  1. A guy in Vancouver is selling the 11P update. He doesn't list prices so I won't say what I paid but it is a lot less than Ford wants. Here's the ad http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-auto-parts-tires-audio-GPS-Latest-GPS-navigation-DVD-CD-maps-disks-for-your-vehicle-W0QQAdIdZ420251611
  2. I think it's too bad Ford didn't link the access to navigation with the presence of a passenger. The airbag system knows if a person is riding shotgun so the Nav system should be active while in motion if you have a front seat passenger.
  3. I wonder if they have done a proper pricing evaluation on these upgrades. It seems like most people will skip or not upgrade at all rather than pay $200 for the update. I would think a lower price such as under $50 would get a lot more people upgrading and in the end produce even more revenue for Ford/Navteq. They should even look to the lifetime subscription model offered by Garmin for their portable devices. You pay up front or monthly or even yearly, but marketing would be something like for only $4 per month you can keep your maps up to date. The time and effort and cost has already been invested to create the map data. Selling more DVDs at lower cost would net more profit than not selling DVDs at all. In general, the reason people feel better about stealing software than hardware is that the copy is free. Yes, the content is costly and took a lot to create, but the copy is free. It costs Ford nothing when a person that WILL NOT PAY finds a copy somewhere. They haven't lost a sale nor do they have to produce new content or even a new DVD to replace the stolen one. ps are the 'used' ones on ebay also 'stolen' as the person selling may have installed from the DVD and is now re-selling that electronic content to someone else? Basically they are keeping the copy and selling the original at a discount.
  4. After more trips to the dealer and having them finally hook up the computer while it was malfunctioning they decided to replace the pinch strips. That did not work so they finally broke down and replaced the closer motor. So far, about 5 months, it's been working. Just annoyed it took that long for something that is that obvious. There were only two possible failure points so it should not have taken that long to resolve.
  5. There was mention of a TSB in the prior thread, but no one seems to have the number for it. If you know the TSB please let me know so I can tell the dealer and make sure they handle it.
  6. I am very frustrated with my power lift gate. The dealer cannot resolve the issue. They claim they cannot fix it until the vehicle acts up while hooked to the diagnostic computer. That's been next to impossible because it fails when I am far from the show room and have to manually close it to drive over. Once manually closed it is reset and works until the next time it fails which can be up to a month later. Even if they towed it I think they'd manually close the lift gate to get it over there. I'm not convinced the computer will tell them anything we don't already know - the door senses an obstruction when there is not one. Anyway, I created another post a few months back looking for solutions and so far there do not seem to be any. With this post I am not seeking a solution but I'm trying to understand if maybe my expectations are jut too high. Maybe what I am seeing as a major problem most other owners brush off as a minor quirk. They close the lift gate manually and just carry on.
  7. After a long battle with the dealer (even letting them drive it for two weeks while I drove loaners) they finally gave in and replaced it with another 2008 Edge. I've had it 4 days and today the same thing happened. Liftgate closes and then pops back open again. No obstructions no visible issues with the rubber stoppers or anything. Is it just my spiritual energy? Maybe the altitude or shape of the clouds? Seriously, are there just a few of us having this problem or is it more common but other drivers are shrugging it off?
  8. I had a very similar issue with a 2009 loaner from the dealer while my 2008 was in (again) for them to look at the lift gate problem. It would get stuck in various positions and I'd have to get my husband to pull it the rest of the way closed while I pushed the switch. The shades didn't work at all. I can't be much help though because they just swapped it out with 2010 loaner so I don't know if or how they resolved it.
  9. My 2008 with 45,000 kms has being doing this as well. It will close and then rebound as if it hit something but the area is clear. The dealer could not get it to happen and suggested keeping a log. It does seem to happen more often when it's cold outside than warm but so far there is no clear pattern. It will work great for a month and then refuse to close. I close it manually with disabling the power liftgate. I assumed since the power lifter provides no resistance that I could just close the door. I hope that is not damaging anything.
