  1. Well in any case, let's hope the updates fix the problems, and come more often, and fix things rather than break more things. Like I said though, I love the system and overall haven't had major issues. I have had the occasional reboot, and USB seems to give me some problems, but overall I love it. It is by far the best infotainment system I have tested/used, problems or not.
  2. Akirby, I hate to break it to you, but even though Ford doesnt own the dealers in most cases, to the lay person, the dealer IS FORD. So by the dealer blaming Microsoft, to 99% of people out there, by extension FORD is blaming Microsoft. I too love my system and have had a few problems, but in no way do they dissuade me from using and loving the system and car.
  3. Very interesting read: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/30/fords-second-gen-sync-system-off-to-a-buggy-start/#continued Seems the restart issues is on purpose, at least that's good to know. Now, if they could be more transparent on the update process, and stop blaming Microsoft for the problems.
  4. Hey Loose, I just got a quote from a shop in my town to do it for $450. That sounds high to me, does it to you? (or anyone else). That is only $80 less than buying the grill and having it painted from Ford, from my earlier post.... Was hoping it would be in the $200 range...
  5. Dubya, the silver piece above the door handle came off for me pretty easily. It does require more force than you think, but it will come off. Pry from the top as that is where the clip is. As for the window button trim once you get it off you will see an indention on the back side (away from the grab handle on the door) so pry it up from that side. There are two metal clips that hold it in on the front and back, and the one in the back uses that indention to lift it up. It too is easier than you make it, but does require force. Pry with as much even pressure from side to side to get it off, don't create any pressure points and you wont break it.
  6. I have found mine to be a bit spotty too, but I also had a Sirius radio in my previous car, that was aftermarket, with an aftermarket antenna, and it did the same thing. This leads me to believe it isn't the car, but Sirius. Quite honestly I do not notice it that much to have it annoy me...the wind noise from the mirrors however, now that is annoying.
  7. Tahoe, Are your amps actively cooled (a fan in the amp)? If not, have you had them overheat yet being under the floorboard? I am doing the exact same thing you did in my 2011, and putting the amps in the exact same place, but both of mine are passively cooled so I am worried they are going to overheat. The 2011 doesnt have that foam so I wont have that there, but otherwise it is the same. Also, did you have to add a battery or alternate power source, or does the stock batter handle two amps ok? Looks great, and gave me the inspiration to put my system in finally!
  8. Hotlap - thanks for the info, even it was late! I figured it out eventually, but thanks anyway! The door speakers, both front and rear are 6"x8" in size. I installed Boston Acoustics S85's and they sound great!
  9. Dubya, I replaced all four door speakers with Boston Acoustics S85 speakers. I chose not to go with seperate tweeters for now because I couldn't figure out how to remove the A pillar enough to install them (The A pillar is installed behind the dash, and I didnt want to risk breaking it as I tried to remove it). So far, without an amp, subwoofer, or a sound processor (I purchased the MTX re-q5 so I could install a 4 channel amp to the door speakers, and a 2 channel amp for a sub) it sounds amazing! I cannot wait to install the MTX box, and hook up the four channel amp to see how it sounds then! After that I will be purchasing the JL Audio stealth subwoofer box and installing that (I already have an amp from a previous install). I installed the amps behind the spare tire, in front of the back seats. I made a mount out of flat metal from Lowes, and used the screw posts the plastic tubs secure to as the mounting points. All in all it turned out great. I will post pics once it is all done (as for now just the amps are there, no wiring yet).
  10. Nevermind....figured it out on my own. The window button panel has to come off on both doors first, and then the rest of the door can come off.
  11. Anyone?? I know some people have replaced their speakers on their 2011, any help would be very much appreciated!!!! Thanks
  12. All, I am trying to replace the door speakers on my 2011 Ford Edge SEL and am having difficulties with the fronts. I remove the screws on the side and bottom edges, and the one behind the trim panel above the hand rail (which was tricky to find at first), but then the panel still won't come off because another screw is holding it in somewhere. I have narrowed it down to behind the other silver trim panel under the window buttons, or the window button panel itself. I obviously do not want to do anything to break my panel so I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to remove it that I am missing. I have looked at the guides for the 2010 models, but the '11 is completely different so they are no help. Help please! Thanks!
  13. I purchased an MTX re-q5 which is a signal processor that restores sound quality when adding an amp and sub to a factory stereo. I have used one of these many times in the past and the work great, and all you need to do is find the factory speaker harness and tap into that, and then the amps wire off of that. Here it is on Crutchfield (though I purchased it off Amazon because it was $100 cheaper): http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236REQ5/MTX-re-Q5.html?tp=6870 And instructions on how to install it: http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/236/236REQ5.PDF
  14. For those with the JL audio sub installed, where did you mount your amp or amps? Neither of mine (one for sub, one for 4 door speakers) will fit under the rear seats as they hit when the seats are folded down. I was thinking of just mounting them on the back of the rear seats and wiring accordingly so they dont interfere with the mechanism of folding down. But that options leaves them visible which isnt my first choice. Thanks!

    EPA MPG

You are correct sir, I misread that info. Sorry for the confusion.

    EPA MPG

You guys do realize that the tests are conducted by the EPA, not Ford? Besides that the conditions in which they are tested are absolutely ideal (fuel-to-air, temperature, humidity, gear changes, etc...), and are far from realistic driving conditions. You should always take the EPA estimates as that, estimates. I average around 20mpg from my 2011. 3.5L, with about 50-50 highway-city driving. To me, for an older style V-6, thats pretty damned good. Here is the EPA website on how they test: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/how_tested.shtml
  17. I am looking at upgrading my door speakers in my 2011 SEL (without the Sony system) with component speakers for the front, with external tweeters. I would like to install them into the stock location in the A-Pillar, and can just purchase the pillar from ford (For $95 per pillar using part number 03589), but I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if there was any custom cutting or alignment work involved with making an aftermarket tweeter fit into the stock location. I guess the first place to start would be if anyone knew the size of the mounting area of the factory tweeter, and "how" it mounts (the style of mounting bracket) to the a pillar trim panel. Thanks in advance!!
  18. I have a 2011 Edge SEL without the sub. Just a clarification, if I purchased the JL sub, would I also need to purchase the panel that covers the subwoofer area from Ford? What is that panel called? Cant find it in the fordparts.com system (mainly because I do not know what to search for). Thanks!
  19. Thanks for your fast responses all! I definitely thought the body number was high, but I wasn't sure about the grill itself. I will definitely be doing this, just need to find a shop to do it for cheaper, and I will post pics when it is complete! Thanks.
  20. Hi All - First time poster. Just bought my 2011 Edge SEL, Red Candy, and am looking to put the black "Sport" grill on the car (since it looks so much better! ). I got a price from my local dealership that breaks down as such and I was wondering what you all thought of the pricing, as I have no frame of reference. Any feedback would be helpful. $125.00 Grille from Ford $325.00 Prep & Paint $80.00 Labor to Install Thanks!
