  1. Hi,

I have the equivalent of a 30,000 mile service booked next for an '08 Edge here in Canada. As this is going to cost around $500, I was thinking does it all need to be done by Ford ? If I have the work carried out somewhere else, will Ford honour the remaining warranty. Anyone had any experience with this ?

    Thanks,

    Patrick.

As long as the service is carried out properly, they cannot void the warranty. You could even do it yourself. For them to void a warranty, they have to prove that whatever you did was the MAIN cause of the malfunction.

During a 30K service, they change oil, rotate tires as necessary, change out the trans fluid, inspect brakes and suspension, air filter and cabin filter.

I could personally do my own 30k service for less than $125 using synthetics to boot.

  2. Seems no one really wants to tell you exactly what they paid for their Edge. Off course there are many factors involved. Here in Canada incentives, packaging and MSRP are different than in the US. To keep it simple, I like to look at it as what percentage off list did I get. X pricing coupons and insentives aside, I paid roughly 15% off list Canadian list price for what I wanted. It was a factory order, delivery in just over 4 weeks, and was what I thought a fair price. Dealers have many tricks up their sleeves and when negotiating, I alway go with the out the door price which includes tax, licensing, rust proofing, extended warranty, etc. This site, along with some other information out there helped me determine this was a realistic fare price and made the process almost painless.

I think since everyone is eligible for different incentives, the best way to compare, is the price you are getting before incentives. That is truly the part that you have some control over.

So, your price before incentives compared to Invoice and MSRP for that same vehicle is the real litmus. You want to make sure you are not paying much more than invoice. For an Edge (remember, this is BEFORE incentives) getting a price from Invoice to $200-300 above invoice is good. You should also take into consideration fees such as a Doc fees. In CA it is maxed at $55, but in other states, there may not be a cap so beware.

If you think you got "Invoice price" from a dealer, look at all the other fees and make sure it wasn't made up somewhere else.

  3. This will be my first car to negotiate so we'll see :)) From what I read it looks doable. Just liking reading the tips from fellow buyers

Call the internet sales dept around your area and ask them for the x-plan price on a particular one that has the specs you want(mention it even if you don't have it.) Then say, what's your internet price compared to that? If they say about a couple hundred bucks, you know they're not playing games with you.

They should give you an price near invoice plus you get the incentives that are currently available. Don't forget to apply for the Ford brochures online and try to get a few of them to different addresses like work/home. Send one to your hubby or parents etc (they are transferable within a household). Bottomline, they randomly come with a $750 coupon that's good as cash. Choose the email option and you can just print it if you get it. I had to request like 6 before one came to my wife's email. And it came the night before I was to "pull the trigger". Needless to say, its very nice to have.yup.gif

Good Luck and remember to share pics.

  4. Rather than disconnect the battery, you can pull fuse 29 on the 2011 Edge to do the same thing. Although the fuse panel is in a terrible location, it beats pulling the battery cable.

You can't do the major updates yourself as they are only made available through the dealers. Minor updates are made available at the official Sync web site and can be applied with a USB flash drive.

You can't do major updates yourself "right now"

Once If someone smart enough and with enough access gets their hands on it....

  5. I am continuing to research the Ford Edge. Very close to either an abort or a commitment in buying an 07 SEL Plus Edge AWD. This is a fully loaded unit on hold at a local Ford dealership. 74,000KM. Very nice shape. $20,000CND. But I suspect that these vehicles are gas pigs, with sub-par brakes, much more so than most people are willing to admit. Which is a drag as I really like them. I know the 2011 is a much improved copy, but I'm not willing to take the very large depreciation that comes with buying new.

Wait 2 years for a 2011 to come off lease.

  6. Urban myth. When this happens the tranny is already toast - flushing the fluid does not cause failures. I know a former Ford transmission engineer who gets his flushed every 30K miles.

    Agreed.

Additionally, these "flushes" are just pump (trans) assisted fluid exchanges. Every fluid degrades over time (think oil) and will lose its protective and, in the case of ATF, hydraulic properties.

  7. I uploaded new pictures in natural light to try to show the true colors. Some of the earlier comments were made after I posted my first pictures that used a flash, which made the leather and woodgrain look bright orange.

    Thank you!

Honestly, it looks a ton better now that it looks brown. Was looking like a basketball before, but I didn't want to say that. Again, propers for being avant garde. This time, I'll also give you a thumbs up for it looking good. It matches the wood grain well.

EDIT: would look even better if your seats were dark like the new Sienna interior.....mmmmmm... chocolate.

  8. You sure you get all of that for $85?

The auction states for "FOR 3M PRE CUT CLEAR HEADLAMP/FOG LAMP PROTECTION KIT FOR THIS VEHICLE JUST ADD 25$. " and "THIS AUCTION IS FOR 1 NEW 3M PAINT PROTECTION FILM KIT....THIS KIT PROVIDES UP TO 17 INCHES DEEP HOOD PLUS CORRESPONDING FENDERS AREA PROTECTION PIECES AND MIRROR BACKS."

Looks like $85 gets the hood, Mirror backs and tops of fenders only.

I'll send him another email to make sure its in writing... I know... it sounds too good to be true huh?

EDIT: after going to chipguard.com and looking at the 2010 prices (they don't have 2011 on that site yet), the prices are more inline with the other guys. The hood sections on the website are $160.00, so I wonder what we get for $85. I sent him a reply asking him to explicitly state which sections are covered for $85. We'll see...

  9. WOW.... Somebody just replied to an almost 3 year old topic.

    It wasn't me.... this time.

I'll be honest, on this site, some things need to come back up. It's either that or we start new threads and lose old replies. And I bet this 2+ YO thread was on the 2nd page of some section though.

K&N PN for Edge Drop in Panel filter is KN-33-2395. They are going for about $50 right now.

  10. I'm coming home to Ford after an 8 year affair with Dodge. All the cars I've ever owned have been a ford except for my 2002 Durango. Should pick up my 2011 Edge SEL AWD tomorrow.

    My ford vehicles:

my first car, 1972 Ford Elite. It was in pretty bad shape when I bought it for $350, but considering I was 17 and paid for it myself, not too bad. I sold it 3 years later for what I paid for it.

1976 Mustang II hatchback. I loved that car! Bought it used for about $2200.

1986 Ford Escort. Last year for a carburetor engine. Stripped down cheapest model. Crank windows, no a/c. Best car (repair wise) I've ever owned. Bought brand new for $6500

1994 (or maybe 95?) Ford Aerostar. Bought it used. Transmission went at 100,000 miles. Repaired it, then we lost both the Aerostar and the Escort in a garage fire...

1997 (I think) Ford Aerostar extended. I didn't want another rear wheel drive minivan, but husband did in order to tow a boat. Bought it used.

1999 Ford Windstar. Bought demo with 4500 miles on it.

2002 Dodge Durango. Bought demo with 4000 miles on it. Was so tired of minivans.

Congrats on the purchase. You chose an excellent time to get back with Ford. They are really doing some good things.

You know they are doing big things when a previously anti-Ford guy absolutely loves his Edge (I used to say Found On Road Dead when someone mentioned FORD).

Shoot, I used to hate Mustangs BUT have nothing but good things to say about them now. Mulally FTW!

  11. Now it needs some NOS stickers, a big wing and a huge muffler out the back!

I also love it when people lower big pick-up trucks to the point where they are useless.

    Eh.... to each its own.

    But it does look good!

I like the ride height and extra clearance, so I wouldn't lower it unless I can get a kick ass airbag suspension.

Lower it just a bit for better aerodynamics and handling on the highway, or drop it to the ground for easy entry / loading, raise it up when you need ground clearance. ... I would love to be able to park it on its belly (let's see a tow truck get under that  )

  12. I'm less then a month away from getting into my Ford edge. I actually bought this vehicle sight unseen from overseas. I spoke to the dealer and it's ready to go. I had a X-plan price drawn up by the dealer and he says that a Limited AWD with drivers entry and navigation comes out to be $36,730 + plus all available rebates. Does that seem correct? I already put a deposit down on this custom order and pretty much stuck with this dealer that knows my sister, so I want to make sure it all checks out....

    Sounds right to me.

I didn't get the AWD but I got White Tri-Coat and Tow package and it was just under what you have... so it seems right.

  13. Hate to start a thread for a temporary thing, but...

...word is the Ford Sync servers will be updated this weekend, 4/9-4/11. No dealer updates can be performed during this time and the syncmyride website will also be unavailable. (Let's hope they provide support for new browser versions). May be Tuesday before the site's available.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't usually enjoy that much downtime, but that means that they are doing something potentially meaningful.

  14. Hi everyone - I've had a number of issues over the past 6 months with my 2011 Ford Edge Limited, specifically with the 'electronics' and 'stereo.' Let me start off by saying that I love my car, but these 'little things' are driving me nuts. To give you a background, some of my issues have been fixed via dealer sync updates over the last few months (I've taken my car in 4 times already), but some of the problems remain and seem to have no fix in sight. The service center thinks my problems are sync related, but I wonder if it's something else (like the stereo). I also have not read of other users posting these issues, which leads me to believe the problem may not be sync at all. Here are my problems:

    1. I have 3 different HD radio stations (in Austin, TX) that consistently never show the artist/song title, but these stations all used to work at some point. The service center is telling me they think the problem is with the stations, but they used to work. I asked them if they compared to another car with HD radio for checking and every time I've brought it in they say they didn't have one to compare to.

    2. Often my car volume will be 'blaring' when it starts up despite the fact that I left it turned down low. This problem is intermittent and the dealer never is able to reproduce (how convenient).

    3. I've had the radio station favorites/hot buttons go blank. Meaning the letters that are supposed to show inside the boxes were blank. The stations were still functional, but the station names didn't display. The issue also affected my sirius stations too. This problem lasted for about a month (straight) and then one day when I started up my car, it worked ever since.

    4. Last week, I couldn't get my radio to 'power on' - I would push the power button on the console, but nothing would happen (ie. no volume). The last station I was listening too was displayed in the lower left-hand corner of the screen, but I couldn't change the station. This lasted for 3 days, and then all of a sudden worked one day when I started up the car.

Now I am a reasonable person and I can certainly understand these problems may be caused by the sync system, but no one else I know has these problems and they are all specific to the 'radio' portion of my system. When I ask the dealer if they know about these issues and are actively working on them, I get the usual 'blank stare' followed up by the friendly 'I'm sure they will have it fixed in the next update.' I am tiered of waiting for a fix that may never come. Next time I bring my car in, I'm going to demand that they replace the stereo and/or the entire unit.

What version of the firmware do you have?

I think that most of us on the 2.7 are seeing very little problems. I had my first Navigation reset yesterday when on a Bluetooth call and trying to back up at the same time. But nothing like what you are seeing. Hopefully you get it sorted out.

If anything, make sure that the dealer knows about every little issue that comes up. If they eventually recall the system, you will have documented errors with the dealer.

  16. Process is to find Transmission cooler line going INTO the radiator (flow-wise) and pull it making sure to have spare o-rings and clamps.

Put end in a bucket, start engine and let it run out about 1-2 litres and shut off engine. Make sure you shut it off if/when bubbles start to appear. I generally do it earlier.... about 1.25 liters in.

Fill the car with the same amount of ATF as removed. Repeat process until nothing but clean fluid comes out.

have a beer and enjoy the extra cash.

  17. Hi,

I thought I would finally check in since I have been lurking on the board for quite some time. I found this forum very helpful in solidifying my decision to purchase the edge.

I picked up my AWD limited edge last night and everything is great. Synch & Touch have worked effortlessly so far. I guess time will tell but loving it so far!

Congrats! ...I've loved every minute of the last 8 days.... happy%20feet.gif

  18.

    :yup: That's him.

    As you can see, it's 8mil 3M.

I just got the PDF coverage file and it's excellent! I'm pretty sure I'm dropping the $100 on this. He seems legit too.
