  1. A helpful tip on the foot/rear liftgate thing that's gotten me to 100%, step in and put your foot straight in a couple inches to the left of the hitch then step straight back out a couple feet away.  It has a proximity sensor so if you stay too close it won't activate.

    Congrats on the buy xtxman!

Appreciate the update mwilson6192, please keep us posted as I'm keeping a close eye on ours to see if it's a design defect or just a one off that unfortunately you had the mispleasure of getting.  I need to check our build date and see if they are close together.

  2. Thanks.  So far she's really enjoying and to be honest, the little I drove it I really like it.  Her other one was nice but this one was truly fun to drive.  Also something cool about getting a car with only 6 miles on it knowing you and the factory workers/staff who unloaded it and gassed it up are the only ones who've really driven it. :)  It's not cheap but Z plan pricing discount was significant and the tech is just mind numbing.

  3. Wife traded her 2011 Sport in today for our new 2019 ST.  I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements across the board.  Performance blue, 401a with cold weather package.  For those like me who didn't like the factory rims based on the pics, see them in person.  For us at least, they looked totally different in person and on the car vs the pics.  Truly an upgrade in every aspect.

I recently rode in a coworkers Acura TSX ?-Spec and outside it was whisper quiet....but inside, the engine sounds piped through the speakers made it sound like a different car.  He seemed pretty convinced...I was not as impressed.

Yikes, that seems the exact opposite of how it should be.  My daily is a CTS-V and it's shockingly quiet on the inside but if I open some windows the exhaust note comes through beautifully.  Initially I complained to my wife the car was too quiet and she laughed since she's heard it from the outside so I had her drive it while I stood outside and got a whole new impression and appreciation for their noise cancelling.  Agree that piped in fake exhaust/engine is a cop out.  Hopefully that's not in play on the ST's when the radio is on otherwise I'll be investing in a forscan to turn that off provided we go with the new ST for her vehicle.

  5. excellent, thank you. Makes me more excited to check it out. Like the looks of those rims and they appear to be designed so they aren't a giant PITA to keep clean. (Not that the factory ones look like they would be either). Might have to invest in a Forscan to shut that piped in engine noise off if we get one. We'd be coming from a 2011 Sport AWD so I'm hoping for improvements across the board. Thanks again!

  6. It definitely looks good in pics. Any chance you can post a close up of the black rims on yours? Also, anything that took you by surprise (good or bad) about the vehicle? We are considering an ST, the Nautilus and a Caddy XT5.

  7. Ohio must be having theirs delivered by mule ;) As for price, I'm not concerned, we get Z plan pricing so that's set, just a matter of negotiating the trade in value of our existing vehicle. Would be nice to see one in person, keep being told by the end of the month at every dealer within 50 miles.

  8. Pad compounds. A compound that is designed for heavy braking loads on a high horsepower, heavy vehicle will not perform well in sub-zero temps. It's all a trade off. A pad that does well when it's -30F will not take abuse on a road course in the summer very well. Since the magazines will all take it to a track to test it- they cannot use a pad that would get smoked.

I beg to differ. The brakes on my CTS-V work every bit as well in winter as they do in the summer and it's far from a light vehicle. Granted, they are WAY more expensive than what's on the ST but it's certainly possible. Now, the tires on the other hand, they go hide and my couch cushion / marshmallow blizzaks come out once it dips into the 30s.

  9. These are pre-production units being tested. I would wait and test drive a production model for myself.

Exactly, plus, sometimes reviewers and I view things quite differently. Just waiting to hear from our local dealer when they take inventory of an ST.

    There's a new Interview with a Ford Performance Engineer that touches on this;

Is there something you wish could have been part of the car but for whatever reason didn't make it?

I'll tell you the item, the single specific attribute, that we'll continue to improve is the transmission software. We have a new eight-speed transmission, fundamentally very capable. Our target is DCT-like shift speeds. We're not quite there yet. We will see, we know how to do it, and we will get there over time with additional software.

Interesting that they admit it's not quite there but f it, we'll still release it. lol If they had a great history of post purchase software updates/support included I'd be excited but at least from our personal experience, that's not been the case.

It's almost certainly not turbo lag. It has to be the ETC or the tranny or the PCM programming. It's possible it was a pre-production problem that's been fixed for production. Hard to say until the production units come out. Either way it's disappointing.

Hopefully pre-production or if not, hopefully enough negative press will result in a correction at the factory before release.

  12. So far the only disappointment I've read is the turbo lag. Not sure why in today's day and age they let that slip through the tuning and into the final product. I don't have confidence that Ford will release/update the code to correct it with existing models (maybe adding/changing it down the line a year or two but leaving existing owners screwed). It appears the looks and most of the touch/feel items have been improved which is nice.

  13. Pirelli Scorpions are decent tires. Not great but decent.....

Agreed though the Yokohama's we replaced them with on our Sport have been much better.

Definitely agree with the posts above, re: the ST standard wheels. Will wait and have to see them in person I guess because from the pics, ugh.
