worldpanama
Has anyone with a 2019-2020 ford edge tried to put the new Ford Edge 12 inch display in your vehicle. Was wondering if it was possible to swap the 8 inch for the 12 inch factory. Upgrading Sync 3 to Sync 4. They have lot of them for sale on eBay wanted to know if it was compatible with the older generation? Has anyone done this yet? enigma-2
According to Ford it can't be done. Currently, there is no way to upgrade your vehicle’s current infotainment system to SYNC® 4, as it is exclusive to newer models like the upcoming 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and 2021 Ford F150. Of course that means war, and several have looked into doing this. No one has yet succeeded. Companies that offer kits to upgrade existing Sync systems, (such as Infotainment), do not offer any upgrades for Sync 3 to Sync 4, for the Edge. They do have a Sync 3 to 4 kit for the F150, but it still uses the 8" screen and you lose some existing functions in doing the "upgrade". ($1200 with navigation.) There's been a lot of discussion about doing the Sync 4 upgrade in the F150 forum, with most being dissatisfied with losing navigation upgrades,, Hotspots and the like. There's a huge amount of changes in relation to the 12" screen vs the 8". {Abandon all hope, all who enter here}
Loooney2ns
I know this is an old thread(I didn't want to start a new one), but has anyone attempted this? Or if not a complete upgrade, how about just the display? I know tat the Sync 4 8.46 inch screen will work, but I'm interested in having the 12 inch screen. Obviously, it will physically fit, but I don't know if it will work.
Wubster100
The maximum screen size for SYNC 3 is 10in. So, you can’t just change the display. You would have to change the APIM (to SYNC 4) and the display. As a 2021 owner with SYNC 4, the only advantages I see are a much larger display, and wireless CarPlay / Android Auto. However, the screen size for the rear camera does not increase that much compared to the 8in SYNC 3. And wireless CarPlay / Android Audio can be achieved by using an adapter. You will loose the FCIM, so no hard climate control buttons. And I think you also lose the IPC climate control repeater (I haven’t figured out how to make it work.) Is it possible to upgrade? Yes, many owners of other Ford models have experimented with installing SYNC 4 into SYNC 3 vehicles. It is definitely possible to install and get SYNC 4 to at least power on, but it’s not guaranteed for every single feature to be operational. There is a chance that many features will not work correctly, like climate control, software updates, navigation, etc. Edited October 8 by Wubster100
Loooney2ns
Maybe I'll just get the 8.46 inch Sync 4 screen. It works just fine with Sync 3.4, and is higher resolution than the current one.
