  1. Thank you GatorCat, I share the same exact thoughts as you. You think I want to drive my car when the Speedo is stuck at 220km?!? I have to wait for it to come down when it finally decides to so I can put it in drive...what's next, the car accelerating by itself. I don't need this crap with my little girl in the car.
  2. Maybe pulling ALL the Edges off the roads is a little much, but not by a lot. Anyway you look at it, hardware issues are dangerous, regardless of what it is. There is important info that gets displayed on this cluster and for that to be completely gone is a safety hazard. The 8" screen holds mainly Navi, Radio, Phone, I could live without that and not feel like the car is at risk, granted the climate controls being lost would piss me off but I would still have them for defrost, temp and speed below the screen. The cluster is a different story, this doesn't display non essential features (ok maybe the right side but Im talking about the left one mainly), it stores key features to the functionality of your car, and Ive now lost all of that, so Im not sure if Im over reacting since there wont be a fix earlier than April - May, latest June. Would you drive you car worrying about when you should stop to fill up on gas? Always wondering what your level is at and stopping for gas just to fill up to make sure youre not lower than you think you are? Maybe my 4 hour drives on the weekend will more entertaining when we all play the guessing game and take turns guessing how long before the car will stall from running out of gas? I spoke to the tech reg. the APIM, I know it been a common problem on this forum and i spoke to him about what Ive read here and so forth, but that has always been geared more towards the 8" module that was crapping out on people. After he looked into the possibility of it being a faulty APIM, and speaking with Ford techs, he was assured that it was not related to the APIM and that this is a totally different problem all together. They know how to fix the 8" screen break down, simply change the APIM, this they don't know what is causing it and why they are failing. Even people here are not seeing this issue (yet) and it seems fairly new, at least to me, the folks on here, and my dealer. For the bulletin to come out this week, it has to be an issue that has started recently and getting much attention. The bulletin was released this week, again detailing the exact problem I have so yes it is the same problem I have, and as per the memo, unlike changing the APIM in the 8" screens which fixed the problem, it says that changing the cluster will NOT resolve the problem as they have obviously tried this already and from the bulletin, I gather they are all faulty since they say switching the cluster will not resolve this problem. The problem is properly identified, and no one will even attempt a fix until Ford finds what is causing this and how to deal with it, especially when the techs are telling the dealer not to touch anything right now, the dealer wont go against this and put them at fault.
  3. Well, that's what I am going to start looking into on Monday with consumer protection and see where it takes me. I love the Edge, still my favorite truck on market right now, rides great, looks amazing, and the interior is stunning. However, the new Touch is flawed, defective and unreliable and when the cars continue to die where access to heating o fuel, temperature or warnings are going out, we have a problem. Ford knows about the problem and must have tons of complaints on hand with this new problem to issue an advisory. If I left on my planned vacation and this happened, I'd be 2400 km's away from home with no access to fuel levels or even knowing any important info / problems pertaining to the car...if this could happened, who knows what problems could have happened driving in 12 hour batches strait and me not being go see it. I am pissed off, yes, but I love the Edge, I just don't want this flawed 2011, I would rather wait until the problems are fixed this year an get a 2012 with most of the mess cleaned up not people ripping my dash apart to replaces broken clusters, body modules and software upgrades constantly. Do I really have a case? Why are they not pulling these cars off the road when entire dashes are blanking out for tons of people at any given time and it's obviously dangerous.
  4. Lastly, A service bulletin issued on Feb 2nd, 2011, 1 day after my car died acknowledging the problem. They will need to change the entire cluster eventually!!! WTF?!?!?! Recall....AGAIN!!!

  6. Ok, So, after I left, they took my Edge in right away to get started on it. About 2 hours later, I got a call from the dealer and it started like this "Tony...I don't have good news for you..." I told him, don't worry, I already know, just tell me how long before it's fixed. He went over the conversation he had with tech support and their "email" correspondence and man was he in disbelief. Not only is the 8" screen full of crap with its bug, freezes, reboots, slowness and all the other crap people have been experiencing, then the V2.4 update to try and resolve them, now the 2 4" LCD screens are starting to crap out on A LOT of Edge's, MKX's, and Explorers!!!!! My dealer has not seen this yet, but from what he told me, the issue is huge and Ford is seeing it happen more and more, you just don't know when it's going to be your turn! Personally, I don't want this car anymore, I am ready to give it up and move on. Is it a lemmon, prob not, but the software is no where even close to being ready for release and there is to much risk in owning this car with the programation being this untested and unstable. I am calling Ford on Monday and the next call will be consumer protection to see what my rights are. Why you ask... I have no access to how much gas I have, I don't know if my car is overheating, I don't know if there are any "warnings" or messages on the LCD screen. I was driving in the middle of the night and my entire car went BLACK! I have a 2 year old baby in the car with me each day and each time I start my car now, I worry something is going to happen. Here's the kicker boys and girls, I was told that I need to continue driving my car LIKE THIS, even though it's not ideal, and for me personally, not safe, and I was told that it could take as long as JUNE for a fix AND NO RENTAL CAR!!!!!!!! Ford is fully 150% aware of the problem and won’t pull these cars off the road, it could happen to anyone at anytime, they know that, acknowledge that, and are letting people drive these things! I almost drove from Montreal to Florida last week and if this happened when I just showed up there, I don't know what I would have done. Don't get me wrong, i adore my car, love it to death, but am sick to my stomach over everything going on so far. MY first new car, very expensive, and i have yet to feel confident about my purchase. That is a terrible feeling. Here are some documents I received from my dealer today, sit back and enjoy!!!!!   7. Tried uploading the video last night, it crashed almost at the very end and did not take, will try again after work. Brought car into dealer this morning and they came out to look at it with me. The screens were still dead and the Speedometer is freezing when it does it's "reset" upon start up. When you start the car, the needle goes all the way up and once it touches the max speed it comes strait back down immediately. Since my screen black out, the needle gets to the max speed and freezes there for anywhere from 20 seconds up to a minute. The dealer also so this so they are aware of the issues right now. Saw 2 techs there and they have yet to see this happen to any of their Edge's so this seems to be a first..just my luck lol. Will keep everyone posted! Tony
  8. No, I did not change out the APIM, it just went in for the 10B20 Recall that most people are getting done, like the upgrade you are doing tomorrow. Honestly, after getting it done, I didn't see any difference besides I finally have my Navigation in KM instead of Miles. Other than that, mine is still really slow. I agree, I also think there are 2 big issues people are dealing with, either hardware, or software, or both, but I definitely think they are separate issues all together. Well, flickering may have been the wrong choice of words on my part possibly...it would go on and off every 30 seconds or so, and the intervals would change from a few minutes to a few seconds before it completely died. Flickering makes me think of very fast / rapid on / offs and it wasn't like that. Grounding issue, not so sure, it looking like the module was just dying out slowly until it finally crashed and died. Well, it has not come back on in 2 days, and I took a little video of it not working which I am in the midst of uploading but it's so damn slow! I will also try to upload the video from my iphone showing the on / off happening which I also have footage of. Didn't make it to the dealer tonight, will be there at 7am tomorrow and leaving the car there for the day. I hope it stays off so they can see the problem first hand and figure out why it won’t turn on rather than it come on by fluke and them not know what to do next since it's working again. If video finishes uploading soon, i will post it later, if not, it will be tommorow. I'll keep everyone up to date as I find out the details of the repair. Tony
  9. Glad I saw this thread! My dealer had to replace the passenger side complete HID housing as it was scratched up pretty bad upon delivery. After they installed the new casing, i drove somewhere to see if they were lined up equally and the new light was slightly higher than the drivers side after doing a compare against the wall. The dealer said these lights do not have an vertical adjuster when I asked about it. So, by turning this screw, I can actually lower or raise the HID beam so they are once again at equal level right? Thanks!!

  11. LOL Wilsons, If you haven't seen or read of this, then it must be an oddity! Did my day care run this morning and not it will not come back on at all. Just got off the phone with the dealer and they haven't seen this problem yet either. They need me to take the car in to them so I will do my best to do so after traffic dies down tonight around 7:30pm and leave it for them tomorrow morning. This is a huge inconvenience as I need my car to get to and from the day care twice a day my only means of transport. They wont even give me a car at no charge as they say I needed to buy the extended warranty to be eligible for this Wow, let the problems begin

Wow, after thinking I was one of the "lucky" ones to have no problems yet with my car, after 4000 KM's it has finally caught up to me Car is a 2011 Limited, built around the last week of October. While out driving last night, everything was running fine until I stopped into a store to pick something up. When I got back in and started it up, all started up fine but my 2 4" LCD screens on either side of the speedometer would not turn on anymore. I was about 45 minutes away home when this happened so basically started going home beyond mad and about 5 minutes into my drive they came back on...temporarily that is. They came on, and then turned right off. They continued to go on and off, on and off, for about 10 minutes and then started flickering at times and eventually would not come back on anymore. Each time they came back on you could tell it was resetting itself like I was just turning on the car, it wasn't like it had kept the memory and just came back on e.g. like a light was burnt or something. I got about 3 blocks from my house and it finally came back on. I had my Iphone 4 with me while it was happening so i recorded about 5 minutes of it doing this but it was late out and on highway with no lights, it's a little dark. Funny, when it would come back on during the flickering, not all "functions" seemed to be working correctly e.g. 2 degree difference from main 8" screen compared to 4" and stuff like no info as to what i was listening to on Serious Radio even though the info was there on the 8". When it came back on for good towards the end, everything was back to normal and was matching the 8" screen. Today, hoping it was a once in a lifetime fluke, I got in the car to pick my daughter up from daycare and all was working fine....for the first 20 minutes. I got to my location, left the car running as I went to pick up the little one and when I got back, they were dead again and stayed off the entire ride back home Oddly enough, I did the Gen 2 V2.4 last Tuesday so just over a week ago today, along with the test for the faulty body module that was also recalled. Was hoping to see what the remedies are for this before I call back the dealer so that I can tell them of people it has already happened to and how it was fixed. I am fearing now that my 8" screen is going to crash and that's all I need now in the dead of winter. Thanks in advance for any help!! Tony
  13. Ok, This is finally driving me crazy. I must have close to 500 songs on my 4 gig USB drive plugged into my 2011 Edge and scrolling through the music has become a royal pain in the A**!! I want to just press next until an artist I like appears and listen to everything in a row from that person. Instead, after listening to "Bad" from U2, my next song is from Kanye West and not the other 30 songs i have from US which i'm in the mood to listen to, this is so dumb. I don't want to fiddle in the touch screen to find an artist, its way too slow and if I pick an artist from there, once all the songs are played, it just stops so I’d rather search using the controls on the steering wheel instead. When I got my car flashed with the Gen 2.4 update, when I re-installed my USB it was SOOO amazing, everything was working by artist name and NOT by song title, however, after it completed indexing, it changed back to being in order of song title. Is there any way to manipulate the iTunes file names or something, anything, that will trick the system into playing it by artist and not song title? Thanks! Tony

  15. I also have this noise, but let me say that I was trying to break my head wondering where it was coming from but while doing so noticed something pretty odd.... Yes, I only hear it at higher speed, e.g. around the 90km/h mark and up, however, I noticed that when I remove my foot from the accelerator that the noise goes away (and Im still rolling at the same speed). I then did a press / release / press / release with the accelerator pedal and the noise followed the same pattern each time I touched and released the gas. I then noticed while holding my foot on the gas doing 100, the noise was there, but found that it became less obvious when I put the car on cruise control? And yes, it's also from the driver side front door, but honestly, it does not sound like air to me. Am I dreaming or is anyone else able to try the tests I did and get the same results?? Just wanted to share what I found. Tony
  16. Waldo - Thanks for the tip. I actually did that with my original dealer and didn't get to far, that's why I was hoping to get the letter in the mail to go in with some ammo. If you read the post above this one, while I was on the phone with the service team getting some info for the Body Module fix, I took that opportunity to also mention the issues I’ve been having with the Touch system and that I wanted the latest update applied to my car, Version 2.4. The service tech actually told me that with my VIN, he could see that in the system that not only was I listed for the Body Module recall, that i was also in their for the My Touch system!! It must be the famous 10B20 recall people are referring to possibly. He told me we could do the Body Module test and he would update my Sync at the same time. He also told me that they have updated MAAAANY cars so far and they have a lot of experience doing it now. I told him I wanted the latest version installed and someone he spoke to beside him confirmed it was 2.4 so I hope this is exactly what gets put on my car tomorrow. From my understanding, I’ve read that these updates were taking upwards of 4 - 6 hours to install but he told me it was a 90 minute job, I hope this is accurate and that I'm getting it all. Maybe the 4 - 6 hours was because it wasn't installing properly initially? I still have the original V1.8 from the manufacturer, I wonder if Gen. 2 V2.4 erases the complete software and reloads from scratch or if it just adds patches and updates to the existing platform? Only thing I worry about now is hopefully not getting the Lincoln software installed which some people have said to have gotten which installs the Lincoln logo, wrong ambient light matching and 4 corner colors being wrong. If I do get that, I hear that the fix is not hard to obtain and do on our own so fingers are crossed all goes well!! Tony
  17. akirby - Actually, I've been following several recall postings on here and did some searching online myself. One of the links I clicked on from this forum had an article with the following info: In the recall--campaign ID #10V659000--the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says some 14,737 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are affected. The agency reports that, for a six-day period, defective body-control modules were installed in the vehicles, leading to a possible internal short. The electrical short could cause overheating and fire. The recall begins on January 10. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 to find out if their vehicle is affected. Then, I found a link on line that had this info: FORD'S RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 10S14. I picked up the phone on Jan. 11th since I was waiting for the recall to be in effect and called the Ford contact number above which is their Recall Center, and it was as easy as giving them my VIN. They immediately saw that I was in their system to be part of the recall, they know all the VIN's that need fixing / checking. I asked them how I would be notified to bring my car in and they said there was already a letter written up in their system for me but didn't know what happens next?? They told me that all dealers have been notified of this TSB and that the best thing I should do now is to call the dealer and give them my VIN and they can see it in the system right away, all dealers just need to enter your VIN and they can see if you have any recalls listed for your car as well regardless of what it's for. They told me to contact me dealer to make an appointment to fix it and that I did not need to get the letter first. This was Jan. 11th and the recall has been announced since December 30th or so. I picked up the phone, called my service manager, gave him the campaign # and recall number. I told them I had a young baby in the car with me every day, and above that I was scheduled to go on vacation with my car (this week right now). I told him I didn’t feel comfortable going a very far distance with this potential fire hazard and I needed it checked as soon as possible. I made sure he had almost 2 weeks’ notice on the TSB and be up to speed on it (since the TSB was issued around Jan. 1st and I called only Jan. 11 purposely so they could be informed about it). The jerk off puts me on hold, comes back and says that he hasn't heard of this problem, I asked him if he could look into it and take my VIN and let me know. He pretty much brushed me off and told me to call him back in 2 weeks and hopefully he'll have some news for me then. I was like WTF? This is why I don't want my car going back to this place, not even for my Gen 2, V2.4, these people could care less about my car and god forbid they mess something up on the update, they will do nothing to get it corrected after that I just spent around 30 minutes on the phone with another dealer, around 30 minutes from my house and they have done plenty of these recalls already, told me exactly what they need to do to check if it's faulty or not (hook up to Oasis etc....) and could have that done and checked within 30 minutes. After getting off the phone with them, I was completely confident that they knew what was going on, they said they've done plenty up to now so my appointment is now with them at 7am tomorrow morning to get my car checked Only thing is that i may be ok as i may not be. If i need it changed, I didn't get precise info on how long it would take to get the part in or how long i would need to wait to have it fixed and if i needed to leave my car with them or not...this was the only "worry-some" thing i had, how long will i be out of a car. Word to the wise, don't wait for a letter, pick up the phone and make the phone call just to be sure you are not part of the recall list, you never know if you will get the letter or now. Tony P.S. Harleymhs, I followed your postings on the Sync site and seems like after your 2nd visit, everything is absolutely perfect and all is corrected Sounds like you got the right dealer to do this upgrade! Is it the Gen 2 Version 2.4? I would like to know which dealer you went to? Are you in Canada? I'm from Montreal and most dealers I have tried contacting have absolutely no clue about the update and what I'm talking about when I ask them what version they have. I am looking for stories like yours with a successful update to the newest version in either Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa with the correct Ford logo and color or in this area so I can go to this particular dealer with confidence that my car will be fixed properly!!   19. Amy, Do you live in Canada or USA? I'm still waiting for my letter as I'm also affected by the recall but haven't heard anything via letter or phone call from the dealer as of yet? I live in Montreal. I have not done any upgrades to MyTouch since I owned it and it was built before all the updates have arrived, I hope I get a letter to get the system updated as well..I have a bunch of bugs in it but have yet to bring it in for anything so far. Tiger - when did you get your Edge? I'm wondering what software you have in it? Who are they contacting about the software updates? Anyone that they can tell hasn't done the upgrade yet through the data available on the Sync site? I still have the original version, trying to figure out how I can get a recall to have the software updated or "customer Satisfaction Program" #10B20? Tony
  20. For those of you who have confirmed successful updates of the Gen 2 and BE installs done by the dealer, are any of you in Montreal, Ottawa or Toronto areas? My dealer is giving me the run around, doesn't know his head from his A** when it comes to this system and I am fearful they will only mess it up more by trying to do the install, especially with the ambient lighting alignment messing up by not checking the install confirmations. I still don't have anything updated on my car. If anyone has done these 2 updates and happy with the results in or around the cities I mentioned above, can you please let me know what dealership and if possible who you dealt with so I can call them. I have no problem taking a drive over to ensure it get's done correctly, I need that piece of mind before I commit to doing all these updates. Lastly, it used to show that I needed both these updates but since a week or so it shows I am completely up to date when I am not. Must I get these print outs or can Ford call the update center with my VIN to find out what I need….I heard that once they plug in the car, it will show all available updates for my particular VIN number…is this true?   21. I just called the 877 number and spoke to an agent in the recall center...mine is being recalled What exactly is this piece and where is it located? Do they need to disassemble a lot to get to it? I called my dealer to try and schedule an appointment (as per the suggestion of the Ford agent I spoke to) and my service manager knows nothing about it..surprise surprise... I see the article mentions that the recall only starts Jan. 10th, should I be getting a call about this then or do I need to push my dealer to look into this? Should they have been advised yet? Thanks!
  22. Just curious, I've been sitting around waiting to hear as much feedback as possible regarding the gen 2 update and now this latest one. The last time I checked the status of syncmyride.com for my vehicle (last week), it showed the gen 2 update needing to be done also this last one as well. It told me to print out the request and bring it to my dealer which I hadn't done yet as I was waiting to do it while on vacation at the end of this month, When I went to look it at again just now, it says that I have no updates needing to be installed, that I'm all up to date? The mention of the Gen 2 and new updates are completely gone? What it shows as confirmed updates are: Then, when I click on the following: Not sure your SYNC is up-to-date? "Check your SYNC history" and "report successful installs" links, I get this image: What happened to my updates? My service guy at my dealer is NOT friendly at all and he doesn't know his A*** from his elbow so not having my print out is going to make it even harder now to get this update done. Any suggestions? Do I need to contact Sync? If so, is there a phone number that exists? Who can direct me in the right direction as to how to get my updates? Anyone in the Montreal, Ottawa, or Toronto area get the Gen 2 update done successfully at a dealer with some friendly staff? Can I take my car to any dealer or must I go to where I purchased my car?
  23. Thanks for the replies guys I was planning on trying one of the ideas you all mentioned when I got home from work today but since my wife was out with the car I couldn't do it right away. As I waited for my wife to get home, I got a call from her that as she was driving, the entire touch screen just froze up and everything crashed. Nothing at all worked anymore, it went dead, pop up then showed up saying Navigation was not available or card reader fault (from what I remember her saying), radio stopped, and when she went to touch the screen, it was un-responsive. I told my wife to pull over, shut off car and re-start it...she did and still nothing, it was still un-useable. I tell her to leave it alone and do what she had to do, she went shopping for about 30 minutes and when she returned, she called me back to say that all that all is now working perfectly fine, everything works as if nothing had ever happened. To me, it sounds like my USB "bug" just crashed the system and forced it to "re-boot" or something like that and at the same time, it may not even be related? When she got home, I grabbed the small USB drive I created just for testing, the one with the 3 songs on it and not the one that initially froze up on me, I went into the car, plugged it in and it worked flawlessly. No more frozen screen, music came right on, everything seems to be back to normal and I didn't have to do anything. It is crappy though that the system just died in the middle of my wife driving...she lost her heat and had to use the manual defrost settings below the screen to get some heat back in the car. This really bothers me and I find that a little "unsafe" especially when my 18 month old is usually in the car with us and the last thing I need is to lose heat in sub zero temperature. Well, don't know what happened, don't know why it took so much time for it to fix itself or un freeze but from what I can tell it looks ok now. Tomorrow I will put back the 4 gig USB I have all my music on and hope for the best...I just may re-format it and re-load the music just in case...I doubt I need to but I’d rather be safe than sorry. If I run into any more problems, I’ll be back! Thanks again! Tony
  24. Looking for some help if possible please I have been listening to all my music via USB since day one..meaning 6 weeks or so and all has been great, no complaints at all. I also have my iphone 4 paired with the car (only use it for the phone feature, nothing else) so when the car starts up, it takes about 30 seconds or so before the phone is fully connected via Bluetooth and only then do i usually put the car in drive and head off (as most of the my touch screen is dead until it does so anyhow). As the car starts to pair up with the phone, the music usually automatically lowers a little until the car says "911 Assist is off blah blah blah"...during this time I have pretty much no access to anything and I can't lower or raise the volume of the music. This afternoon I shut off the car while listening to some music on my USB and went to pick up my daughter from my in laws. When I got back in the car with her, I remembered the music being really loud so when I started the car I tried to lower the music as fast as possible but I forgot it was pairing with my phone and as usuall it wouldn't let me. I don't know if I tried to shut it off or it I touched something but after the iphone pairing was done and the music should have started up, the USB just froze up in the middle of the song and the music would no longer play however it still shows the artist and title of the song it was playing (time or red scroll bar frozen as well). I try everything to get it running again but to no avail. The odd thing is that I can still browse the USB key as always and search everything on it, every track it has; it sees and finds everything. I find and select another artist / song and attempt to play it but it then returns to the frozen screen which shows the artist that was playing previously (when it froze) and the red bar which scrolls with the time remaining in the song still frozen where it left off. I pulled the USB out, the USB option for media dissapears so i know it realizes it's gone, and the "frozen" screen i saw while on the USB device also goes away. I pop it back in, it re-index's the USB and once I try to play anything, it just returns to the same frozen screen exactly as it was before I pulled out the USB. I tried this shutting off the car several times, waiting 5 minutes up to 3 hours to see if it would reset itself, it didn't. I now figure the USB got corrupted so I grab another USB, slap some music onto it and bring it to the car. I pop it in, it indexes but the same frozen screen comes back on???! The only difference is that the frozen screen does not show the artist or song title, however it does show the track number it was (on the top left) and the red time scroll bar is still frozen at the same place? I browse the USB for the music I just put on it, I find the 3 test songs I added, I pick one, but it returns to the "frozen" play screen again. Everything else works perfectly, iphone still pairs up fine, all other media works fine as well e.g. AM / FM, Sirius etc...no problems at all. What the heck happened and how do I fix this now? Why does it always return to the same screen where it froze up and not let me play anything now via USB? Is there a way to reset it without pulling the fuse or battery and would this option even fix this? The USB drive seems to work fine, it reads and displays the personalized name i labelled each USB key when i browse my media options, it indexes, it finds the music on it, but it just returns to the screen i jammed and wont unfreeze the screen for new music? What should i do and try next? Thanks for all the advice!! Tony

Can you PLEASE ask your dealer what version or code / number the dealer installed ?? I know it's supposed to be Gen 2 update but maybe it goes by a different name or code? Is there any way to also find out when this update / upgrade ACTUALLY was released? I spoke to my dealer yesterday about this and i wasn't confident they knew what i was talking about....claiming they've had the update for over 2 weeks now and not giving me any really details to what the update does or the actual update number / version. They gave my a update number but it didn't match what i've see lately on these posts...once they said they've had it for 2 weeks and the TSB and update only coming out in the last few days...i am not certain we are talking about the same thing...or are we?
