Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It's possible it was a honest mistake. But if it does not have Nav then you can take it back or at least get a discount since that was obviously part of the deal. No other reason to get the SD card. -
Sheer speculation. Ford doesn't release such information ahead of time except for the aluminum F150. People thought the 2015 Mustang was going to lose 400 lbs but it didn't.

I learned how to test my refrigerator compressor last night on youtube.........

Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Nope. The software that activates Nav is tied to the vehicle but not the sd card. -
It doesn't shift to 1st gear at 65 mph.

I completely understand your position but I also understand Ford/NHTSA's position that it isn't dangerous enough to warrant a recall because you still have control of the vehicle. I could see a recall to apply the software fix to make it less likely to lose power. That would make sense.

2011 Edge Sport - max towing rate in lbs ???
akirby replied to pascalladal's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Everything. Engine. Transmission. Rear End. Chassis. Radiators. Brakes. -
Ford has had rocking seat tracks since our 93 Explorer and apparently it's still not fixed. Some things just aren't a priority and working in corporate America I understand it. I draw the line for things that can cause a fire or cause the car to lose control and I think that's what the NHTSA looks for as well. I would like to see Ford extend the warranty on more of these known problems and fix some that have lingered too long.

You should be able to see the drain line from underneath and see if it's clogged. You might need some compressed air to blow it out.
-
Could be the sunroof drain or the A/C evaporator drain clogged.

I'm not defending Ford's lack of quality or the apparent lack of replacement parts. I just don't agree that it's enough of a safety issue that Ford should recall hundreds of thousands of vehicles to replace hundreds of thousands of perfectly good throttle bodies. Don't forget that part of the solution is reprogramming the PCM so that you don't lose power when the anomaly occurs or at least it happens less frequently. It's not a physical failure of the TB - it's a sensor going out of range due to an electronic defect and the PCM gives up and shuts it down. If you really think it's a serious safety issue, get a replacement throttle body from amazon for $200 and install it yourself. Ford will refund the cost if your vehicle is covered by the warranty. If you just sit around waiting for Ford to replace it for you for several weeks or months then it must not be as serious an issue as you say it is.

2015 Edge Official Pricing with DEALER COST
akirby replied to exodus's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Just FYI - those are the same dealer invoice prices you can get anywhere else on the internet. However that does not include the FDAF (advertising) fee that is a legitimate part of the final dealer invoice. It usually runs around $400 but varies by location. There is also a small fuel fee ($8 or so). If you add up the invoice prices add destination and $400 you'll be within $100 or so of the actual dealer invoice. X plan will be about $150 higher. -
Why does everyone who has a bad battery think it's everything except a bad battery? Replace the battery!

I have a 19 year old daughter who drives 30 miles to college every weekday. If this happened to her and it wasn't covered under warranty I would replace it myself for $200 and 15 minutes of my time. I don't rely on warranties or recalls to fix something that I think is a safety issue. If it's that important then how could you wait for Ford to do something? Fix it yourself. I understand not doing a recall on a part that may only be failing 10% or 20% of the time and doesn't pose a direct safety risk. If it was that risky the NHTSA would have forced a recall. I understand if you guys feel differently.

I hear a lot of people say how dangerous these things are (not just this one but lots of other issues) but I have yet to actually hear of anyone having an accident due to this type of failure. Cars lose power or blow a tire or run out of gas every day. I just think the actual risk is minimal. It's scary as hell and damned inconvenient but I just don't see it as a serious safety issue unless you're forced to keep driving it with this potential problem for more than a couple of weeks. Then the risk would definitely go up with repeat occurences.

I already acknowledged that there are additional incentives for the dealer - bonuses, etc. that can provide profit after the sale. The coupons you're talking about are just additional factory incentives - that doesn't come out of the dealer's pocket. In my example all factory incentives come off of the factory invoice price because those are factory to customer incentives and the dealer is not involved. There can be dealer cash on top of that and of course that adds profit for the dealer. But very few dealers regularly sell below dealer invoice and even less sell at A plan prices without a pin and without huge doc fees. For Ford dealer cash is usually only on previous model years and if you use X plan or A plan you get it in the form of an additional rebate. Edmunds publishes the dealer cash on their website. I'm not saying it's impossible - just rare.

I don't like using voice commands with others in the car, either. But that's only really necessary to place a call or play a specific artist, track or playlist. Everything else can be done via steering wheel or a simple button press.

I understand exactly how dealership cost works. The dealer pays the true invoice price (what is printed on the invoice including FDAF and other fees) and gets 3% holdback from Ford which puts the actual cost of the vehicle right at A plan price before any special dealer incentives. On an actual A plan sale Ford gives the dealer an extra few hundred bucks (same for X plan). So let's say they're breaking even on the vehicle but making a small profit on the special incentives and bonuses. That profit is eaten up quickly by sales commission, finance and the overhead of just keeping the lights on in the showroom. Now factor in any floor plan interest costs and it's not hard to see that dealers are either breaking even or losing a little on new vehicle sales. Apparently some dealers have chosen to make all their profit on service and used car sales which is fine if it works.

It's also not really necessary for everyday function control while driving as I tried to point out.
-
Some people just don't like touchscreens. I'd be willing to bet in the real world even the people who say they don't take their eyes off the road actually do a quick glance and maybe don't even realize it. If you had to use the touchscreen menus while driving I would agree - but you don't. Having buttons for climate control gives you the best of both worlds.

"Samantha" is rushing our relationship at points
akirby replied to stingrayman's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Sorry - I should have re-read the topic. I'll see if I can give it a shot on the way home today. -
That's a know problem that popped up a year or two ago. Can't remember if it was fixed with a later software release or not. Do a forum search and if you can't find it I'll check the fusion forum since it may have been posted over there.

They're covered under the powertrain warranty (believe it or not).

2011 Edge SEL No Navi but getting Navi Error
akirby replied to ssscott's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I misunderstood and thought it said Navigation on the home screen along with the missing sd card message. If it says Information on the upper right of the home screen instead of navigation then as Waldo says it doesn't have it which ETIS seems to confirm. -
