indymike
Recently purchased a used 2011 Edge SE. Whenever starting the vehicle, the tach, speedometer, and fuel gauge do a full calibration swing before returning to correct reading. The Edge replaced an 02 Explorer and the only time the gauges did this on the explorer was after the battery was disconnected and reconnected. Also the climate control ( SINGLE ZONE MANUAL CLIMATE CONTROL ) turns on when ever the vehicle is started. This occurs even if the controls were off prior to turning off the vehicle. They seem to default to the last previous setting. Still have not figured out the value of the traction control. ( Front wheel drive model...not AWD ) Some thoughts.... Overall nice vehicle, runs great with PLENTY of power and acceleration. Rides and handles very nicely. Sure would be nice to see full instrumentation. Voltmeter, oil pressure, temp . Thanks, Mike
Waldo
The gauge sweep is a "welcoming" feature and is totally normal.
indymike
Welcoming feature....that's funny. There are some things on these late model cars that are just goofy. I think the engineers do some things just because they can ( technology ).
ls973800
It's actually a test mode the gauges go through to insure they are working properly. I don't know exactly what would happen if one of the gauges fails the test, but I am sure it would let you know somehow. Perhaps by being pegged at either end?
