  1. Figured I'd roll the dice on the pigtails lining up right in the connector. The connector looks the same but I was hoping if the powered stuff is the same between the old one and the new one, I may get lucky and the pins might match up. So I didn't want to gamble on any gadgets I don't already have. I'm pretty sure the mirrors with BLIS have turn signals on the front. I don't know if turn signals come on mirrors that don't have BLIS, but either way, I don't have BLIS or turn signals in my current mirrors so my assumption is that the wires won't line up in the connector. At least this way I know everything's there on both sides, so if I have to butt splice or rebuild the pigtail or something, so be it. It'd be nice if it was plug and play but I'm not betting on it. We shall see!
  2. No sir. Just replacing what I already have with the newer style housing. Only thing different on the new one is the shape and the blind spot mirror. New one is paint to match instead of chrome cap.
  3. Just ordered a 2011-2014 driver side mirror from Tasca. It should be here next week. I'll let ya'll know how it shakes down and post some pics when it gets here.
  4. I'm not out to attack anyone personally at all... I want to know what you've tried and what did it get you... That's all. As in, where is your reality coming from? Did you do something that got you a few ponies? What is it and how many ponies is a few ponies approximately? These are the questions people like me want to know the answers to.
  5. I just hope that the previously existing mainstream EDGE "enthusiasts" haven't driven all of the fun people away from this forum completely. There may yet still be a chance for some real aftermarket solutions if we can revive some real enthusiasm and gain some real intelligence on this topic. If the consumer isn't buying, the aftermarket isn't doing any R&D and providing any support for a non-existent market. But with the used EDGE buyers out there, there is an opportunity for some revival if we stop asking "why would you" and start asking "how can we". I've had my 2009 MKX for about three years now and I have gained some knowledge from this forum on occasion. I've lurked on here for quite a while and was hesitant to join at first because of some people's attitudes. I get extremely frustrated with some of the ways questions are addressed on here. I found this forum via Google just like I'm sure everyone else had and everyone else likely will when they seek information about these vehicles. If you guys want people to learn and contribute things that may help YOU someday, stop acting like you know the answers if you've just settled on an opinion of the status quo and haven't tried anything. Please stop decreasing the value of our vehicles to new buyers. Ok go...
  6. Well at least you didn't say I'm an idiot!!! Lol Thanks for that! Understanding that "most" people don't buy EDGEs or MKXs for a performance vehicle, I fully agree with you... However, I don't think it's healthy for these people to smear their opinions and/or skepticism all over the mods & tech forums. There are many older EDGE and MKX models that are being purchased used as they become more affordable to a new group of owners. If everyone just says that these cars just are what they are and to leave them alone, we're lowering the appeal to new buyers and in turn the resale value of these terrific but VERY COMMON best-selling vehicles! So let's all rally the troops here.... Who out there has added any performance benefit to their 3.5 naturally aspirated V6? What did you do and how did it work for you? Did you get a tune? What device and tune did you get, where did you get it and what did it do for you? What supporting mods did you add in conjunction with the tune and how did it go? There are guys on here that added nitrous! (I'm not going that far but..) What are you using? How's it work for you? Anything goes here people... Mild to Extreme... Let's hear about it!!! People need to hear that they're not idiots and that there really ARE options for those that ARE interested.
  7. Sorry... Old thread, but it still Ticks me off. Not much traffic on this forum it seems and that's what makes what I said above even worse!! Stop the negativity please!!! Be enthusiasts or don't.
  8. Man some of you people are ridiculous. Who really cares what the Edge was "intended" to be? We all own them yet we all have different tastes. Some of us like getting a little better performance out of our cars. The REAL reason why there's no aftermarket for these cars is because of all the people like the guy that said "there's really no room for improvement" or that "it's not intended to be a performance vehicle" or "Ford would have made it that way from the factory if it did anything." This is the Mods and Tech section people!!! If you don't care about mods & tech and finding out what really works on these things, then why the heck are you posting on here at all? I blame YOU for the limited aftermarket support on these vehicles... And to the people who say someone is silly or juvenile for wanting to get more out of their vehicles, maybe you need to read your comments before you leave them. How about we all work to find solutions together instead of just throwing in the proverbial towel every time someone is seeking better performance and just saying it can't be done. Surely you people have not tried everything. If you have tried something, leave a comment. If you haven't tried anything and are just giving your opinion based on other people's opinions that you read about, then stop commenting with your opinion about what doesn't work and help find something that does.
  9. Anyway... Edges aren't race cars. Lower it anyway. I want to lower mine sometime soon hopefully. Let us know how it goes!
  10. Looks nice man! Are those new rotors too?
  11. I tend to agree that caliper paint will look better. I plan to paint mine before I get my new wheels. I'm guessing a can of caliper spray paint is around ten bucks but I haven't looked yet. Anyway opinions are like A-holes... Everybody's got one. Lol
  12. It does sound practical. I'll try to order a new style mirror in the next couple weeks. I'll post a follow up with some details and some pics when I can.
  13. That's actually on the list for later on down the road when I get my SCT Livewire. You think all my ideas suck man... I get it. That's fine.
  14. The more I think about this, the more excited I get actually... Might just have to put the dang truck stuff off another month so I can buy these stupid mirrors!!!
  15. I will hopefully be able to post an update in a few weeks with the results. I have a vacation coming up and I just scheduled some more work on the truck so money's tight for a bit. I just saw a 2011-2014 Edge with the newer style mirrors out in the parking lot on my way to lunch today. The actual mirror part doesn't even really look much smaller to me than the older style aside from it having the blind spot mirror in the corner which is what I want. Looks like they just positioned the glass down further in the newer style housing. The newer style mirror assembly almost looks like a larger version of the Taurus mirror to me. So if this works out, I'll be trading the larger, chrome clad almost mini-truck style mirrors in for some nice sleek black streamlined mirrors. Taking a cue from the Europeans I guess. Real autobahn stuff here fellas!!! Lol
  16. Thanks for the story! I'm assuming that since it was an 01, it was likely due for some new parts! Did you realize any benefits at all over those 8 months without a miss on the Accels? Could there have been another cause for the miss, or are you sure it was the coils? My thought was that if I did do this, I'd do plugs and coils at the same time. Definitely a PITA having to take the intake manifold off to get to the 3 on the back side. Only want to have to do it once if I can help it. I agree that for long term reliability, OEM is the way to go 9 out of ten times. However, my thought was that if Accels are as good as or better than OEM somehow, it may be worth rolling dice and giving them a shot if there are any performance benefits at all. Here's the thing... The idea is to eventually add a custom tune so my timing is going to be adjusted a little at some point. If these work better than stock on the stock tune, perhaps they'll compliment the tune as well and provide additional benefit. I would tend to believe that this is what aftermarket coils are really intended for. The real benefits of aftermarket bolt-on performance parts typically aren't realized to their full potential or maybe at all without a custom tune to help everything work together efficiently.
  17. I'm gonna give it a shot I think. The ones I want do not have the turn signals or the Blind Spot Indication System. Before I order, I'll take my mirror off and do one more comparison on that harness connection but I think if the mirrors I buy have the same power options my current mirrors have (which they do), I should be ok.
  18. The harness connections look the same in all of the pictures I can see on eBay and the doors didn't change at all. Just don't know how the pins line up in the harness but I think I can get em to work. My original mirrors are chrome covered. I thought I might go with the black paint to match ones this time. Wanna tone down the chrome a little... She's getting black wheels eventually too.
  19. Thanks for the reply man! I looked at all that stuff. I got the part numbers for my year on standby but I want to know if the late 2011-2014 style will fit because I like the way they look a little better. Little more streamlined...
  20. Two "nays"... Any "ayes" out there? Lol Have you guys used them? Is there a bunch of bad feedback out there somewhere that I haven't seen or is this all personal experience? I haven't found any other threads on here that really discuss these things. So I'm curious to see if anyone is trying these or has tried these. Not that this part is even that relevant in the big picture.. I figured that aftermarket coils have been a source of controversy in other aftermarkets for a long time so I'd stir the pot a little on it here. Coming from the Powerstroke world and the mustang world before that, I understand that OEM parts are necessary in some applications and there's room for improvement in others. Looking for some real world experiences, success stories, failures, etc.. If these are crap, please tell me why.
  21. I've been reading up on changing spark plugs on here lately. Is there a concensus on whether the Accel Coils are any good on these vehicles yet or not? Anyone running them? How are they working out? Any reliability issues?
  22. New guy here... I was always of the belief that the more power potential you have, the more efficient the engine can operate... That being said, the comments stated above about there being no way to have both more power and better fuel economy at the same time would be dependent on how heavy the driver's right foot is if my theory is correct. So with that scenario, more power potential on the highway at speed with the cruise control locked at 2,000 RPM over long a distance should net better mileage, where as stop light to stop light in the city would likely be worse because driving conservatively is boring when you have more power available.
  23. I'm a new guy to the forum even though I've been lurking silent for a while now... Anyway, I have a 2009 all wheel drive Gen 1 MKX with the 3.5L V6 and I'm a guy like most on here that can't leave anything alone. So... From what I've read from my research so far, Magnaflow makes a cat back exhaust for both the FWD and the AWD Edge/MKX. Looks like Gibson makes a kit for the FWD models only (but it can be modified to fit the AWD). From the sound clips and videos I've watched, they both sound good, but I'm leaning towards the Gibson sound (and price). I know this has been discussed many times on here because this is where I got the majority of my information. But this is also why I wanted to start a fresh thread to reinvigorate the topic and maybe get some opinions from more people who have done it more recently. I suppose I'd like to see what the new concensus is or if any new information has surfaced since the last thread on this topic while allowing myself the opportunity to ask some more specific questions. So here goes: 1) First off, is what I said above still accurate in regards to the two aftermarket brands and their kits for the 3.5L (Magnaflow fits AWD and FWD, Gibson fits FWD only) and/or has anything new come out from any other aftermarket companies more recently that's worth a look? If there's anything different, what is it? 2) For those that have modified the Gibson kit to fit their AWD vehicles, what exactly are the modifications required and what is the cost of having a muffler shop do this? How do you like it? Can you please show some pics of the modified system and videos of the sound? 3) For those with the Magnaflow kit, how do you like it? Can you also please show some pics of the system and videos of the sound? I plan to do an exhaust as one of the first performance mods on this vehicle so I'm weighing the pros and cons of both systems versus the cost difference between them after installation. I can do a bolt-on kit no problem, but if anything needs bent or welded, I'd be entrusting that to the pros. Eventually want to look into the Weapon R Secret Weapon intake, Jet Powrflo MAF, and custom SCT tunes, etc... Thanks in advance for any input!
