Sarnano
I just had Uhaul install a trailer hitch on my 2011 Edge. Should there be a heat shield above the rear muffler on the '11? I've seen older posts discussing modifications of the heat shield to fit the hitch. I suspect that my installer did not re-install the shield, since I don't see anything there. wlepse
There are heat shields on both sides
Sarnano
..... thanks. I know their are 2 heat shields for th 2010 and older, but the 2011 has a single muffler. I just want to make sure it was equipped with a heat shield before i chase down Uhaul
wlepse
Well I know our 2011 has two but we do have two mufflers. This variation in the muffler design is what can make hitch fit an issue. Maybe someone that has a single muffler can confirm.
cjd3
I was checking my exhaust area because I too will be installing a hitch. And yes, there are 2 heat shields, one on each rail, on my single muffler 2012. I would be livid if they forgot to put them on mine.
wlepse
Very strange...I don't even remember taking mine off. I am pretty sure I just used tin snips with it mounted. Not sure why they would have removed it to begin with.
Sarnano
Well, as I write this the Uhaul shop is re-installing the 2 heat shields. I call them yesterday and the mechanic said "You don't need them anyways". Then he was quick to offer to reinstall them. Amazing. The guy knew he was wrong, and got bagged! The factory installed them for a reason is my feeling. Good thing I checked.... I was curious to see how the hitch was mounted, and noticed the shields were missing. I knew somehthing was wrong because I reviewed a video af few days back (pondering doing the job myself) showing the installation, and the trimming of the shields.
