  1. Hey Lex, you may already know this but here goes,,,, the tuner will be vin locked to the last vehicle tuned until that vehicle is returned to stock. It stores your stock tune before it loads any of the custom/canned tunes so you can always return to stock in about 2 minutes should you have an issue needing dealer service. I have always kept my tunes loaded during dealer services since there is no recalls on the vehicle that would require a PCM reflash and also have friends at our local dealer and they would not flash over my tunes. I even keep it in for emission inspections. But.. if that ever happened, an SCT dealer could unlock it and get you going again, for a small fee of course ! Comments in general here, I have purchased various intakes for my trucks and $300 is about average here for a quality intake they are marketing. The open filter element will produce the most gains, they just get full of dirt faster if you use the vehicle for offroading and kick up a lot of dirt/dust. I have also had 3 of the trucks tuned as well as the Edge and $400 seems to be the average if you need the flash device and they come with 3 tunes of your choice. Tunes are about $75-$100 each on averag, are emailed to you, and are easily loaded in one of the available memory slots on the flash device with the free download software from sctflash. Dyno time with A/F measured from the O2 sensor, average 125/hr. Comments for Steeda, since this is a $700 investment, how about more technical info on the gains, a link to the dyno chart for RWHP and TQ and A/F ratios before and after your product would be a great seller as well as promoting a package deal. Advertising the intake separately is fine for a very few who would go to a custom tuner and have them build the tune for that intake but this would NOT be the majority here. I would never do a web purchase here without speaking to one of your tech guys first unless you made this a package deal since the tuners I have used do not have AWD dyno capability.
  2. Great news ! You need the custom tunes with it. I need to call and see if they can email me a 93 octane tune designed for the intake.. Also, not much info on their web site, pretty poor job compared with a site like Troyer Performance, the tuner page has info not even related to the tuner.. They should have a specific package deal for this since there is a dependency here, or maybe I am missing something.
  3. a little more info in the passenger side airbag light, it is tied to a weight limit, my two younger kids that are less than 100 lbs cause the air bag off light to illuminate. The oldest is >100 lbs and no light.
  4. Here is what I got from Steeda on 12/11/08 : The tunes are not finalized yet at this point. We are delaying them for a while we concentrate on other aspects of the Edge program. Stephen Kish Steeda Sales Phone: 954-960-0774 ext 108 Fax: 954-960-1449 what could be more important than MORE POWER !
  5. I emailed them just a week ago and got a reply along the lines of they are 'concentrating on other Edge products at this time'. I can cut and paste later, since I cannot access home email account from work but it did not leave me with a feeling that it would be ready any time soon. Wish they would because I would buy an emailed 93 octane performance tune and the intake and load it over one of my 87 tunes from Evolution, since there is such a noticable performance boost with the 93 tune I will never go back to running the 87 tune. The tune and throttle response, combined with the 6 speed trans on these, keeps the little Edge nicely in the power band throughout WOT, one can only imagine adding an intake to the mix here.. For anyone who cares to read on, I do have some years of experience with tuner/intakes on the 04-08 F150's and have had 3 of my trucks on a dyno at Troyer performance ( the 06 has done about 10 pulls ). The MAF does NOT just automatically adjust the air/fuel ratio, meaning it ups the fuel to account for the increased air volume from the intake. This needs to be done through correct tuning. A reputable tuner will usually have a MAF transfer function programmed for a particular intake that establishes an acceptable level of baseline performance that he has built through many dyno pulls on a test vehicle. You will run the risk of running lean by just installing an intake without measuring your A/F's. ( but why not, it's your Edge ! ) My 04 ran lean from the factory, 14:1. The 05 and 06 trucks ran rich, pig rich, as it was put at the time. I have seen an increase of 15 horse power to the rear wheels just by adjusting the tune to have the correct A/F ratio for that truck. Leaning it out does gives you more rwhp but could be too lean and you may not throw a CEL to indicate this. These mail order tuner/intake combo's are close, but as fate would have it, my 06 was a PIA to get adjusted to the 3.5 inch tube of the Air Force 1 intake. I personally would not just install an intake without a tune that was built for it, that's why I never bought the one advertised by Green about 6 months ago.
  6. Been having a burning smell lately, 10k miles on Edge now and just had oil changed so thought they spilled some. Parked on corner of driveway so I could try and fit under the Edge ( almost got stuck under there ) to check it out and oil filter and drain plug are ok. Found it wet near center of vehicle by transfer case cover and is probably dripping on exhaust y pipe there. Will post back dealer finding but after reading up on some PTU posts and some google hits with photo's, it is right in that area. After the mechanical problems with my two F150's, I can say I am a bit disappointed with these new Ford's. Also, would have been great if dealer noticed these drips when changing the oil last Wednesday since it is not that far from the oil drain plug and the underside of the vehicle is still brand new looking. I could see it immediately.
  7. My trucks have always had an intake kit installed as well as a Stang. You can also purchase these from a dealer ( ford racing, Dodge SRT etc.. ) for some models. Just do not over oil them, if you do, buy a can of MAF cleaner and spray the MAF off, then replace the filter. Been running the k&n drop in for 8k miles now with the snorkel tube thing removed off bottom of air box as well as a 93 octane performance tune. The little Edge kicks a$$ ! Now where is this intake kit we have been hearing about !!!!
  8. xcal3 by SCT is the flash device, it has 3 custom tunes by Evolution Performance.
  9. Jim, that's one hefty increase at the wheels with an 87 octane tune.. How about a 93 tune ? It would be great if you could post the dyno sheets for stock, 87 octane and 93 octane dyno runs ! Also, what are you guys doing with the trans shifts and the drive by wire throttle response ? I'm real interested here so please post back when the tuner/intake combo is available. I'm running a 93 octane tune in the Edge now with just a K&N drop in but my F150 trucks have had a custom tune built for the AF1 intake and that really is the way to go for most power from about 15 minutes of performance mod's. Kevin
  10. Agreed, and how are we to believe there's any power increase, or do we loose low end torque like the 'slowmasters' do for the F150 guys... Anyone find any dyno results comparing the power curve to the stock setup for the Gibson ?
  11. Stating the obvious, be sure you apply the discounts to the x-plan price or at least the so called "invoice" price. ( or k-plan if your an employee ! ) The invoice price is usually a few hundred higher than the x-plan from what I saw on the invoice sheets for the Edge's we looked at, since a buddy of mine is the general mgr at our local Ford dealer. In June, I got x-plan -$2000 rebate plus 0% financing on our 08 Limited - April 08 build date. Ended up at around $32,500 for a totally loaded Edge that had a $37,995 msrp window sticker. Good luck!
  12. Happy with my 93 octane custom tune by Evolution Performance on our Edge. Service was great and these guys are only about an hour from me so I ordered online and it was delivered next day. I did not want the shift pressures changed because I really like the smoothness of these 6 speed trans and it always seems to find the right gear. I had custom dyno tuning done on my Ford trucks from another tuner so I tend to look for a custom tune over the canned ones. Best seat of the pants gain AND throttle response for the $$ you will find anywhere. I may do a custom intake myself, none available yet so I bought a K&N drop in and the Edge already has a cold air inlet on top of air box vented behind the grill and if you pop the snorkel looking thing off the bottom right side of the air box, there is a nice baseball size opening for additional air. You can run another tube off this opening to behind the grill for additional cold air. ( another member here gave me the idea ) The Edge actually has a pretty decent intake design already, even with a heat dissipater on top, we just need to get some more cool outside air into the intake. I have done many dyno pulls on a couple of my trucks and have seen a +12 rwhp gain by simply having a large barrel fan running on high infront of the dyno so intake temp DOES make a difference. If your not going to dyno it, you need to be careful with some of the open intakes so you do not run too lean. Not sure what the average air/fuel ration is on the Edge but my 04 F150 ran lean from the factory and never threw a CEL. I'm sure if Steeda comes out with one, it will be dyno tested for the appropriate air flow and I probably would end up goin for it. As far as exhaust, I like the quiet stock catbacks, but Magnaflow has a setup for the Edge. It is a catback system and you'll get no real power increase but maybe good mellow sound, I prefer the quiet 'sleepers' and my .02, stay away from the flowmasters, - never was a fan of the chambered mufflers, go with flow through ! - and my goodness, why would you want one of these to sound like a truck ! ( sorry any flowmaster guys, again, just my .02. )
  13. x2 here. I ordered these, a bit more expensive but a perfect fit. Look way better than the stick on ones used on my trucks. ( and I had to retape them once when 1/2 came undone in the cold winter. I'll use Weathertech from here on. Also, I had tried a different in channel setup for one of the trucks, I believe AVS or something because it was cheaper. Never again. These were too thick in the window channel and the power window had a hard time closing. No issues like this with the WeatherTech. These are a top notch product, worth it imo.
  14. My .02 and a plug for these guys. Order an xcalibrator3 flash tuner from Evolution Performance and run the performance tune ( requires premium fuel ). Best performance mod for the $$ and takes 5 minutes to complete the install. All you do is sit in your drivers seat, plug it in to OBDII port under steering column and follow the instructions on screen. You'll like driving your Edge even more and you'll leave many wondering how they were just smoked by a Ford Edge ! Also noticed a 2 mpg increase in fuel economy so far - if you can stay out of WOT. And you can flash back to stock before returning the lease. The tuner can be easily reloaded for your next Ford vehicle from emailed tune files.
  15. Ford racing sells the oiled air intakes and they are part of their FR packages. Same with Roush. I have used them on past ( over 100k miles ) as well as the K&N on our Edge. Installed it when I got the tuner so not sure of any real seat of the pants gains for the filter alone but every little bit helps. ( you can also pop the small snorkel off bottom of air box so you have a baseball sized air hole versus the small nickel sized opening. ) I plan on getting a CAI kit when one is available, not really sure of the Green one that is available now but maybe someone will post a pic with it installed and do a review.
  16. I didn't find any other Edge tunes but I ordered from Evolution Performance. They are about 1 hour from me. Ordered online, received next day. Nice seat of the pants gain as well as throttle lag gone. Running 93 performance tune. Also picked up a K&N drop in air filter and removed the snorkel looking thing from bottom of air box.
  17. Nice, Xcal3. Who did the tune ? Should have received mine via fedx today - Evolution performance. They are only 45 minutes from me but it was not much to just get it shipped.
  18. I had similiar issue with the F150. It took 7 quarts, they only put in 6. Happened more than once. Just started having them write 7 quarts on the work order.
  19. Where did you get the tunes from ? Does SCT have canned tunes for a 2008 PCM code or are these custom ?
  20. Thanks ... 610 area code, someone local even !
  21. Hi everyone. New to the forum. Just purchased a 2008 ( built 04/08 ) Vapor Silver/black leather trim AWD Limited w/ 20" wheels and vista roof, Nav etc... :hyper: Almost went with same in black w/black interior ( I think these look sweet in black ) but the red inserts on the interior appearance package were a bit much for me. Really like it so far. The 6 speed trans seems to remove the sluggishness of an automatic in that it always has an optimum gear without you having to stomp on it. Traded a modded F150 scab FX4 in for it. ( tuner, intake, exhaust, efans, UD pulley's ) Been running a tuner on on an 04, 05 and 06 F150. Never an issue taking it in for service with dealer, even had all the inspections/emission tests done with tune installed. I was always amazed at the difference a tuner would do, best 2 minute mod for the $$ and another 2 minutes and you are flashed back to stock. Has anyone found a supported tuner for these ? Was going to call SCT since their web site does not list any 2008 models and no support for Edge for 2007. Thanks for any help. Kevin
