enigma-2
A hesitation has been reported in other forums after a software update. Seems the update is the cause. BTW, before buying new tires, make certain you have identified why one tire was in such bad shape (IE tie rod, ball joint, etc.)
w102acd
I did a factory reset of the settings and did a software update. This seems to have resolved the problem for the trip around the block. Hoping it stays away! Thanks for the advice of the software update and I did some other reading that the car learns the driving habits and adjusts accordingly. We bought this from my MIL and my son was driving it. Perhaps the car learned the habits of a grandma and had a hard time adjusting to a teenager? 1

w102acd
Well...the problem came back. I'm going to do a transmission fluid change (3 times) to see if I can fix the issue. I'm also going to go in and delete the transmission adaptive tables with FORScan. I also figured out that one of the tires was two years older than the rest which hopefully didn't cause any of the current issues we're having. We just got a new set of tires the other day. I haven't driven it a ton since this started, but the shifting issue gets better after longer drives and completely goes away after a 15 minute highway drive and then back on surface streets. It also shifts better if you drive more aggressively through the 25-45 mph range. Not exactly sure what this means, but perhaps the transmission fluid is gunked up and gets more fluid as it heats up? In which case less gunked up fluid will help. Fingers crossed! I did some more searching on the internet and it seems like the torque converter (shudder) is a common problem on these transmissions and seems to match the symptoms. w102acd
I changed the transmission fluid (3 times) and that really didn't do much of anything to improve the problem. However... Deleting the transmission adaptive tables made a huge difference! It's been a little while now and everything is good. My wife's Explorer was also having some shifting oddities (not as bad as this Edge) and deleting the tables on it cleaned those up as well. I'm calling it a win for now! Until the next problem, thanks for the help!
w102acd
I finally got around to updating the PCM and AWD module firmware. Thanks Haz for the recommendation and help several months ago. I was working on my wife's explorer and bought a Mongoose-Plus cable for that work and got a 2 day subscription. FDRS worked fine and I was able to update all of the Explorer's module firmware pretty easily. The 2019 Edge still uses FJDS and it is not nearly as user friendly. I went to update the modules and it would tell me the module updates exist and even give me the current and latest versions with files, but wouldn't download them. So I went to Ford and downloaded them. I tried to put them in several locations for FJDS to find them, but couldn't seem to find the right spot. I punted on FJDS and went to FORScan Beta version with a paid subscription. FORScan also showed no available updates since 2018 which I knew wasn't right. So I took the downloaded updates and put them in the FORScan calibration file folder. FORScan didn't seem to recognize the files as a newer version for the PCM so I had to load the newer version as "custom" (which I was very hesitant to do. So after ensuring I have the existing firmware downloaded, I proceeded and everything went just fine. Note on FORScan custom loading - when you "test SBL" it automatically goes back to the latest automatic update so you have to reload the custom files and then "program". I also reset the adaptive transmission tables while I was there. Both my son and I have driven it a little since then and we both claim it is better than ever. No hard clunk into gear when you shift and the shifting seems smoother especially when you drive it hard. My son said it used to be terrible when you got on it shifting and surging really bad and that is completely gone. A couple questions: Is there place for the DIYer to go to look for module firmware updates? For the Edge, I basically needed FJDS to tell me what had updates, but couldn't do the updates in FJDS so had to use FORScan. I actually prefer FORScan over FJDS and probably even FDRS). So short of buying a 2 day subscription (for $120), I have no way of knowing which ones if any have module updates. Perhaps this car is old enough that module updates aren't really happening anymore. The edge has the 8F57 transmission and I can't figure out if I need to update the transmission solenoid strategy or not. Does anyone have any information on that?
