  1. I have not checked lately because now the phone sits in the center console but I used to have the same thing happen when using google maps or waze with the iphone by itself. Also it needed to be plugged it to a 2.1 amp charger or it would slowly lose charge on a basic 1amp charger or 0.5amp like the usb from the older Ford escape. Screen always on + nav apps uses a lot of energy.
  2. I use carplay a lot and maybe soon waze. I keep plugging in the phone to the lightning cable and it barely fits in the mkx compartment so I often just leave it at a 45' angle to try to save the cable. I'd like to have a dock that I can just easily slide the phone into vertically; I don't mind that the compartment has to stay open. Anyone has something that works well for this? I have looked a little on amazon but could not find anything. iphoneX if that makes a difference
  3. Thanks my receiver top is at 16" so I guess I need to find a 2" drop that is reversible.
  4. I have a 2016 MKX if that makes any difference vs edge. Stock towing package but don't have the ball and mount yet. I will just be renting trailers 2-3 times per year.
  5. I wonder if maybe a lot of those engines will lose power or increase in cost due to anti-polllution changes. VW was the first to get caught but it seems that every German maker was cheating in some way with diesels. No reason to believe that Ford has a magic engine that can outperform German engines.
  6. Went from escape 2011 3.0L 6cyl to mkx 2016 2.7L 6cyl ecoboost. Both AWD. The ecoboost is really great. There is no noticeable turbo lag. The paddle shifter are actually useful and responsive enough to set the right gear going out of a curve or preparing to accelerate onto the highway. MPG is not great but for the power I get it seems reasonable. Even the engine sound is nice but maybe that it fake stereo sound. I enjoy having both drive and sport because sport is too reactive to drive your grandma as comfortably as possible. As for the AWD. It was working just as well on the 2011 escape but the braking and traction control would kick in way too early; had to disable it from the console button. In the MKX disabling it is a pain going into the menu 3 layers deep but I don't really need to most of the time; it will let me slide a little before kicking in. As a side note I also had a 6.2L F250 with locker. I loved it but it was a pain to have to manually go out of 4x4 at low speed just to be able to park. Also when in 2x4 on ice or snow removing the traction control was just crazy; slight blip of the throttle and the rear end is already sideways. Note on the rims too. One of the big reasons I went with the MKX. Really did not like the rims on the edge but the rest of the car looked good to me. The sport rims I liked but at this point I was already near MKX used cost so that is what I got. I am sure I would have been almost as happy with the Edge 2.0 but I really enjoy my MKX. I do not plan on going back to normally aspirated engines when turbos are available. Of course by the time I am due for a new car it could be the Edge all electric 80KW or something like that.
  7. As to the original question you can get a white noise generator for your bedroom with a smartspeaker like the google mini or echo dot. Just ask it to simulate a fan, wind, waterfall, whatever and it does. I don't think that would be useful in a car but you could always just lower a window and listen to the wind.
  8. I think it's undercoating and double glazed windows for the edge platinum. You get active noise cancellation in the MKX.
  9. I was annoyed at this today after I go out just a second to get my mail and I need the keys to unlock the mailbox. Next time I'll just leave the door slightly open and maybe one day that feature will save me from letting the car run for no reason. Also gave a good show to the neighbors after I accidentally pressed the panic button while trying to unlock the house door with my hands full of bags, mails and other stuff. Took me a while to figure out that lock and unlock won't cancel the panic; just pushing panic again will stop the panic. Not exactly my first idea of which button to try.
  10. https://imgur.com/a/5AUEL First impressions: So comfortable and silent. I have set the drive mode to comfort suspension and normal performance and the sport mode to sport/sport. It does something like the bose noise cancelling headphones; so quiet in there. You don't realize how loud you talk in cars until you get one where you don't have to. Great to listen to calm music or podcasts too. Currently on 18 winters; the 21 summers will probably be a bit louder. All reviews said get the 2.7T engine instead of the 3.7. 335hp/380tq same as the new Edge ST. Right now in winter this seems crazy. Go off the line is too much; I have to relearn to go gently on the gas for my passengers. The MPG in the city is not going to be great; this is a heavy car to move. I love carplay. sync 1 was basically worse than just having bluetooth audio because it would screw with siri. Sync 3 seems better and works fine with bluetooth audio and siri but I think I will be using carplay 100% of the time. Looking forward to waze for sync 3 too. The trunk is quite wide and deep but not very high. I used to be able to barely fit my bike upright with the front wheel off in my 2011 escape; won't fit upright in the MKX but there's plenty of space to put it flat with the front wheel on. Panorama roof is amazing. So much light coming in during winter. I am not sure how often I will leave it open during summer; I use this mostly to feel less caged. There is no traction control off button. You have to go into the menu 2-3 menus deep. Not a big deal but I used to have that button on all my other cars with traction control. The lights gradually turn on when you approach the car with the key and the mirror project a lighted Lincoln logo next to the front doors. I love it. Kick under the bumper to open the trunk seems to only work when there is light. Tested it outside and it works great. In my garage with the light off I could not get it to detect me. I am also wondering how useful it is when leaving the car since it does not seem to lock after. At some point I will have to use the remote to lock the doors or press on the outside door button. The reserve model has a modem and I can remote start, lock or unlock from my phone from anywhere. Also there is a scheduled start that I have not tested yet. I think I will like this a lot coming back from the city on the bus to the parking. Get off the bus to an already warm car.
  11. Had to google apim. I see now its a 2 layer thing sync then apim. Ill stick with 2.3 for now but I really want waze when it comes out My expertise is more with computer systems and that is why I was wondering how the software knew which options the car had. I guess it would still be possible for a beta release version of sync to be made for a single car model without all the options and the right colors and to just crash when tester in a different model.
  12. You installed a sync3 screen(apim?) in a 2012? Where do you get your update files from? How does it recognize the car to know if it has to enable seat controls?
  13. You have a 2012. I’m looking for someone that did a 2016+ Sync 3 version 3.0 update from unofficial files.
  14. Did sync turn blue and white like it is on the edge or does it somehow know it is in a Lincoln car during install and keep the right color for that model? It has to be somehow adjustable for cars with or without heated steering, cooling seats, ...
  15. OEM MICROSOFT SYNC 3 Is'nt it made by blackberry with qnx now? Microsoft should have nothing to do at all with sync 3
  16. MKX 2016 2.7T already has that 335 and 380 engine but only on octane 93 and 6 speed transmission. It is probably heavyer than the Edge. It was meant to compete with the Lexus RX but also the BMW X5 when you look at the size; the X3 is much smaller closer to an escape or MKC. The X5 with the base 3.0 turbo engine is also much heavyer than the MKX so imagine vs the Edge. That being said I think all BMWs require octane 93 so they are always at peak numbers. The MKX only requires 87 but published numbers have an * that specify octane 93. The numbers we see for BMW don't line up with the hp/tq numbers we see for american cars. They have to be under reporting them for some reason. Will the Edge 2.7 ST be faster than the X3? I don't know. If it is that is just crazy because the Edge is so much bigger even if weights are similar. Pretty sure MPG will be much worse on the Edge vs the BMW but for how much those cars cost gas price is not that much of a concern.
  17. What? I expect the hardware to be built in China but not sure where it would be designed. For sure the software comes from Blackberry so probably from Canada. It's like Android vs phone makers all over again. They can come out with Android version 100 but if the phone makers does not push it you could be stuck forever to version 99, 98, 90, 80... I used to work for Nokia before it went bust and phones sold internationally would have more features and later version than USA phones. AT&T would actually force Nokia to cripple the software and disallow using your phone as a wifi point or being able to load different ringtones because they wanted to charge for those things separately. Apple changed all that by being important enough and directly pushing their own updates. Google has their own phones but others are still hostages. Just like BMW now starting to charge yearly to be allowed to use carplay or android auto. Right now all automakers are looking at going to subscription services. Tesla that can unlock more battery with a code for $$$. Hardware already there for autopilot but has to be unlocked. Maybe we will even see basic things such as heated seats installed but needing to be unlocked. Right now all I want is carplay so 2.3 will do the job but once waze is available I want that ASAP.
  18. What I know: - Sync 3 only works on sync 3 hardware which can be changed in the middle of a model year such as for the MKX. - Current version is 2.3 for downloads but there is a version 3 on new cars - Waze will work on some form of version 3 but does not seem to work yet even on new cars - You can buy and install sync 3 hardware on sync 2 cars and climate, heated seats, etc will work just fine So is there a resource somewhere that gives more detailed info on all this. For example if I get my hands on the download for v3 for a 2018 edge would it work on a 2017 MKX? If not what are the models that are compatible and which are not?
  19. Any idea when this is coming? Currently at 2.3 on my MKX; I know there is a v3 floating on the net but unsure if it would work on my car and unsure if it would enable waze anyway or if there is a 3.1 coming later as a first official update. I know from reading forums that some people already with v3 on 2018 cars or from the internet download do not have waze yet.
  20. Yes it is working now. Not great but good enough. It was failing for an entire week and from reading the forums it seemed like it had been failing since december and Ford did not give out an ETA on when it would be fixed. I would not have been happy getting a car based on carplay capability and not being able to make it work. I could always have lived with a few days before carplay but it is the main reason why I shopped for an mkx with sync 3; it has to work.
  21. You are right of course. Much safer to wait for the download from Ford. Tech companies would have a mechanism that looks for a checksum to prevent any corrupted files. Car companies maybe are not there yet but maybe they are; I have read quite a few stories of people not being able to update by usb; maybe those were corrupted files. Normally I would expect update files from a reputable source to be available easily and reliably even for a 100$ electronic gizmo. I have hue lightbulbs that update firmware by wifi easily; the bulbs are 20$. I would also expect a changelog that tells you what the update does. Had another Ford before and sync updates did work eventually but it was never trouble free first time and done. I wish Ford had put that last extra bit of finish on their product. They are forward looking with carplay available in 2016 cars and I think they will be the first to integrate waze too.
  22. So does waze work as a Ford app on the car screen for those that do have v3.0? Anyone got it to work on a 2016 with the 3.0 that is floating around on the Internet? I have been going back to apple maps for the last 2 weeks and it is quite a bit worse than google maps or waze at predicting the best route with traffic and events. Also sometimes completely unaware of a street you can turn on and will tell me to go further and make a youturn when I can just make a left and arrive
  23. Currently the ford and lincoln download to usb service is down. I have a 2016 MKX with sync 3.0 version 1 I found a jl1t-14g381-aj download for 2.3 NAV NA on the web. Is this the same for all cars with NAV? "SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 2.3.10 - Only for MY 16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies." I also found a file for version 3.0 but that is even sketchier. Don't really need it until they get waze working. All I want is carplay for maps, podcasts and music. I have upgraded the usb hub.
