Bluebie Posted October 10 Report Share Posted October 10 (edited) Hi there, I have a 2016 Titanium AWD with the 2.0L Ecoboost with 115,000 miles. Yesterday, I noticed a strange noise happen while the engine is on, it sounds like a whirring "rrrrrr" noise that gets louder/higher pitched with increased rpms. Honestly reminds me of a string trimmer type sound. This happens at standstill and driving, and in neutral, drive, and park. The engine rpms seem to not want to increase past 2k, and when they do, the rpms bounce up to 4K then back down below 2K, and it feels jerky almost like a mis-shift. Here is a short video: There are no check engine lights or codes, and the only other oddity is I hear a clicking noise coming from what I believe is the high pressure fuel pump near the top of the engine. About 3 days after this the car lost power while driving and I had to get it towed.Took it to the dealership for them to inspect for a cracked flexplate, which has a technical service bulletin posted. They looked in the guts and said the flexplate was fine-- but that the transmission needed to be replaced ($6k). This seemed like a good time to get a second opinion, so I took it to a local transmission shop. The funny part is I was able to drive it the 5 minutes there, and it seemed okay. They took it for a test drive and said no issue, super weird as the dealer had just said the whole transmission needed replaced. We changed the transmission fluid (not flush just drain and fill) which was very dark. Car seemed to be fine. After about 2 weeks though again lost power while driving and started making a horrible grinding noise as soon as it was in Drive, reverse didn't engage, etc. Had it towed again to the local shop and replaced transmission for $4.5k. Been driving for 3 weeks with no issue so far. During this time I had a lot of chats with tow truck drivers 😅 and have decided that I won't be buying another Ford. They just aren't reliable. He suggests on Ford Edge and Escape, and similar drive trains - Bronco Sport for instance - that the transmission fluid be drained and filed at a minimum of 40,000 miles. You could do the flush and fill I suppose. I do this to our Ford Edge Sport and Acura TL. Honda/Acura is in the same boat. Do you know if your (now) replaced transmission ever had the fluid drained/filled and/or flushed? Just curious as a data point. I never performed any fluid service as I was still under the recommendation for service miles. The service manual suggests you can go much longer without, but I see now that is very optimistic.
