  1. Just for the record, I have 4 iphones and an ipad. I don't have anything against any specific cell phones or mfrs. So what you're saying is if they put a disclaimer on the ad that says "not available on all phones" then it's ok. And my point is I don't see how that would affect anything except from a legal standpoint. People who want that feature but don't have a compatible phone are going to be upset with or without the disclaimer. Now if Ford had purposely restricted the feature to Windows based phones or something like that then it would be a different story. But as it stands any phone mfr that chooses to implement the correct bluetooth profile will have that feature. Unfortunately MFT is probably the only major commercial product that uses it right now. Seriously - would anyone NOT buy a 2011 Edge just because it didn't support contact photos with their smart phone?
  2. Oh stop it. We already went through this once. It has nothing to do with microsoft. It has to do with the bluetooth interface. Ford coded the bluetooth interface to use the profiles that provide contact photos. They have absolutely NO control over what the cell phone mfrs provide as far as bluetooth features and compatibility. This is an industry standard published interface - it's not something that microsoft created. The same goes for reading sms text messages. When sync first came out they did a lot of testing and published which phones supported which features. But with all the new smartphones and OS upgrades it would be almost impossible for them to test and keep up with every phone, os version and provider. It would be nice if they did. The only thing Ford could do is put an asterisk that says "only on phones that support that feature" but that wouldn't have really changed anything. You'd still be upset and claiming false advertising. You should complain to the cell phone mfr for not fully supporting the bluetooth profiles. They're the only ones who can change it.
  3. It would be nice if Ford could test and publish all of the feature compatibilities with all phones but given the huge number of new phones and OS versions and providers and how fast these change I don't see Ford being able to keep up with it - at least not without adding an entire team of full time testers. They did a good job of this when Sync first appeared but things were much simpler then.
  4. Perhaps you missed the other discussions. It's your phone, not MFT. Wilson had a new Windows 7 phone and it does display contact photos. Your phone must support the feature otherwise MFT can't access it. Talk to your phone provider/mfr.
  5. I don't think the nav software is installed based on comments I heard from Ford employees. If it was then the dealer could do just as you described and they aren't doing that.
  6. Correct. If the dealer can't install the Navigation software and activate the SD card then it doesn't matter. And so far they have not been able to do that.
  7. I think the writer misinterpreted what Ford said. Two quotes that indicate it must be ordered from the factory:
  8. 2.1 adds 911 assist among other things.
  9. Technically.....that's true. You only have to buy the SD card to add navigation. The difference is you have to buy it from the factory, not the dealer. It's definitely misleading but I don't think it's intentional. They were just emphasizing that once you have MFT you can get Nav for $800 instead of $2000.
  10. Yes. It makes it sound like you can upgrade it yourself just by adding the SD card but if you read it carefully it doesn't actually say that.
  11. Typically, yes, but there isn't any real definition and it's whatever the dealer wants to call it. Get the itemized list so you can see what's included and what isn't.
  12. I can't find the article I saw a few days ago but re-reading some of the press releases I think I have to backtrack here. What Ford seems to have advertised is that the SD card based Navigation was a $795 upgrade over MFT - which I think I and others interpreted to mean it could be added later. But I think Ford was simply implying that it was an option that could be added at the factory. So I don't think there was any implication that it could be added later by Ford - those were just assumptions and/or wishful thinking on our part.
  13. Not a problem as long as green and red are always in the same position on the traffic light.
  14. The latest software seems to have fixed most if not all of the complaints. Don't worry about the electronics themselves - they either die immediately or last forever. And there will be more software updates to fix more problems.
  15. Technically it's not the highest trim level. The MKX is. That's the only logical explanation - they don't want the Sport competing with the MKX with the same engine so they restricted the options. If you want HIDs and the 3.7L you have to upgrade to the MKX.
  16. MFT is new - it's a lot bigger and more complicated than Sync. But Sync and the syncmyride website has been around at least 3 years.

    3.5L Mods???

I don't see anything productive coming from this continued discussion. Topic closed.
  18. This may sound obvious but have you checked the bass setting? What about DSP?
  19. The seats fold down so I doubt there's any room.
  20. I have no idea but I do know that it's listed along with the Fuse locations in the owner's manual in the glovebox.
  21. As already explained - it's only available that way in Canada, not in the U.S.
  22. It's possible but the AWD system in the explorer has much different programming than the one in your Edge. It is specifically designed for sand, snow and mud using the terrain control know on the dash. The Edge doesn't have that even though the hardware is basically the same.
  23. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. The dealer gets around $500 from Ford for a X plan sale. Why in the world would they THROW THAT CHECK AWAY by telling you that you don't need the PIN? Do people really think dealers will throw away $500 for no reason?
  24. That's exactly what they did. Adobe Flash is not well respected in the software community. Apple thought it was so bad they won't allow it on iOS (iphone, ipad, ipod touch). Probably not the best choice but they should be able to make it work. In fact it seems to be working pretty well after the update.
