New member here,

I'm in West Jordan,UT

Always loved the edge but never had one..well the head gaskets in my wife's explorer have gone out and rather then swapping a long block in it, we are just going to get a edge that we both want..

I know with the explorers they have that POS sealed tranny and head gasket problems ect..

Is there anything like that I need to be aware of with the edge?

Apart from obvious stuff is there anything I need to look out for in terms of problems?

We are currently looking at a 08 edge limited with 87k miles that's $14k

Good deal? Thanks!

Welcome to the community! Are you looking at a FWD or an AWD? If AWD, the additional item to look out for is PTU-related, specifically the PTU/axle seal leak and burnt out PTU fluid. Would advise PTU fluid change at that mileage.

Other things specific to the Edge:

Battery

Door latch (usually front driver side)

Panoramic sun roof - may stop working; it it is slow to operate, needs to be maintenanced

PCM - calibration up to date

Brakes - brake pedal

If you can get a CPO, so much the better, just so you have time to figure everything out.

Awesome, thanks.

Not sure if it's AWD or not, add just says 4x4 but looks like changing that seal isn't to big of a job if it is leaking.

I am so so so glad it has a serviceable transmission...you want to do something really frustrating and messy and sure to piss you off to the point of insanity? Service a sealed "non serviceable" trans in a newer explorer lol.

Unfortunately, they don't make it easy to service the transmission (or the fuel filter) in the Edge. Other than filling/draining the trans, you pretty much have to crack it open to do major work OR replace the trans filter. HOWEVER, the transmission has been quite reliable, though I don't know if I'd wait till 150,000 miles to change the fluid. Better to check at every OCI.
