  1. We've updated the results for the Edge to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2009: 71, about average, small sample size, unable to split FWD and AWD 2008 FWD: 45, about average, marginal sample size--actual repair rate probably lower 2008 AWD: 99, worse than average 2007 FWD: 23, better than average, marginal sample size 2007 AWD: 95, worse than average The AWD continues to require more repairs owing to a common problem with the PTU seal. A big thank you to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop. We don't have these for the Edge yet, though, because they require a larger number of responses. So if you aren't already participating, please consider doing so. Ford Edge reliability comparisons
  2. Updated results again next month. We're going to start providing new stats for the odds of requiring no repairs and the odds of getting a lemon. These require larger sample sizes, so additional participants would be helpful. The AWDs are currently a few participants short of the minimum for these stats, while the FWDs are a couple short for the regular results. For the details, and to sign up: Car reliability research
  3. We've updated the results for the Edge to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2008 FWD: 53, about average, marginal sample size--actual repair rate probably lower 2008 AWD: 99, worse than average 2007 FWD: 28, better than average 2007 AWD: 98, worse than average The AWD continues to require more repairs owing to a common problem with the PTU seal. A big thank you to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years. Ford Edge reliability comparisons
  4. 197 owners now signed up. A very good start, but more remain needed to properly cover all model years. Especially need more 2009s. Car reliability research
  5. We have updated results for the Edge and MKX to include owner experiences through March 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2007 FWD: 17, better than average 2007 AWD: 99, worse than average, thanks to the PTU seal 2008 FWD: 60, about average, but marginal sample size; actual repair rate likely lower based on 2007 results 2008 AWD: 88, worse than average, PTU seal continues to be a problem area A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years. Ford Edge reliability comparisons
  6. We have updated results for the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2007 FWD: 28, better than average 2007 AWD: 95, worse than average (PTU seal, as before) 2008: 28, identical to 2007 FWD and better than average. A big thanks to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May, August, and November. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years. We especially need more 2007s and 2009s. We now have a separate results page for each model that includes the results for competitors. The page for the Ford Edge: Ford Edge reliability comparisons
  7. Those updated results this week. Great participation by Edge and MKX owners. Thanks, guys. Of course, more participants would be even better. We especially need 2009s. Car reliability research
  8. We're about to start the last month of data collection before the February results. Additional participants would be very helpful. Car reliability research
  9. Results updated again, and posted to the OP. Additioinal participants always helpful. Next set of results in February. Vehicle reliability research
  10. Updated results this week. Next update after that in November. Additional participants would be helpful, especially for the 2008 and 2009. Vehicle reliability research
  11. Same basic hardware, different software and ancillary bits.
  12. Next update in August, with a preview for participants next month. Additional participants always helpful. Vehicle reliability research
  13. Clad = plastic. But usually the wheel underneath is alloy, not steel. A few months ago I started distinguishing between "polished," "chrome," "chrome-clad," and "chrome-clad steel." Chrome rims have their own durability issues. I suspect a major reason chrome clad is often used is to reduce warranty claims, believe it or not.
  14. I've seen no evidence of common SERIOUS transmission issues, and I have hundreds of these involved in TrueDelta's research. Many reflashes to improve driveability, but this isn't a serious issue. The transmission hardware is the same as in the Edge. Widely varying fuel economy is usually a matter of different conditions and faulty measurement. These vehicles won't be seeing mid-20s except under the most ideal conditions. They weigh nearly 5,000 pounds. 10 MPG is certainly possible in true city driving. Again, the curb weight. You can view many reports on TrueDelta's detailed Fuel Economy Survey. 15. Thanks, I appreciate it. The latest results were recently posted. For the 2007, I reported results separately for the FWD and AWD. The former has a better than average repair rate. The AWD is much worse because of a single common repair, for a leaking PTU (which transfers power to the rear wheels). I don't have enough 2008s to know if they also have this problem. Need more participants for both years, but especially for the 2008. For the full set of results, and sign up to help (if you haven't already): TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results
  16. The 2008 will barely make it into the May results--with an asterisk for marginal sample size. So more are definitely needed, to get rid of that asterisk in August. More 2007s would also be helpful. Vehicle reliability research
  17. Still short on 2008s. Vehicle reliability research
  18. Different plates in the same state? That seems odd. Different treatment in different states would make more sense, since different states could have different rules of what counts as a truck.
  19. Posted those results in a separate thread. Looking to the next set, we're coming up short on participants for the 2008. Very much need more of those in the panel. More 2007s would also be helpful. For the details, and to help us provide better info on the Edge and MKX: Vehicle reliability research
  20. Flex pricing is a bit higher than I expected, and much higher than the Taurus X. They're aiming for a higher price point, so it's going to come down to the perceived quality of the interior and how much people like the exterior. I've entered pricing into TrueDelta's pricing database, to enable thorough comparisons for pricing and features: Car price comparisons
  21. Sounds like they just have people without any knowledge themselves providing semi-automated responses. Weak.
  22. The latest TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results have been posted. These are for the year ending December 31, 2007. For the 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, we received an average of 5.5 months of data on 54 cars. The stat of 69 successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year (0.7 per vehicle) is about average for a 2007 model. Not as good as some other Fords, but not bad for a first-year design. No result for the 2008 yet; need more participants for the current model year. We do already have results for some other 2008s, including the new Accord. Everyone who has been helping out with this research, thank you. Those who aren't yet helping out, please consider doing so. With larger sample sizes we'd be able to provide additional detail. Full set of results: TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results
  23. All manufacturers are going to have to get smarter with their built-in nav if they hope to compete with increasingly good and increasingly cheap portable units. Currently they charge a couple hundred dollars for an updated set of CDs. They're going to have to sort out a way to provide more frequent and less expensive updates, perhaps through a card slot so new info can be downloaded using a computer. This would also help the POI issue.
  24. Updated results in a week or so. As always, additional participants would help us provide even better results in the future.
