  1. Heck, this is going to be for my daughter. I have to detune the puppy so it is not so fast
  2. Hey Guys, thanks for all your help. I was planning on doing the swap later on, but I had to move the car from the house where it is parked. Some notes: - I ended up purchasing the front eye lift tool (303-1245). Could not have done it without it. - The removal instructions were pretty good, although in hindsight everything was pretty straightforward. - You can't use the trans-dapt (engine sling) using the rear eye hook behind the intake manifold. When you raise up the engine, there is not enough clearance under the cowling. So i used the metal bracket next to the passenger side motor mount. However, this lets the engine rock backwards. I removed the shift cable bracket from the transmission, and used a nylon strap on the eye hook on the transmission (attached to the hook on the engine lift) to pull the back of the tranny up. - I could not get one of the oil cooler lines off the side of the tranny, even with the special tool. So i just unscrewed the 24 mm fitting, it has an O-ring, not sure why this is not done in the first place. - I was able to get a dolly under the engine which let me slide it out the passenger side. - The front of the car had to be lifted up quite high. Instead of using the jack stands on the highest position, I used wood boards underneath for stability. - You have to strap the front of the subframe up to the front eye-lift tool when you drop the engine down. The rear is attached with the motor mount, the front is not attached at all. - Once the subframe/engine assembly was on the ground, taking out the CV joints made it easier to move the engine and tranny off the subframe. - I marked the steering wheel coupling to the rack before I removed it, that was a good move because the rack moved when I was messing around with removing the CV joints. - Took about 20 hours, I had to swap accessories off old engine to newer one. - The torque converter bolts are grade 10.9, so they are not stretch bolts. I just used more blue loctite on them. Pictures attached. Thanks, George
  3. Hey Guys, I got the engine and trans for the 2011 Edge. Has anyone replaced the trans seal for the torque converter? I am wondering if the seal was damaged by the strap they put on the torque converter to keep it in place. It biased the torque converter to the side, not sure how bad. If is it as easy as pulling the torque converter out and replacing a seal, it might be good insurance. Anyone ever do this? I included a picture of the trans...... Thanks, George
  4. Just checking, it says in the manual to use new torque converter bolts. On VW's I always reused them, is that necessary....? THanks, George
  5. excellent, thanks! I wish my soon-to-be ex had learned "as requested". I don't have the powertrain lift, I am hoping to lower the subframe with engine and transmission to the ground with the cherry picker, then lift up the vehicle and scoot it out. I have done that before on later model VW's..... Necessity is the mother of all invention... and screw ups as well. - George
  6. Hey Guys (and gals): I got the engine, transmission, and associated parts. I am about to buy a service manual on DVD off of ebay. Anyone have any experience with these manuals? I found a engine removal pdf on the forum here, it is for a 2008. Not sure how close it is to the 2011. If anyone has the engine removal instructions for the 2011 I would appreciate it. Looks like I need to buy the oil cooler line removal tool, anybody have any experience with this? I found 2 on amazon: Assenmacher Specialty Tools 8023 Oil Cooler Line Disconnect Tool Lisle 39660 3/8" x 1/2" Transmission Oil Cooler Line Scissor I found the engine eye lift tool on ebay: Eye, Engine Lift 303-1245 Thanks again for all the help. - George
  7. Thanks again Guys. I got a 2013 Engine, 27K miles. I got a 2012 Edge Trans, 22K miles. I also got the CV axles and the alternator. I am thinking about buying the front hubs as well. Anything else that comes to mind to replace while I am at it? The vehicle has 215K miles but is in great shape. Thanks, George p.s. My friend with a shop said that he can probably do it for (with me) me if I wait a month, so things are looking up
  8. Ok, he has a 2013 Edge engine, only 27K miles. As long as the compression ratio is the same I am going to jump on that. Thanks, George
  9. Thanks!!! Looking at the specs, the throttle body is a different bore size, the compression ratios are also different. Wow. That would have been a big mistake, I bet the ECU code is different for both engines. Lemme see what the guy says from LKQ. - George
  10. Hey Guys,I found a salvage yard with a 22K miles engine from a 2013 Ford Flex. Will that work? Just wanna make sure, thanks! - George
  11. Well, I just saw macbwt's post "What does a P0016 have to do with water pump failure?" Great video, exactly what happened to my stepdaughters car. Looks like 2011 -2014 engines will work. Anyone know about the trannies? Thanks, George
  12. Dang, I wish I would have know this a while ago. Yup, the car threw a P0016 code 1 week prior to the water pump total failure. Never seen a water pump that leaks into engine on failure. Time to replace the engine.....!
  13. My stepdaughters 2011 ford edge had a water pump failure 213K miles. I suspect the engine is toast, milkshake inside for who knows how long. I am going to get a replacement engine and trans. Any advice would be helpful. It looks like the engine and trans drops down with the subframe. - Up to what year can I get to replace the engine? I have been told that it is the same until 2015. - Up to what year can I get to replace the transmission? I have also been told that it is the same until 2015, but I have also been told that it will have to be recoded from the dealer. - I am thinking LKQ.... The Edge really is in nice shape, not a single dent on it, and it would be a shame to scrap it. Two buddies of mine volunteered to help, so as long as I get good beer and chow it looks like this could be a fun swap.... Thanks, George p.s. if macbwt or waldo are reading this, I heard you guys are the experts on this...... !
