Edge in Colombia, South America

Hi all,

I am new to the forum. I found this forum during the last days doing a search over the internet to check for ways to adapt a hitch mount and a bike carrier in my new 2009 Red Fire Ford Edge Limited. I liked very much the discussions on this and other subjects, and also to see the pictures gallery of Edge owners. They give me a lot of ideas for future upgrades.

I am enjoying driving the Edge since last August, and I must say it has been a complete pleasure. I have looked around for more than a 1 year before I decided to get the Edge. It was worth all the searching and waiting to save money and get it. Wife, family and pet are happy too. The Edge is great on the roads of Bogotá and handles very well the widespread bumps on the roads here. The SYNC system is great and handles reasonably well my iPod. The phone feature of SYNC is sensational. I am still using few features of the SYNC and hope to learn more as I get used to it. The panoramic roof is absolutely great and gives the Edge a completely fresh and luminous interior. The leather upholstery feels great. The interior light kit gives the Edge a funky flair.

Ford brings the Edge from Canada to Colombia, since 2007. Initially this car was not very much common on the roads, but nowadays it is becoming more popular, has it has a price tag below many direct competitors, such as the Murano, and offering similar or better overall package. The looks also help! In Colombia the only version available of the Edge, until now, is the Limited. The only interior colour available, as far as I know, is ebony. The external colours are the same as the ones available in the US.

I thought the Edge would be a more fuel addicted car, but I am quite surprised that the 3,5L engine consumes in a moderate way. Perhaps it can be by the way I drive it, since I do not stump to much on the accelerator (once in a while yes, because it is great to feel the power of the car). Being a European citizen, I was worried about this due to the high prices of petrol in Europe. In Colombia, petrol is not as expensive as in Europe, but still, I prefer to have to spend low on gasoline. The board computer shows consumptions of 13-14L/100Km (~20-17 MPG) in the city, and 9-11L/100Km (~26-22 MPG) on main roads and highways. I am doing a control by myself to check if these values are correct. On this matter, I found on e-bay a gas saver insert (http://cgi.ebay.com/...sQ5fAccessories) which I am thinking about getting to save a bite more on fuel (see picture below). Does anyone knows or have experience if these inserts work on the Edge to save fuel? Apparently they work by creating a turbulent air input into the engine, which improves the mixture with fuel yielding a better combustion efficiency.

Well, I am pleased to be part of this forum and it will be great to exchange experiences of my Edge with other Edge owners.

See you soon.
