  1. Nope - you can either turn off autolocks altogether, hit the unlock button when you stop or open the door quickly.
  2. But you get a 4" screen instead of a 8" screen plus some other integrated features. The marketing reason is you want to sell more factory nav units up front. If it's a $795 option that can be added any time then more people will opt out of buying it up front and may never buy it. It really comes down to how many factory Nav sales would be lost (which is really unknown but could be high) versus the number of additional sales generated by having it optional. I think the biggest advantage would be for dealers who could order inventory with just the MFT and make Nav a dealer installed option. But I don't see it helping Ford necessarily, at least not in the short term. If you want Nav - get the factory Nav.
  3. I assume when Ford does start offering it that it would cost the same as the factory nav - $795. Edit - now that I think about it that would probably just cause more people not to order it from the factory so the aftermarket price would need to be higher - say $895.
  4. Do most of the work yourself (oil changes, etc.) and pick and choose the other ones that you let the dealer do - when and where you want it done. A lot of the cost is for labor for inspections of various kinds. You'll almost certainly come out way cheaper that way. OTOH if you plan to take it back to the dealer and just use their recommended service packages then it could be cheaper. But they make a lot of money off people who buy the plan and don't use it so keep that in mind.
  5. If it has Sync you'll see a label on the center stack that either says Sync or Microsoft or both. Also look for a USB port in the front part of the center console. I don't think Sync was offered on the 07s - just the 08s. I think it was standard on the Limited and probably the SEL plus - not sure about the SEL. I don't think it was available on the SE. Sync allows 3 basic functions bluetooth phone connectivity for hands free phone use including voice controlled dialing and for streaming audio via bluetooth (this works for phones and bluetooth mp3 players like ipod touch) USB mp3 player connectivity. This allows direct playback of audio and voice control as well as controls via the Nav screen if the vehicle has Nav Sync Services - automatic 911 call in case of a crash, health check, turn by turn directions (for edges without Nav), Sirius Travel Link, etc. etc. If you want it, find one with it because it's very hard if not impossible to retrofit.
  6. Make sure the phone is set to use Sync for audio. Also try adjusting the Sync volume during the call - it may just be turned all the way down. If that fails try deleting and re-pairing.
  7. According to the OM: How it determines that temporary manual control is no longer needed isn't explained but it does confirm that it reverts automatically at some point without user intervention. Of course shifting to M and back to D will do it more quickly.
  8. This is my biggest issue with DRLs. The simple solution is to simply make DRLs fully automatic so that the DRLs are on in the daytime and regular headlamps come on automatically at night or if the wipers are active. And don't allow them to be turned off if the vehicle is moving. Not using your headlamps at all on overcast rainy days or at dusk and dawn is FAR more dangerous than driving without DRLs in the daytime. I'm also perplexed when I flash my lights at these idiots (several times, usually) with absolutely no response. Even when it's dark enough that they should be able to see that their lights aren't on even if the dash is lit up.
  9. It's obviously possible - just depends on whether Ford decides to allow dealers to do the software update (and make the update available along with the SD cards) and I don't think they've decided yet. I'm sure they have their hands full with the new MFT software right now.
  10. You can request it through the website and it is assigned specifically to you. I wouldn't expect the incentives on the 2011s to change - they'll probably just get renewed and stay the same although that's not guaranteed.
  11. You have to request a brochure or more information from the Ford website to get the extra discount coupon.
  12. Doc fee was increased from $75 to $100 a couple of months ago.
  13. It's Canadian - looks like 215A is just the base package for the AWD sport.
  14. X plan is about $150 over invoice - you won't do much better than that. BTW - $150 doc fee is too high - X plan only allows a max $100. And some of those fees and taxes may not be allowed either - if they're not required by the government.
  15. Iphone doesn't support contact photos. Check out www.syncmyride.com
  16. I know they're required to make the engine run correctly. An out of phase Camshaft can't be good.

    3.5L Mods???

You're missing the point. The Edge does have very good performance - for a crossover. 1/4 mile times are the last thing Ford is worried about and the last thing that 99% of Edge buyers care about. When you complain about 1/4 mile times but not about how the car actually feels or drives then you come off sounding like a 16 year old bench racing with his buddies about whose dad has the fastest car. So tell me - what is the difference between a 15 second Edge and a 14 second Edge?
  18. Reported several times already in the Recalls and TSB section. Look there for details.

    3.5L Mods???

    1. bench racing 1. To discuss the possible quarter-mile elapsed time (E.T.) of a car based on a list of modifcations or horsepower estimate. 2. To discuss the estimated output (in horsepower) of one engine versus another based on lists of modifications done to each engine. 3. To discuss "which is faster?" or "Which would win in a race?" between two cars, based on 1 and 2 above.
  20. 1) your salesman screwed up 2) you didn't do enough research

    3.5L Mods???

Did they advertise the Edge's 1/4 mile time? Did they show it on a drag strip? Who said high performance equated to a specific 1/4 mile time that YOU have in mind?
  22. I equate the new safety ratings to the nuclear overkill capability. Even a 3 star vehicle is so much safer than the best vehicles 10-20 years ago. The chances of having the type of accident where having a 5 star versus 4 star vehicle makes any significant difference in survivability or extent of injuries is so minuscule that i don't worry much about it.
  23. Apparently the parking lights are not on the batter saver circuit - just the headlights and interior lights. Not sure why.
