thread you posted on, but just in case you miss it, please contact your dealership. They'll be able to diagnose and correct this for you.

Please contact your dealership about this. They will be able to diagnose and correct it.
