  1. It was a French Canadian thing ----multiply by 9/5 and add 32.

I will guess that since so many of the applications can use the smaller filter can, there were economies of scale (lower material cost) to revise the FL-400 size.

BTW, the FL-1, FL-300 and FL-400 interchange (from a fit standpoint) if there is clearance. I bought some FL-300's on clearance from WallyWorld.

I went to buy an FL-1 for my old Chrysler & that one has been shrunk also. From what I saw on the shelves, it appears this is an across the board change.

  2. If you're still watching the thread, I have a 2007 Edge with 43K miles and only a burned wheel bearing as far as significant mechanical failures. I took it in twice (before the warranty expired) with the hard 1-2 upshift, no help from Ford. I have found that this just about always happens when the trans is cold. If you start moving slowly, then shift to neutral and goose the throttle, then shift back to Drive (before pulling out onto a major street), this will just about eliminate the harsh upshift. It won't work unless you are moving first, doing this while you are parked will not have an affect. My theory is that one or more of the check balls in the auto trans is not properly sized and binds up when the fluid is cold. Goosing the throttle seems to cause something to move into position and either allow fluid to flow or cause fluid to stop. Not a transmission guy so I don't know what actually happens, just that it works.

I have the harsh 1-2 upshift on my 07 MKX. The dealer reprogrammed it twice & it still does. Said they can't recreate the problem. Yet, I can get it to happen every day on the first cold upshift. Its fine after the first shift. If I pull out slowly & let it shift without giving it much gas, it shifts fairly smooth & will be fine after that. Very frustrating for a car that cost so much. Otherwise though, its been great.

  3. I had this same issue happen for the first time after owning my 08 Edge Limited for a year and a half. Previous to this I would occassionally hear fluctuations in the volume. Sometimes when I am starting off from a stop others when just driving. I'm thinking a possible short. Any other ideas or has this happened to anyone else?

The volume fluctuation is normal & can be adjusted several steps. Its to compensate for the greater noise level when driving. It comes up on the menu when adjusting the bass, treble, fader etc.

The radio has never shut itself off though.

  4. Yes the kit will be vehicle specific. Every car has a different suspension design, different bolts sizes and different alignment specs.

Don't wait a month to get an alignment. Your toe will almost certainly be off after lowering, likely enough to cause significant tire wear in a month. But it's sort of true that springs "settle", so ideally you'd do a second alignment a month later to dial it in.

I had H&R springs put on my MKX when I bought it. The dealer I bought it from installed them & did the alignment at the time of install. I don't know if they used a kit or not. I've had the car for nearly 3 years & no abnormal tire wear or other problems have occured. The springs do make the car ride a little stiffer, but the handling is increased noticably.

  5. Love the projector headlight. Cant stant the increased chrome grille. Hence why i replaced mine with a painted one.

My opinion the 4 cyl is a mistake:

For me, that is what set the Edge apart from the CX7. My brother bought the CX-7 and i was just about to. That turbo 4 just sounded way too loud and seemed to be working way too hard. There is NOT really any fuel savings. Turbos usually require premium fuel do to the higher compression engine (now they claim the CX7 can use regular). Thats way a Murano was also out of the picture. Well if i had the money i would of gone with a MDX and lived with the premium fuel.

If your going to burn fuel, dont puss out and throw in that Eccoboost 6 for the Edge Sport or make a SVT model!

The Edge also felt a lot bigger inside, had rear passenger vents and the reclining rear seats clinched, the deal. My major flaw was the lack of the entry assist handles up front. "Ohh shit handles"

I'd rather have a 6 cyl working at 60% than that turbo working at 90%.

But it is nice to see that an american car company finally learned to update the cars. Not like my old 2003 trailblazer that basically remained the same.

I tend to agree. These cars are just too big & heavy for an engine that makes less power then the current model. Most seem to feel the current 3.5 @ 265 hp is acceptable. I'm not so sure that will be the case with the I4. I've noticed that they clearly state the horsepower for the other 2 engines, but only say the I4 is comparable to a 3.0. That has to be at least 30 hp less then the current model.

  6. Am I the only one disappointed that the EcoBoost V6 with 365HP is not an option? I like everything theyve done, but I was really hoping at least the sport would have this new technology vs last years 3.7l.

I had hoped for this also. Looks like SHO when its time for me to trade.

  7. Thanks but can someone please tell me how to remove the glove box door. I don't have a string. I can press in the sides of the storage box to allow the top tabs to clear the side frame but the bottom remains hung up on something even after releasing the right hand bottom tab. Is there another tab to release like the one on the right?

I have an MKX, but I believe the door removes the same way. After squeezing the sides & the tabs on both sides are clear, wiggle the door while pulling upwards. I believe there are 3 tabs at the bottom. On the MKX, the door removes completely. I saw someone mention in anothe post that the Edge has a string on 1 side & the door hangs from the string after removing it from the bottom tabs. I've replaced my filter twice.

  8. It was great when you could stream XM online, I used it all of the time. When they stopped that I dragged my system to the office. I have had it on auto renewal all of these years and that is why I cancelled, did not want it to hit the card. I am using my old iPhone as an iPod in the office, just had to get a little set of speakers and I am all set. Will save money in years to come and I can load my own tunes, the ones I don't hear on XM anymore. 2009 was an expensive year for me and I felt this was one way to save a few dollars and still enjoy my tunes. If I still enjoyed the programming I probobly would have given in. I know XM is in financial trouble, another reason I did not want to drop $$ for a year of service and then lose it if they go under. I am just so mad at them for their unfair actions, borders on a scam.

This is what happens when your the only show in town. Things were much better when the 2 companies competed.

  9. I do have the switch in the correct position for auto operation. It has worked flawlessly for two years now. We only noticed it because the radio/odometer dimms when the lights come on, and it was diffficult to read the displays during the day, and they are on continously. I will look on the dash for the sensor. Is it easy to find?

    .

The sensor is the square thing on top of the dash between the defroster vents. If that's blocked, the lights will always stay on. I have a dash cover on mine & it shields it enough that the lights stay on longer then they really need to.

  10. I was actually looking to see if anyone has had issues with the washer nozzels breaking off; mine just fell apart but it doesn't seem to be a common issue.

I've replaced the washer nozzeles on my MKX. I had a few hail dents in the hood & the shop that fixed them broke one side. They glued it & it eventually fell apart. I broke the other side. I'm surprised this hasn't been an issue, since they are rather flimsy & brittle. The up side is they only cost around 5-6 dollars.

  11. If YOU want more power - fine, but that doesn't mean it's currently underpowered. Name a competitor that has significantly more power.

Underpowered is a subjective thing. They are OK in many situations. The time I find it a bit lacking is when driving around 50-60 in a situation where some quick power would be nice. Thats with just me or 1 passenger. I'm imagining its even worse with 3 passengers & a couple hundred pounds of gear in the back.

The Cadilac CTS has a 304 HP engine available. Sure its more money, but you can get it if desired.

  12. The MKT & MKX live in two different worlds. The are far apart in price, size & equiptment. The only real issue with the MKX is that it shares the same engine with the Edge. It seems that Lincoln is putting less emphasis on marketing the MKX these days. That's probably because its starting to fall behind its competition.

  13. OK,Spill the beans bbf. :finger: What will be the engine options for the 2010.5/2011 edge? :hyper:

I hope the engine options are better then they seem at this point. The Edge/MKX biggest flaw is they are somewhat under powered now. With the new engine being barely able to keep up, I see sales figures falling like a rock. The Edge Sport & the MKX should get the 3.5 EcoBoost to bring them into the 350 or so HP range if they plan on competing. If they insist on using the 4, put it in the base model.

  14. Lincoln went the opposite direction on this. They started with the Continental Cross Contact tires & got lots of complaints on those. Some even claimed the so so braking was partly the fault of those tires. Late in 07, they switched to the Michelins. Most seem to think the Michelins are quieter & get far more milage out of them.

  15. "Don't take someone's word for what they have done or what materials they have used. Check the oil level after service and look to see if they put on a new filter (I would mark the old one so I would know if they changed it or watch them do it.)" Why in the world would I pay money for something ONLY to verify it every time? If they are trained professionals, should they not do it correct? This is why I will do all the maintenance myself - because I know it is done correct.

Amazingly, stuff like this does happen. A number of years ago, my sister had a Taurus & brought it to Wal-Mart to have have an oil & filter change while she shopped. Well. she checked & it still had the same filter on as when it went in. She then checked the oil & it was filthy. They charged her & did nothing to the car.

Now, I don't know if it was deliberate or not. She said it was quite busy that day. The manager did give her a free oil change as well as a store gift certificate. So it is worth checking what a shop does just to be sure.
