rding
I bought a new Ford Edge Sport (2.7 L EcoBoost) for less than a year. Currently it is only about 7k mileage on it. two month back I started to hear brushing noise coming out of my rear right underneath the car. It sounded a brush constantly touch the metal with occasional slight clickings. The noise is audible when going over 40 mph and would disappear when slowing down to 35-40 mph. On highway it sounds louder. what has frustrated me is it does not happen all the time. it went away for about a month before recurring. So to sum up, the noise - goes on intermittently - doesn't relate to weather/temperature changes - does not occur under 35 mph - once it's on it's continuous until dropping speed to below 35 mph. When speeding up again it returns. Can someone point me to what could be causing this noise? I scheduled a service checkup but am worried the problem may not be reproducible at dealer shop. thanks. akirby
My guess would be something is loose and getting caught in the wind. Did you look under the rear? You could try using a leaf blower to simulate wind at speed.
omar302
Check this thread if it is the same issue.

At best they guessed there might be a loose piece of plastic cover so they replaced it. But the noise still exist.
Gerrett50
Have you had any luck with this? I am at 19,000 miles and am experiencing the exact problem you're describing

The difficulty is that when i scheduled a dealer visit two weeks in advanced that's usually when the problem was just on set. By the time the appointment is near or due the freaking issue disappeared. Ford service mode really requires any problem that must be persistent for at least 2 wks. Lately the brushing noise seemed to morphed into an annoying full car shattering and "mouse clicking", not very loud but audible enough to be distracting. if you have any idea plz let me know. Gerrett50
Currently at the dealer, ruled out brake pads and turned the rotor and said it was still making the noise. Now they say the rotor may be warped and is rubbing. They're going to put a new one on and drive it again. If that doesn't solve it they are moving onto CV joints. Will update later today

When I left today I got a call and they said they think it is a wheel bearing. Going to find out in the morning if they're correct this time

Good luck with find it out. Well, turns out it wasn't the wheel bearing. Now they are saying it is an Axel Seal coming from the rear diff to the rear passenger. Hopefully 4th guess is the charm
rding
Any luck Gerrett? i had mine checked a week ago and they changed RDU claiming they found a matching Ford article about the same problem. It was a miss. Brushing noise returned intermittently. The chattering noise has gone so wild to the point that i can't tolerate. It's persistently distracting like hell. Yet dealer claim they heard NOTHING. Will bring it in two weeks again. My gut feeling we're heading to a dead end.
