  1. 2011 Edge Limitied AWD Did a mileage check at 2250miles, filled the tank and drove out of town for about 280 miles and then resumed usual urban driving. Managed 22.5 mpg/Cdn / 20.2mpg/USA. We generally get 15-18mpg/Cdn around town and I have a light foot. Hopefully better mileage when the weather warms.
  2. Bordeaux, sienna inside. Aqua blue ambient lighting for the reason in the above post. My 2003 Passat had red lighting which I quite liked but as the buttons in the Edge don't change, so aqua it is.
  3. I just tried connecting my Canon S51s camera directly to the video inputs on our Edge. It works! However the Canon video resolution is 640x480 and the Edge stretches the video to its screen size. I do not like the stretch effect and would either prefer: a) the Edge to play the video correctly as 640x480 or use some program to change the 640x480 to whatever the Edge resolution is. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance
  4. I don't know where the sound comes from but I do know that if the "buttons" on the rear bumper are covered with snow and grit, the sensors are late coming on, if at all!
  5. No. My previous car was a used Windstar and the previous owner did not have the access code so it cost me $35 to have the dearler provide it. Check inside your manual, that's where mine was. When you do get the code the first thing to do is add your own so it will be easy to remember. The manual tells you how to do this.
  6. Well, our '11 Edge Limited has the same lighting. I suspect that if there was an led in the front edge it might be distracting as intent of ambient lighting is to be indirect. My 2¢
  7. Guess I'm getting slower (now that I am officially a senior citizen) but I finally get what is meant by a ball compass so thanks for contributor's inputs and patience I still don't like the Edge display and would prefer a map/compass presentation. As the system is digital it should not be difficult to give the owner a choice. And Curlysir, thanks for the "beating a dead horse" gif...
  8. Perhaps this photo will clear up the confusion. The Edge is parked in my driveway pointed West, therefore N is to my right. The bottom half of the picture is the Edge map taken minutes ago. Note along the top right, reading left to right: W View Dest. W is the direction the car is pointed - correct. The car position is the red triangle/arrow with a circle around and it is pointing West - correct. Note the larger red triangle arrow in the upper left hand corner and it is pointing North (or to the right if you prefer) - correct. On the compass, which is pointing West, N is to the left - incorrect.
  9. The last images ball with clip prove my point as viewed from above. ..........N ...W........E ..........S I guess we can disagree but I believe the Edge compass display is incorrect, at least compared to my hand held compass and my Garmin Nuvi.
  10. Here's the reason we now have a 2011 Edge. Late September 2010, our 2003 Passat suffered terminal body damage in Duluth MN while enroute back home to Manitoba. As this car was built in Germany, used body parts are rare and the cost of new right side body panels etc exceeded the value of the car! We were not going to replace the wagon until 2012-13 but we are quite satisfied with our Edge.
  11. In order to display the compass problem (i.e. N-W-S instead of S-W-N) perhaps this image will better explain it. The top image is from my Edge dash taken this am. Note the N is left of W. This would suggest that to turn North you would turn left - INCORRECT. When proceeding west, you turn right to head North. Bottom left is a hand held compass, note W-N-E. Bottom right is an aircraft directional gyro, note W-N-E Although the Edge compass correctly displays the direction, it incorrectly displays the compass face. The -11 is -11 Celsius so it's not that cold.
  12. I am wondering if others have the same compass display error. On the right dash screen when the compass is being displayed, the directions are not correct. For example, when I am proceeding westbound the display shows N-W-S, 180 degrees from what is correct S-W-N. If that example is not clear consider when proceeding North the display shows E-N-W (East is left and West is right which is 180 degrees from what is correct). Anyone else?
  13. We have plenty of snow here on the eastern edge of the Canadian Prairies (Winnipeg). The '11 Edge AWD performs very well, even better than my '03 Passat which was awesome for a FWD. The major difference between the two is that the ESP (traction control) came on much quicker in the VW. You have to work to make the Edge TC show itself. Someone else had posted pretty much the same thing. The Edge AWD has excellent traction from a stand-still and other than the blind spots on the forward edge of the front doors, it is a fine winter drive. And lots of daylight from the BAMR !
  14. Great snaps thanks! We too have the bordeaux/sienna. Managed to see an already sold one at a dealers and that was it, had to have one.
  15. Just to muddy the waters a little... It seems the issue with the Edge SD card-based nav system is indeed odd. We ordered our 2011 Edge Limited in October and it arrived during the 1st week of December. We had specifically ordered the sunroof but never for a moment considered a nav system as we already have a Garmin. Here is the exact wording from the window sticker on our Edge OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT: CANADIAN TOURING PACKAGE $2,550.00 . PANORAMIC ROOF . VOICE ACTIVATED NAVIGATION SY_ CANADIAN TOURING PKG DISC - $700.00 When we arrived to pick up our Edge the salesman was just inserting the sd card and explained that was the nav system. Apparently that option was included in the CTPkg. We do not use the nav system but it is rather neat to drive along and have street names displayed on the smaller right hand screen and on the main screen.
  16. Hi rwbronco

I like your images but when I tried to open the tile "Misc_HTP_Pack.zip" I I get an error message:

The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted

    Cheers,

  17. Our '11 Edge is almost a month old now and I still find myself spending too much time looking at the displays to do do something and getting distracted. In other words, you have asked a good question.
  18. This fellow's website offers good advice regarding headlight bulbs etc. I bought Osrams from him several years ago for my '03 Passat. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/
  19. Well, our Limited has the B/U camera and the B/U lights provide enough illumination for that operation so I guess we're satisfied.
  20. The Limited and Sport models have vertical LED lights installed in that position on the bumpers. They are quite useless for road illumination but make your car easy to spot in a parking lot at night. I don't really need them as we opted for the HIDs in our '11 Limited. We are very satisfied Edge owners by the way.
  21. Up here we generally refer to them as "Jeezus" handles for the same reason, especially if my daughter is driving... For wahtever reason the driver does not have one - but my 2003 VW did, go figure...
  22. We had the same feeling for a few days. Now after 8 days we are quite comforable with the "bells and whistles". Mind you, we don't have a bluetooth phone and I do not find the voice command system very useful (yet).
