Oil cap

When getting my oil changed on my 2022 Edge, the technician said that the oil cap must be replaced every time to ensure a good seal. I’ve been told this at two different shops. The second one replaced the same cap, but advised that I should get a new cap at the next oil change. I’ve noticed a bit of oil has leaked on to my driveway. My question is, does the cap actually need to be replaced at every oil change?

I'm going to assume they mean the plastic drain plug in the oil pan. I've had my same one since 2019, but they also do leak I hear. If they're talking the oil cap (the part where you fill the oil from) there is an o-ring on there and it's the only thing that would leak, but I don't think it would be enough to leak on the driveway so it's probably not that.

It looks like there is an updated design of the drain plug:

Welcome.

Could you post a photo of the oil cap you're referring to.

It would be best to take a look and confirm where the leak is coming from.
