  1. but reading the service manual there is 8 wires on it and 8 wires on the mkx switch as well. the mkx has illumination circuit and runs about $50 according to the dealer. can someone with an mkx verify is the seat memory switch silver or black the dealer cant tell. also you will need to pull the wires from the pins and reconfigure the wires for the mkx switch as the positions are different

    The switch is silver.

  2. I found what most of the issue was with mine. I brought it in to the dealer & told them it wasn't cooling sufficiently & was blowing out dust when it starts up.There is always dust all over the face of the dash & on the middle of the rear seat. They checked it & stated it pulled down to 45 degrees & no dust. Over the weekend, I figured out how the cabin air filter is removed. I checked it & it was plugged solid with debris. Its a wonder any air passed though it. I specifically asked the service rep if they checked that & he said they did. I like my dealership but now, I feel a little bit of mis trust. I guess that I'm not surprised that they can't find the transmission problem either.

I'm not going to name the dealership at this time, since a board member works there. I'll give them the benefit of doubt.

  3. As my brother works the line...... he says the Flex is impressive... he liked it... nice design and very sharp looking in the lots at Oakville..

Sounds like the real life version of the Flex might be more impressive in person than on paper...

You are so right. If I were to have answered this question a few days ago, I would have flat out said NO. I was at my local dealership yesterday (2nd time this week) getting the MKX serviced & checked out the cars while I was there. The Flex is FAR more impressive in person then you would ever think by looking at the pics. The one I sat in was an SEL,black with black leather. The interior is quite well appointed & very comfortable. The exterior I guess is either love it or hate it.

I spent a couple of hours online reading up on it. There is a long list of options for it. One it doesn't seem to have that would be nice is cooled seats. Heated seats are available though. Eco-boost would make it a real standout. Needless to say, my opinion has changed & I would concider buying one.

  4. I remember as a kid there was always a gas war between two towns that were 15 miles apart but both had refineries, Augusta, KS and ElDorado, KS. We had a 1967 Imperial with a 25 gallon tank. I can remember dad being near empty and filling it up with Ethyl, giving the guy a $5 bill, and getting change! Those were the days!!!! That car had been built for the governor of Missouri, who lost the 1966 election, and the Kansas City dealer then tried to sell it to the governor of KS, who rode in it in his inaugural parade in January of 1967. He bought a Lincoln and our local dealer happened to be at the KC dealer, saw the car, bought it and drove it home to dad's law office. Dad bought it on sight. That dealer had a knack of knowing exactly what car almost all of his cutomers would buy and when they would buy it. I worked as the detail kid and later as a car delvery person for that dealer when I was in high school. He sold a lot of cars for a small town rural KS dealer. That '67 Imperial LeBaron was all black and had a high performance spec 440 six pack in it. It would fly when you hit the gas. Virtually every surface in the interior was black leather. Milburn Drysdale had one that looked just like it in the Beverly Hillbillys. That was the first true luxury car we ever had.

I had a 63 Imperial. Gas was around $.35 a gallon at that time.

  5. Are we sure no shocks are needed? I really want the H&R springs but I don't want to mess up the shocks or the ride of the Edge.

I had H & R springs put on my MKX when I bought it. They didn't suggest getting different shocks & I didn't. It just hit 10K this week & no issues. The ride is a bit firmer, but the handling is far better. It also looks good being a bit lower then stock.

  6. If anyone knows about illuminated kick plates or sill protectors that are for the Edge, would you please post the information? I saw these on the new Murano and they looked great. Illuminate in red when the door opens. I think Hyundai also has something similar for the Veracruz. These really look great at night.

I think I saw these available on the MKS. Perhaps Ford will make them available for the Edge & MKX.

  7. Hi PrinzII. :D I am not 100% sure, but I believe the Edge does not have a Cabin Air Filter. There is no part# listed for an Edge Cabin Air Filter in the Manual. I called my local Ford Dealer Parts Department, and they are not sure either. While they show a part# listed, they say they have none in stock, have never sold any, and believe a changeable filter was planned but never added to the Edge.

What is known is that the Edge/MKX use the same basic HVAC system as the Fusion/Milan/MKZ and they do not have a Cabin Air Filter.

Although the Edge/MKX (like the Fusion/Milan/MKZ) Owners Manuals have a section labeled "Cabin Air Filter (if equipped)", it seems it may have been a planned but deleted feature. Keywords being "if equipped".

Almost all Ford Owners Manuals are printed with that information, whether the vehicle is equipped with one or not. Just a catch all section. Therefore the "if equipped" warning.

Still, it can't hurt to ask the Service Department. Let us know what you find out.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

I asked my service rep about the filter when I had the MKX in for the cold shift issue wjth the transmission. He wasn't even sure where the filter was supposed to be. He was looking under the hood. He thought that there was one, it was an option.

I removed the glove box door the other day & there is indeed a pleated paper filter on top of the box. I found that surprising, since quite a bit of white dust comes out of the center vents. One day, I noticed a lot of dust in the middle of the rear seat. Didn't realize then where it was coming from. When I get a chance, I'm going to open up the filter box & see what it looks like in there.

  8. Wouldn't have happened if you simply turned your head to the left and looked over your shoulder.

I do that also, but since the tint is so dark on the rear windows, its difficult to see quickly. There is an off ramp just beyond where I get onto the highway & much of the traffic is trying to squeeze right to take that while those getting on are trying to squeeze lef to get away from them.

  9. Personally, I feel that having a warning on the startup screen that says not to operate the nav system manually while driving would be enough. Unfortunately, many juries do not and the vehicle mfrs stand to lose millions in a lawsuit.

While I fully agree with your reasoning, what about if someone pulls over to the side of the road because something happened with the NAV & the driver is afraid of getting lost. In doing this, he gets in an accident & blames the manufacturer because he couldn't reset it or have a passenger do so while moving? I think this would stand a shot at winning in court.

I feel that a warning is enough. Much like seatbelts, there are chimes & blinking lights & messages staring back at you to remind you. Also, they are law in most places. Yet, you cannot force people to use them if they choose not to.

  10. That feature is useful if you've left the highway far off the shoulder or in trees/bushes or gone down an embankment. There are lots of stories of people trapped in wrecked vehicles near a busy highway for days because they could not be seen. Rare, but it happens. Besides - what can it possibly hurt?

Toyota is making a lot of noise with this feature. The MKS also has it. However, Ford is wise enough to remind people that the system may not function after a severe crash.

  11. We've had several 95 degree days in Atlanta with no problems. When the outside air is 90 or above you should definitely use recirculate.

We've never had to keep the fans on high more than 5 or 10 minutes even on the hottest days.

I'm wondering if there is a sensor that tells the system when to run colder? I know that when Chrysler came out with the Autotemp in the late 60's, there was a sensor behind the dash to regulate the output. I've noticed a couple of times that the air started to get cooler very suddenly after having to apply the brakes quickly, then accelerating rapidly.

  12. I really hate the headrests in my MKX and really miss the headrests from my BMW.. The reason being the BMW headrests tilt forward from the top and the MKX dont tilt either way! My mercedes tilted as well, but from the bottom, which I always hated (traded it a while ago for the MKX :) )

Anyone have suggestions out there for head rests that tilt forward but from the top like a bimmer?

The DVD headrests tilt forward. However, mine won't stay in a raised position any longer.

  13. I live in Phoenix and the AC is flat out not designed properly. You should be able to feel the air coming out of the vents, the same manner as how a fan works in your home. It doesn't make it cooler but you feel cooler.

It's ridiculous that I have to put the ac on max to feel the slightest air movement. I have owned a dozen Fords in my life and rarely if ever used the max setting. With my Edge it's always on and it's still inadequate.

I live in Phoenix also & it was 116 this afternoon. It was barely comfortable after a half hour operation. This morning when it was 88, it was cold within 10 minutes.
