  1. Has anyone added an engine oil cooler to their Edge?

I'm thinking about adding one using a sandwich plate between the oil filter and engine.

I recently had an oil analysis that indicated oxidation.

One of the primary contributors to oxidation is heat.

Are there any technical issues with the engine oil pressure or flow that would/could be a problem?

  2. Very good instructions, good detail.

What is the torque value for the plugs and intake bolts?

I just replaced my spark plugs at 69756 miles with Bosch Platinum +4.

Torqued them to 12 ft/lbs., cleaned throttle body and looked at the intake valve stems/heads, clean with no deposits. shift.gif

The old plugs were .060+ should be .054 when new. happy%20feet.gif

  3. thanks for the positive feedback! the mkx has 63,500 miles.. its ovbious that there had not been a previous replacement of the spark plugs. the center electrodes were in decent shape, being platinum thats to be expected in a properly running engine.. the ground electrodes however were eroded away, and even with a cleaning and regap i would have not been convienced they were suitable for another 38K... so new plugs were used.

Will be performing other routine maintence here soon, will post some more how too's along the way. ~Andrew~

  4. I had found that in the cold, i.e. at or below freezing, IF I get into the Edge within about 10 minutes after showering my windshield will fog up from my body moisture. I reach in and start the engine, turn on the defroster on high fan and heat the seat. Then go out and scrape the windows. By the time I'm done with this there is some heat getting to the windshield. It seems to work here in NE PA (temporary job). Back to TX in a couple days. Thank God! dogwalk.gif

  5. 31-32 psi cuz the roads here in Michigan have to be some of the worst in the entire country. A little lower psi smooths her out a little and does not seem to effect mpg on the idiot gauge. I've been getting 26-28 on the highway and 22-24 mixed in my 2011 SEL FWD. I do use a few of Hypermiling tricks and they really do work.

Can you explain your Hypermiling tricks?

  6. Yeah, velcro actually sticks, but looks like a polished turd. It's alright. I moved the pod down to the side of the center console.

Oh yeah, and velcro on the windshield stuck, but over three days, it starded sliding down the glass and melting.

I didn't put the velcro on the windshield.

The velcro is used to hold black felt in place on the dash to eliminate glare.

Its covered so that the "polished turd" is covered.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. poke.gif

  7. Probably a LEFT FOOT braker.

I bet they got REALLY bad gas millage.

Our 08 has 47K miles (not km's) and does not need pads or rotors.

But I'm hard on the gas and easy on the brakes.

I'm a left foot breaker. My 2009 Edge has 58,000 on it now.

I check the brake pad thickness every time I rotate my tires.

I do not need brake pads yet. The factory pads have never been replaced.

OBTW I have never seen brake dust on the front wheels.

  8. I found the rear shock answer when I installed a trailer wiring harness.

The top of the rear shocks is accessed from behind the cargo area trim panels.

The panels do not have to be completely removed, i.e. rear seat belt attachment.

The cargo net attachments need to be removed, then pop the panels loose, then the top of the shock is accessible. happy%20feet.gif

  9. i would be~....

The dryer vent tube is 4 inches in diameter. The open end of the 4 inch vent takes a 90 degree bend down and is behind the fender liner, thus enough water intake is possible but not a concern unless the water level covers 7/8 of the tire. The air enters the air box BELOW the filter. ALL air entering the engine passes through the air filter.

The other air intake is about 2.5 inches and is behind the grill and could also provide a water intake path in a heavy downpour.

The air intake velocity in the 4 inch opening is considerably less than in the 2.5 inch opening. The larger the pipe the less the velocity to carry water with it. stirpot.gifpeelout.gif

  10. I found the top of the rear shocks while installing trailer wiring. happy%20feet.gif

Removal of the side panels in the cargo area reveals the tops of the shocks.

For some reason they are double nutted. This is the first time I have seen a factory installation like this.

Oh well thanks for all the mechanical geniuses who contributed to the question.stats.gif
