This may have come up so I apologize if this redundant.... If Ford claims bankruptcy, does anyone know what this means to our warranty??

I have a 2008 edge, limited AWD and it does the same thing. I was told by the service department that it was normal operation. During one of my visits for a PTO repair, they gave me a EDGE rental and it too had this ticking noise. It's a great car but it's not a Benz!

You made the mistake like the rest of us by getting AWD. Look under burning smell, relative to PTU leaks... I hope this issue will pass you by.

Interesting back on 01/20 we got our done for the 3rd time. But my seal # is 7275B kit and we also got a 7T4z-3a329*bd shaft. I am very concerned as well. We had called Ford back on the 3rd time , Ford told me they can ONLY document the issue but because my local Ford deal fixed the issue the is NO issue. I did ask for an extra warranty and he did not say anything. So basically the next time it breaks I need to call them first before my dealer. Also we are still getting some type of smell when the heat is on. to me it smalls like gear fluid. However, I know the PTU is not leaking because I check it every other day by going underneath the car. Does anyone else have this smell when you come to stop? I also know I have no residual oil from the previous leaks. I am at a loss with the smell.

Please post as what they say. I had the pto seal done and shaft and we are going on 3 weeks 1k mi and no loeaks or smell. Make sure they are have there senior service rep doing the work.

Do you have a Vista rook?? If yes, it's not your windshield it's the vista roof. I have a 08 limited AWD and it does it all the time. My dealer says they can't find why it's doing it. I found a TSB on this site for the fix for vista roofs but for 07 model. So the next time I bring it in for service I plan on providing my dealer with details how to fix the issue. very silly.

Hello, I live in New Hampshire and have the same exact problem with my vista roof. Every bump it rattles, did you find anything out??

So... Are you saying it works or not working with the new ptu. I thought you said you were getting a buy back from your dealer? How is that working from what I hear that is extreamly hard to pull off. The dealers don't want a used car back. I have called more then 6 dealerships and they all saying that there is not an updated PTU unit, even if they do the dealership would need Ford to approve. I went back thru the posts and did not see a part # for a PTU unit. Did you have the seal and shaft done before, this seems to have fixed our issue. However it's only been 2 weeks and about 800miles.

We have had 3 seals done, and the last time they did a seal and shaft. We have had no leaks since 01/20, I tend to check it every couple of days where my wife drives the car. We are in New Hampshire and when she parks in the garage I do smell something but it smells slightly different. I have checked everywhere but have found no leaks or issues. Hopefully we can keep it from leaking. If ANYONE out there has been able to get the dealer to take back the car please reply.... I have done some research and it's not an easy task. I may just trade it in for another brand if it keeps happening. I don't have the time to play with FORD.

I have 2008 limited and got the same parts installed back on 01/20 and so far no leaks. I actually go underneath the car and stick my fingers in the seal area to see any signs of a leak. I also asked my dealer if they are replacing pto's and he said that's not the problem. Anyone know if there is a mileage limitation for New Hampshire lemon law. Everything I have read does not show any mileage. When you file for arbitration the dealer does have one more chance.

Agree, do you know if there is a limitation for mileage for the lemon law? Also, I have read hundreds of posts about this issue, I am amazed that no one has mention a class action lawsuit.

I must say I disagree. If oil is dripping on the exhaust, then there is a "chance" of a fire. This being a safety issue. I also believe there should be a recall, I have been to my dealer 3 time for a car that is 6 mths old and we all apid good money for. There should be no leak and no concern of safty.

I am having the same issue, today my Ford dealer is at attempt #3. They did a new pto seal last week, they said it was a new style and was shocked that it was leaking again. The service manager was telling me this is a huge issue for Ford. I am not sure how they will resolve if it keeps happening. It's a pain in the ass, just want it fixed. What have they been telling you?

I purchased a 2008 AWD Edge Limited. I have had the car at the service department 2 times already for PTO seal and it's still leaking. I am working with the dealers service manager when I send him an e-mail he only replies to me by phone or he deletes the content of the email and responds. I am concerned with this and its almost he's trying to protect himself from acknowledging a flaw with the car. I believe I have a LEMON at this point. He tells me that he wants to check the bearing and axle. Has anyone had this issue? I see many postings about PTO leaks but not many as to how or if they worked.
