  1. I've set my mirrors using the same method too. Last week, when temps actually started warming up around here I watched a bike for about a half mile come down the left lane next to me. He stayed on the outer part of the lane, but the BLIS system never picked him up. The moral, pay attention to the mirros and look behind you no tursting just the mirros and BLIS.

Thanks for the review on the BLIS functionality. I was contemplating adding the options, but I actually like the Blind Spot Mirror on the standard set. I guess I won't be check that box off since it seems like it won't replace a good ol fashioned visual check.

  2. I'm looking to purchase some carpeted floor mats for our new 2011 Edge for summer use. I'll be buying Weather Tech mats in the fall for winter use, so these need to be high quality summer only mats with carpet and not fully plastic/rubber. I'd like better coverage than the stock floor mats - in particular something that covers the dead pedal area. Also, I'd really like something custom fit for our Edge. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am looking at these, as they seem like high quality and have custom fit. Anyone have any experience?

    My link

I saw some mats called Catch-it-all made by Nifty... apparently they are all weather, but carpet at the same time. Maybe look into those?

  3.

I agree with you totally. I, too, looked hard at RX350, Toyota Venza, Nissan Murano and found the features in the Ford Edge superior to all of the above. I purchased a Limited 3 days ago and have had nothing but problems with the phone, ipod itunes. Even though my IPhone 4 initially synced with the car every time I leave and get back in it has to be re-synced. What was supposed to be an exhilarating experience of having a new car is a nightmare. Don't want to show it to anyone until problems fixed - not a good advertisement!! I can only hope these issues will be resolved - otherwise Lemon Law here I come!!

Sounds like you need a new phone....

iPhone, iPod and iTunes not working well with Microsoft sync.... hmmmmm.... have you tried another phone?

  4. Gotta pay for the air here in most California stations.... BUT what most don't know is, by law, they are required to provide FREE air and water to people that purchase gas.

So, buy a gallon and have the guy behind the counter "push the secret button"

  5. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Its vastly improved for 2011 and has some compelling points. It does match up better to the Explorer, but with 2 rows, and in a similar price range (comparably equipped), it could be Edge competition.

The real compelling aspect of it are the 1)REAL 4WD systems (3 to choose from) vs. "AWD" and 2) the Air Suspension. (similar functions to Range Rover)

I priced a Laredo X 4x4 w/Air suspension and similar specs/options to the Edge that I want (FWD Limited) and it came out about $1,000 less without mentioning any incentives for the Jeep. Of course, the Edge's technology toolbag and killer MPG (relatively) give it the advantage in everyday life. But the GJC will shine on trips to Tahoe and other remote destinations. (not that the Edge won't).

I am very close to pulling the trigger on the Edge, but the GJC makes me think twice. I think I should test drive the Jeep just to make sure the Edge is the right choice.

  6. on a Limited that's the only way it comes.

I've looked into replacing the parts with the ones from the Sport - as they are black instead - they're about $150.00 ea. (there's only 2)

I'm also thinking about painting them, but haven't decided which route to take yet...

Vinyl wrapping is the way to go. It will protect the original finish in addition to changing the look. Best of all, it is reversible, unlike paint.

  7. Thanks bbf2530 I dont think I will do it after this. I like cars with dual climate control to avoid fighting with my wife over the settings :) but this car was a real good deal it's only less than 15000 Km ODO (9320 miles) i could not find such low milage with 2008 models. if i will buy the 2008 model with climate control i would have payed $7000 more and still it will be over 50000 Km.

You should be able to do it for $5000... leaving you $2000 ahead.

But that would require the luck of finding a donor car and knowing someone good enough to frankenstein it

  8. How long it lasts depends on the maker/brand and of course wear/tear. I use 3M on my installs and they are warranted 5 years from the manufacturer and have an average life span of 7 years. Other brands will vary in price and film thickness. It sticks by an adhesive that is safe on paint.

I guess 5 hundo is pretty good insurance for 7 years. Especially if you have one of the "special" colors.

  9. Wow,. first off, i saw a new, 2011 black Edge Sport the other day,... TOTAL HEAD TURNER! AS for mods,... heck you shoulda just PM'd me. LOL I think i have the most modded Edge here! :) If you like Carbon Fiber, it blends really nice with black vehicles. Check out my posts where i wrapped my dash. I plan to wrap exterior panels as well. You could change out your exhaust tips with larger ones, then paint them flat black (like mine). You could remove the emblems off the back and then have the words remade in flat black vinyl (ahem,... like mine). You could add the 3D Carbon fender vents, super easy to install, .... after you get enough balls to cut a whole in the fender of your new ride, LOL. But afterwards, they look like the vehicle came with them, very clean, factory look. (again,.. check out my pics). You could add some LED's to the front,... (refer to my pics again, lol) You could black out the "Ford" emblems,.... (you know what i would say here). Stereo wise, you could upgrade the subwoofer,.. give it alittle more bump-in-the-trunk, for the long road trips. (I can advise in this area as well). You can also swap out your door speakers for better speakers as well :)

Thats about all i can think of for now, that doesn't deal with performance. OH, definitely get a weather-tech rear cargo mat. Worth every penny!

    -Cannon

I'm going to do the same thing with Di Noc :)

    And yes, Weather Tech FTW.

    As for other mods,

    - LED mirror turn signals into an OE housing eventually.

    - Suede Vista/BAMR cover

    - Suede headliner

    - Screen protector material to overlay on the Sony HU capacitive controls. (like smartphone stuff)

    - 400W Power Inverter

    - Viper SmartStart integrated to my Intelligent Access (going to forgo the dealer added alarm)

    - Body painted rockers and lower fascia

    - Yakima Q Tower Racks with clips first, then Thule track with the Yakima Q Towers

    - Bike rack, snowboard rack

    - Knight Rider style "running" red leds tucked into grille with switch.

  10. As you said, if the price is right, yes. I buy some from you, put them in and then send you mine so I don't lose my main transportation.

The OEM lights from Ford for a 2011 Edge list for $161 each side... ouch. I'd have to basically invest $260 (jobber discount) + 10% tax = $286.00 to get a set to work on.

Basically, I'd have to get a enough people interested to cover those costs at the very least. I will work on getting pics of my 2 sets of lights for my Volvo as example. I will post them soon.

Anyone with interest, please post here and/or PM me. The first group/batch will help me "earn" my working set, no profit. So the more people I get interest from in the beginning the cheaper it will be for those pioneers. We will have to work out an agreement for expected timeframes and such. Of course, include any customization you want, how fast you want them, how much you'd be willing to pay (I'm all ears)

  11. I'm going to go the vinyl route as I will be on a 36mo lease and it will be removable.

3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber twill vinyl is pretty awesome. It comes in a multitude of finishes and colors. If you don't like the finish on the dash, easily changed. Or if you have a Limited and don't like the woodish treatment etc,

Personally, I will end up putting the same finish on both the grille and dash... I'm thinking Charcoal or Black CF ... maybe even White CF (have to see how it looks next to the Platinum Met. White)

  12. No way I'd attempt it myself. Shooting things? I'm an expert at and have years behind a rifle. Sanding on my NEW SUV? Yeah, not for me. I'd shred it and then be out the money of getting new lights. However I'd definately buy ones that I could just bolt on.

Well that's interesting... I'm willing to make the lights if the price is right. Problem with doing it for someone across the country comes down to logistics since some downtime on a new( or newish) car is hard to come by.

You could get a body shop to do it as well... if you have one that you trust. It shouldn't cost too much. There's some folks on Craigslist in my area that offer the service while you wait, but I'd be leery of the finish quality.

Just a feeler: Since you would be open to buying a new light set, would you be open to a finished set from me and then sell me your old lights so I could work them and pass them on?

Anybody else interested please chime in. Please include whether you have 2011+ lights or older ones and looking for an upgrade etc. (just trying to gauge interest and see if its even worth it for me to offer the service)

BTW, I don't even have an Edge yet. Currently in talks with a dealer and hoping to join the crew this weekend :shades:

  13. I've only been on here a few hours but I was admiring a pic of a 2011 Edge with blacked out tail lights. Where can I find a pair of them?

Its called spray tint and a little DIY.

I use this stuff called VHT nightshades. VHT is the best IMHO,but in a pinch, you could get good results with hobby car tint (think RC cars). 5-10 bucks worth should cover the Edges lights depending on how dark you wanted to go.

If you know how to paint... go for it.

If only *think* you know how... look it up! You'll want to have lots of different grades of fine to very fine sandpaper and some automotive polish if you really want to good finish that will stand up to parking-lot-scrutiny. My Volvo's lights are smoked and everyone thinks its factory since I put numerous hours into wet sanding and polishing to a glass finish.

either way, good luck and...... YES we want pics. :yup:

  14. So would a Viper SmartStart be compatible with the 2011 Driver Package (remote start / perimeter alarm / pwr liftgate)?

I'm still undecided between the Limited and the SEL, and this might help the decision.

I like the remote start and keyless start of the Drivers package, but would like the ability to use the Smart Start from my MyTouch 4G. And could possibly go with the SEL and then add my own Remote Start (won't have the push button with this option though)

    thoughts?

  15. I'm am in love with the quietness of the cabin compared to my Volvo 850 Turbo (Magnaflow catback).

Unless it really helps with breathing, I'm not going to touch the exhaust. I will, however, change the intake piping and filter :ninja:
