How are the seat inserts holding up?

Recommended Posts

I just got my edge sport 12 days ago, so I don't have a much of a track record with the seats yet. To prevent long term stains, I put two coats of Scotchgard on the inserts. The spray didn't do any harm to the seats, and they have about the same feel they had before; maybe they have a bit more grip now.

I've had my sport since the beginning of July and have had no issues. The inserts seem really durable to where my early worries of it getting easily messed up are gone. Alcantara is used in BMWs and Mercedes also and their owners seem to be very pleased with it after years of use.

Which type of Scotchguard did you use? There are a few, and I am just trying to determine which one. I will probably do a coat every month or so.

Very true.

Alcantara has been used in Audi for years now and I have personally seen many Audi s4's with over 100k miles and flawless Alcantara interior. If you take care of them you shouldn't have issues.

I wish Ford offered a black Alcantara rather than the gray.

Here are some Audi examples.

I have an '03 Cobra w/ the Alcantara inserts...I was not sure how well they'd hold up over the years. 7'ish years later, they look as good now as they did when I bought the car. Mine have not had fabric protector put on them, and are easy enough to clean (using a fabric cleaner). Personally, I would not worry about the Alcantara...think you'll be fine.

When I learned back in '03 that Ford was putting Alcantara in the Cobra, at first I thought it was a cost savings thing. I now agree with what I was told about the Alcantara; it holds the driver in the seat better.

Good luck...
