  1. What is the torque spec on the drain and fill plugs?
  2. I've used Supertech in the past with no issue. You can search www.bobistheoilguy.com for comments or comparisons of oil. Mostly I use Mobil 1 now buy it when it's on sale.
  3. So why didn't he just agree to change the fluid? Something like, "Yea I can change it for you. It'll cost you $xxx" was what I was expecting. Uhhh me customer? I mentioned how close the catalytic converter was to the PTU, and he said I could talk to one of his experts but it's good for a 100,000 miles. Guess I could try another Ford dealer. Not sure I want to do this myself, it's really tight in there. There was a post around here somewhere saying they changed their PTU on a 2017 AWD and the fluid looked fine at 29000 miles. I never know how long I'll keep a vehicle.
  4. After reading the many posts here I talked to the service guy at the dealer about my new to me CPO Ford Edge PTU with nearly 29k miles on it. Not sure if you can see from the picture but there are paint marks on the drain and fill plugs so if one were to service this unit themselves it would probable void the warranty. I asked the service guy if it would be a good idea to change the fluid with summer driving coming up, he assured me no service was necessary on the PTU before 100,000 miles. He explained the most important thing was too keeping my tires rotated. Tires of different size would put a strain on the PTU. Thought this was interesting since my tire pressure was 34 psi left front, 32 right front, 30 left rear and 29 right rear. I adjusted all tires to 35 psi. Anyway I'm enjoying my new Edge. Cheers
  5. I've only had my 2018 Ford Edge Titanium for a week. Bought it CPO with 28k miles, rear brakes look fine. Maybe replaced before I got it? Honestly, I hate rear disk brakes on cars wish they were drums. Twice I've had to replace both rear callipers on different vehicles because salt hits them and destroys them in the winter. They should just stuck with rear drum brakes!
  6. Congrats on the new purchase. We're on our first Edge. It's a 2018 Titanium AWD, a little concerned about the PTO.
  7. This just worked for me, https://researchmaniacs.com/VIN-Number-Lookup/WindowSticker/Ford.html Good luck
  8. Been changing oil for 54 years. Old man had a trucking company, no diesels plenty of dock highs and semis. Guss who did the work. Too cold to change now.
  9. Hahaha no, Tuesday morning was 6 degrees...not wind chill. Normal temperatures should be in the 40's here in Ohio. Oh well. The climate changes 4 times a year here! No, I won't be changing the oil till it gets into the low 50's and I'll use 5w20 full synthetic. I'm not in a hurry, the oil looks clean. I think(hope) the Valvoline sticker was from the oil change before the dealer got it and did the CPO inspection. So the dealer didn't take the Valvoline sticker off the wind-shield and reset the OLM after they changed the oil! HAHAHAHA The miles on the Valvoline sticker was 3000 miles before the mileage was when I bought it. The oil that's in it doesn't have 3000 miles on it, way to clean. Oh well, we like the vehicle and think we got a good deal.
  10. Saw this done to an Audi AWD on the Wheeler Dealers show with the car up on a lift. What he did was after the fluid was drained completely, pushed the syringe tight up against the drain plug and filled. Holding the syringe tight prevents spillage. Once filled he held the syringe tight with his right hand and the drain plug in his left. With a smooth motion, holding the drain plug up near the hole/syringe, pulled the syringe out and quickly moved the drain plug into it's place. Then just tightened up the plug.
  11. I'd like to use 5w30, have some Mobil 1 left over from my Chevy 3.6l I'll probable sell to my buddy or use it in the wife's car. Funny thing, the Ford 3.5L uses the same oil filter as my Chevy 3.6L used, so those two extra oil filters I have are good!
  12. Yea but the 946 is for the 2.0 and 2.7 litre not the 3.5 litre. Correct? I have the 3.5L so I must use the 5w20 not the 5w30. Correct? thanks
  13. Yes, the WSS-M2C945-A is in my owners manual as well. So I think I'm ok too "fingers crossed" and I'll go full synthetic going forward. I'll save that valvoline link in case there's some question for warranty. It's not so much the burning of oil I'm concerned about, it's the wearing of those chain guides. When do you guys change oil? I've always used OLM in my GM cars. The GM dealer recommended changing the oil when the OLM gets down to around 10% and that's what I always did in my GM 3.6L. But the Ford dealer said they changed the oil and it's clean so I think they did, but didn't reset the OLM. Who doesn't do that!
  14. Yea, that's what I'm planning on doing. Main concern is how the conventional oil may have caused wear inside the engine when Synthetic Blend is recommended by ford and GM and it may sound like this someday, Thanks
  15. How do I get the bottom cover off to get to the oil filter and drain plug? Thanks
  16. I can only hope the oil was changed "frequently" up till now. Hence the risk of purchasing a used car. The oil looks clean right now, so it appears it was changed at the dealer and they didn't reset the OLM. I''ve always used the OLM in my previous cars, so why not use it now? Yes, 3.5L.
  17. Bought a CPO Edge over the weekend and enjoying it. Two problems, 1st, Noticed a windshield a sticker that said Valvoline conventional oil change about 3000 miles ago. Manual says, "Recommended motor oil (U.S.): Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil XO-5W20-QSP" So whoever had this vehicle before me used conventional oil! ? 2nd, After the test drive noticed the oil percentage down to 39% so asked about an oil change at the dealer... salesman said, "oh they just didn't reset it". Really! Picked the car up a day, they were going to reset it... now reads 37%, so they didn't reset it. The oil looks clean, but the oil monitor now reads 36%. I'm thinking I'll change it when it gets down to 10%. What kind of damage was done to this engine running conventional motor oil through it the first 28,000 miles? I'm intending on keeping the vehicle. Thanks
  18. Picked up my new to me 2018 Titanium last Saturday, No whistle from the roof, everything perfect. Getting a little nervous.
  19. What year Edge? Where does the crack occur? Is there some circumstance that causes this? Extreme cold/heat? Just picked up my 2018 new to me edge the other day. ? Thanks
  20. Just bought a CPO 2018 Ford Edge with 28,000 miles on a 3.5L. There was a mention on the forum about a throttle body problem with the 3.5L? Hopefully that's fixed? ? Anything else I should be looking for or I should know? Thanks ?
