JRB Posted March 8, 2013 Report Share Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) I have a whining noise of some sorts that gets louder when I accelerate. The only time I can tell it does this other than accelerating has been going down a hill. I had thought this was possibly the power steering belt. I had it replaced along with the drive belt and the noise quit, but now after a few months, the noise has returned. I had a dealer check it out and I was told it was a bearing in the transmission. I thought it was strange that the noise went away when I had the belt replaced and now it is back. The vehicle is an ALL-wheel Drive 08 Edge. Does anyone have any idea? I have noticed the sound on most AWD vehicles i drive too. I think it s a normal noise caused by the front drive train. RWD vehilces whine but you usually cant hear it due too the exahust and distance from the drive. If you can hear it, its bad. If it were to be the belt assembly or PS pump it would be RPM or load dependent not speed dependent. Speed dependent points me to something behind the motor. If its too loud keep gettign it checked on. (*im not a ford tech and can not be held liable for the information in this post.
