  1. Most, if not every, domestic OE paint will have orange peel. That's why metallics are so popular nowadays. As Richy pointed out, the flake that they put in there breaks up the pattern.

If you want a paint job that is free of orange peel, you need to get it professionally done. Where they will take the time to measure paint depth and color sand it flat and then re-clear.

  2. I am curious if my model has the ability to memorize seats and mirrors. Per the vehicle manual, I am supposed to press a button that is the picture of a seat and hold it for 5 seconds. The only button I have with this icon is the heated seats button. Am I missing something or do I not have this feature?

I have the SEL with 202A package. (2011 Edge)

    Thank You

If you had it, you would locate the physical buttons between the steering wheel and the headlight switch.

  3. The Ex is NICE! My wife loves it! And since she works so hard with the kids all day, I'm happy to see her happy in the truck that she wanted. I guess since my last 4 purchases were Ford's we are now a Blue Oval Family.

    Sweet rides man!!!

I had to get the white too....

  4. The 22" wheels and tires add lots of weight. Stiffer springs and more damping from shocks are mandatory. There is little if any performance advantage, and the extra weight is felt in fuel milage and handling since it is all sprung weight. Heck, even the 18" wheels and tires on my 2007 Edge are heavy, and replacements are a limited choice and quite expensive. Double that for 22" replacement tires.

Perhaps it is contrary to current taste and style, but 16" wheels and tires might have been a better choice all around. Better fuel economy, better ride, better acceleration, and perhaps better handling. And many more tire choices at significantly lower prices. If they would just lower the ride hight 2" you would loose much of the gap in the wheel well and get even better handling.

    But what do I know?

Better fuel economy from 16" but not better handling. The Edge has a 60 series profile in 18". If you went to 16" you'd need to go to 70/75 OR a skinnier tire and that won't handle better.

Lower would also handle better, but that would defeat some of the benefits of a taller vehicle with more ground clearance. Air suspension could be really cool on the Edge chassis if done right. :yup:

  5. The Mustang 3.7 engine is fine with me, I'd like to see the lower body cladding painted the same color as the car, like the Edge Sport. I will consider an Edge Sport, but I like some of the creature comforts like heated & cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and power tilt and telescopic steering wheel with memory. My wifes MKS has this, and it makes it really nice getting out of the car the seat goes back, steering wheel goes up and in - really nice.

I totally agree. Honestly, if it were responsibly within my budget range, I would have gotten the MKX and matched the body panels and done something about that hideous grill (IMO). Maybe even swap an Edge Sport front clip onto the MKX.... that could be pretty hot.

  6. Came in very handy the other day at the car wash, when the keys were locked in the car,Marty

    I got a funny story:

Last night picked up my 11 Edge Limited. Drove across the street to park at the In-N-Out, used the keypad to lock the doors.....

Then realized I left the keys in the car :banghead:

Also didn't know the code exactly as I just got the card 10 minutes before that. Luckily the sales people were just about to leave the dealership. I caught them in the parking lot and they went back in and retrieved my code that was luckily written on my invoice.

I'm really glad I made that mistake EARLY (understatement ) and will NEVER do that again since I have the code ingrained in my membrane now.

I do LOVE the feature and have always wanted it (never owned a FLM)

  7. Just wondering, does anyone know what changes will be made for the 2012 model year ?

Would like to see a Edge Sport version for the MKX !

    Joe

EcoBoost engine available and of course and minor changes as needed.

MKX already has the Mustang engine and the SelectShift transmission. What else would you like to add to make it a MKX Sport? Only thing I could think of would be the 365-HP 3.5L EcoBoost from the Taurus SHO / Flex. Or are you more referring to a 'Sport' trim for looks?

  8. Have any new vehicle buyers encountered dealers wanting you to buy glass etching, if so did the dealer tell you you had to buy it as it was an option the dealer added to the vehicle so you now have to pay for it, they make you feel you have no alternative but to pay for it, if you want it fine but some dealers don't give you that option. . ..see links below

I have not experienced this exact line, but one dealer tried to tell me that "all vehicles have an alarm and a battery saver", basically telling me that it was required ($397 for the alarm that costs $125 online and $187 for some mythical battery saver)... I just reiterated his sentence in a unbelieving tone and then waited for his answer... he had the audacity to tell me "yes" to my face with a smile  . That was about the beginning of the end of my dealings with him. I found another dealer that didn't play such games and leased my '11 FWD Limited.

Were you or someone you know take for a ride?

  9. They are selling the 22" Sport wheels for $1507 USD on fordparts.com. You might say that is not bad, except for the fact that cost is PER WHEEL!!!

Really? $6000 for four of those wheels? You have to be kidding me! This is what it says under the price when you add the WHEEL to the cart:

    Quantity Per Vehicle: 4

    Package Quantity: 1

    Weight: 46

If that doesn't clarify that they are seriously selling it for $1500 per wheel. Oh man, I think I fainted!! Or maybe just farted, or maybe both.

    Come on Ford!!!

Think about it. Its a FORGED 22" aluminum wheel designed for the Edge Sport and only the Edge Sport.

Its all about scale. You have a production of about 10,000 sets (how many Edge sports were made?), it will cost significantly more than if you made 500,000 sets (18" painted rim shared by Edge, Fusion, Explorer etc).

design, tooling (huge efforts in machinery and power required to make a forged rim versus cast), and finishing (polishing doesn't come cheap) all add to the cost of the rims.

You're better off finding an aftermarket forged rim, at least you will be able to replace it more easily. I also think the Ford rims are a bit heavy for forged aluminum.

Honestly, they could have made the wheels cheaper and the Sport edition faster by including a 20" standard on Sport with 22" options for BOTH Limited and Sport. (yes, i understand that high flow dampers were designed to handle the unsprung weight of the Sport)

  10. I still see quite a few Jobs#1's in dealer inventory. Dealer stock pickings for Limted AWD are slim. Job #2 started around the end of January and from what I can figure, VIN ending lower than A80000 are Job #1.

Yes you are right about the VIN numbering. I guess there could be some still sitting on lots... but Edges average about 27 days on a dealer lot... so... I'm guessing they are getting scarce. Maybe in your area there's still quite a bit of older cars.

What is the difference between Job #1 and Job #2?

I haven't see a definitive list of the changes between the 2 Jobs, but "less noisy" mirrors have been confirmed by observation.

  11. I haven't drive my Edge much yet but...

My previous was a Volvo 850 turbo. Awesome car, but heavy.... actually heavier than the Edge with less HP and torque. (They'd probably tie in a race to 1/4mi due to the torque band of the turbo). Anyways, I'm very impressed with the Edge Ti-VCT engine's power and efficiency. I caught myself going 80 and it really felt like 70 or less, I probably averaged 75mph on my 25mi trip home from the dealership (first drive) and returned 20+ mpg. This also included quite a bit of idle time when I was showing off my ride to my cousin.

All in all, I'm super happy about the car including its MPG (I'm sure it will get even better) coupled with the fact that it does this all on 87 octane. (91 required/93 preferred for the turbo)

  12. I have the BLIS and think it worth it. Of course I still check when changing lanes but after driving an Escape for years the Edge has a larger blind spot so the BLIS really helps. In Canada the adaptive cruise control is a $1500 option. I do not do a lot of highway driving so could not justify the spend. Do you know if the Edge they found for you is a Job #2?

I'd be surprised if there were many Job#1's still sitting on lots.

  13. My mother in law just bought a 2011 Edge Limited with all the bells and whistles. Since then I have been pulling my hair out... I am the family tech support for anything computer or electronic so it's up to me to teach her how to use all the bells and whistles and configure everything. I am about to head off to one of the other sub-forums to start searching for some answers and maybe post a question or two.

I hope this site is as good as other forums I use and all my questions get answered. I have a feeling I might be here looking for answers often since the Ford site has so little information on it.

    Just as an FYI...

I am looking for details on adding contacts to the phone book if the phone will not sync the information, and how to update the maps in the navigation since they over 5 years out of date and don't have the streets that we live on. Apparently the sync voice nav has the address but the maps on the SD card does not. If we can't upgrade to newer maps then I am not sure if the NAV unit is not worth the $700.00 that my MIL paid.

You know... I have never been a Ford fan but really started to change my mind while going with my MIL to test drive cars. We actually enjoyed the ride of the Edge better than the Lincoln MKX and since the Sync system was the same there was not much of a loss. But after she bought it then we started to run into issues. We have the dealer telling us that we can sync her phone and then download her contact list using SyncMyRide.com. I eventually find a list of supported phones and her phone is supported and apparently does the contact downloads but it never works when we try it. So, I head over to the sync site and when I get there and find that there are no options to update the phone book through the web site so I open a chat window with a customer support rep.

He tells me I have to use an app called SyncMyRide and sends me a link to the site where I can download it. What a crap application! I spent 6 hours formatting data and trying to figure out how to import a CSV and then cleaning up what it finally did import. My MIL showed up today and I tried to install the contacts into the phone book. After getting errors a couple times and then trying to reformat the USB drive and re-export the contact list, I go back to the site to find in the user to user forums that the application will not work with 2011 Fords. Man... So I figured that while I tried to figure out what to do I would manually enter a few contacts into the phone book to only find that it appears you can't manually enter contacts into the phone book from the dash board screen.

This and a few other things are starting to make me think that I am correct in not "trusting" Ford vehicles. I hope that I can get the issues resolved soon... My MIL might be wanting to return the Edge if she can't do the things she was told she could do.

Oh well... I am off on a search to see if I can find answers to my questions.

    Tim

Easiest solution to me ... get her a new phone. How the hell can you drive one of the, if not the absolutely, most technically advanced Ford available now and carry a feature phone?

Tell her like this: "You have a smart car, why do you have a dumb phone?"

You can afford a $40k car... a $200 phone is nothing. Problem solved, life improved.

BTW... I had a hard time reading since MIL to me (in a car forum) usually means Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine)... not your problem, just something I deal with.

  14. I appreciate all the input BUT - the issue is NOT whether WD-40 works or what the better lubricant is --THE POINT IS THE SOLUTION IS TO FIX THE SQUEAK NOT TO PUT A BANDAID ON IT , JUST FIX THE PROBLEM.

Does this happen when anybody else drives the car? I don't want to make any assumptions to your body type, but it MAY have something to do with it.

My old car's seatbelt would squeek at certain angles against the leather/seat bolster. Try getting into the car, buckling in, and when you notice the squeek, grab the latch and rotate it to another angle and see if that helps. If so, some felt glued to the contact side will stop that.

As for the grinding brakes, get used to it. Its a product of metallic brakes and pads. Maybe ceramic pads could alleviate this. Visually inspect your brake rotors before getting in, if you see rust, use the brakes before you need them to clean up the surface.

If you can't stand the noise and like the car otherwise, I would invest in some sound deadening. Ford must have heard the complaints too because the '11s have all sorts of new sound attenuation fixes (windshield, firewall, headliner, engine cover, mirrors etc). Dynamat is the most well known, but Raamatt is a very good alternative.

With the Navigation and voice, does it work with anyone else using it? If there are still problems with other voices, I would take it to the dealer and have them test the microphone. If it doesn't hear well, it won't recognize your commands.

And maybe you are being a little picky, but that is just fine since this is YOUR car. You drive it, you should like it. If you don't, look for a way out. Check out other Edges in person and see if yours just happens to have issues.

I'm sorry you are not impressed with your 2010 as I really have nothing but praise about the 2011 I picked up last night. Well..... short of the tires at least.

    Cheers!

  15. I'm going to say that this 2011 splits the middle between a refresh and a new model purely on the amount of work put into it:

New engine (Ti-VCT) including Mustang V6 in Sport Trim with EcoBoost 2.0T to follow, 2 New Transmissions, New brakes, New Front end, refreshed rear end, New Wheel choices, New MyFord Touch system, a new and more absorptive sound pack throughout the interior, an acoustic headliner, a new robust engine cover, several subframe mount additions and upgrades, a laminated windshield, underbody shields and a re-tuned exhaust system, Hill Start assist, BLIS, adaptive cruise control, cross traffic warning system, My Key, and capless fuel tank.

I think I got it all

  16. With my 40th post, I gladly announce that I leased a 2011 Platinum White Edge Limited :happy feet: woohoo!

This is my first new vehicle and I'm super happy that I chose this car. It's just awesome

I plan on being an active member here ... for 24 Months at the very least

  17. I just noticed that the Sienna interior (Brown and Black) is not available in the Earth Metallic paint.

Who has the "Sienna" interior, and what do you thing about it? (What color exterior paint do you have with that interior?)

    Thanks

I was interested in knowing more about the Sienna interior as well.

Make sure to remember that the headliner and grab handles will always be a light tan color no matter what interior you choose. My issue with the Sienna interior is being too busy. The top / headliner is light, the seating surfaces are brown, and then everything else is black. Seems confused. Additionally, I like the contrast stitching of the other two choices. The light medium stone has the best overall matching scheme, but I don't really like light interiors.

  18. I ordered a 2011 Ford Edge Limited AWD on March 2nd. I hope to be a new Edge owner but now I'm not so sure. I called my salesman today to check on my VIN. He ran a Scheduling Results Report which had the following entries for my vehicle:

    Orders Not Scheduled

    Dir Prty: 1

Order Source: CONCEPS Source - DOE

    Reason: G26 - Plant Constraint 4 WHL L/H FULL TIME DRIVE ( DR-F )

    G14 - Production Week Full

    G12 - No Reg. Allocation-Feature AWD/ 4X4 ( OBC91 )

    G10 - No Dir Allocation-Feature AWD/ 4X4 ( OBC91 )

Does anyone know what all of this means? I called the 800 number my salesman provided - he suggested I call the Customer Relationship line as I might be able to get answers from them better than he could. Called the number and felt like they were blowing me off. Said their records show the vehicle is in processing and they didn't know anything about any problems with producing the AWD. Can anyone provide any insight?

    What color did you pick?

I know that Tuxedo Black and Candy Red will be in short supply due to a supply chain issue in Japan.
