  1. We have a 2008 Red SEL with black interior, cloth not the leather (company would not pay for leather). The cloth actually really holds you in place versus some leathers which can get slippery when they get polished up by wear. I would seriously look at the inserts as our interior is nice but looks a little monochromatic/stark. Something to break up the colour and tie it in to the exterior would really give it some pop!
  2. I thought in some States/Provinces it was illegal to have a video screen playing in the front seat (ie in the drivers view) . As for Ford ever making the options available on the fly, forget it. The legal liablility is just way to much for any company. I have no doubt that someone will modify the program and then have an accident and the legal sharks will sue Ford for not making the system hack proof. You just have to look at all the legal disclaimers on things like step ladders to plastic bags to see how personal responsibility is no longer part of our society. I hurt myself with a knife so it has to be someone elses fault. Look at Fords experience with tires on Explorers! Personally I have enough problems driving behind morons typing messages in to their Palm/Blackberry or holding a conversation on a phone held to their head while looking for their exit on the highway. I don't need/want these same people watching the latest hollywood release while doing 70 mph down a winding highway. A car is for driving and thats what deserves your full attention. You may be the best driver in the world but it is often the other driver that hits you while you were otherwise occupied. Not your fault (maybe) but you can still end up just as dead.
  3. Hey its only metal and paint ! I took a hit from a flying piece of brake drum from a tractor trailer last week. The edge was 2 weeks old. They ended up replacing the whole passeger door as the metal part went thru the inner and outer skins and tore a gash about 8 inches long from the front edge back. No, I didn't get the name off the truck and it didn't stop. 2300.00 later (taxes included) plus 3 days of rental I'm back on the road. Rental was a chevy uplander. What a piece of **it. 41,000 km on it and the tranny was all over the place, the gas gauge varied by over a 1/4 of a tank every time you started it, road and tire noise was horrendous and the interior was a a stark plastic wasteland.
  4. Bought weathertech for our van. fantastic product and well worth the money. We have the heavy duty floor mats but the new floor or cargo liners cover the entire area and seem like the perfect product for winter or wet weather protection. Delivery might be slow given the time of year.
  5. There has to be some kind of "red" car bad luck Driving on a major 3 lane highway Tuesday (had the Edge two whole weeks and 1200 kilometers!) when a transport in the lane beside me and slightly ahead of me had part of its brake assembly fall off. A piece of what definitely looks like the metal brake drum ended up punching its way through the outer and inner door skin of my front passenger door. I now have a 7-10 pound piece of brake drum for a paper weight and a complete new door on order for my 2 week old edge ! The upside is the thing didn't bounce higher and come through a window.
  6. Ordered a 2008 via our fleet provider. My order went in to the provider 10/26. Noted on system as recieved by Ford 11/02. Picked it up at the dealer on 11/27/07. That makes it under 4 weeks but note that I live 10 miles from the Oakville Ontario Ford plant and the dealer could almost walk over and pick up the cars. Also the power of a fleet buyer who deals with Ford direct. They put in a large volume order for our company directly with Ford and the dealerships were strictly for delivery/prep purposes. Where are they making the Edge in the USA ? (if at all). It looks like the Oakville plant is doing a 3 week turn around on orders so 8-10 weeks seems a little long if its sourced in the Eastern USA.
  7. My "cargo management" system consists of a plastic bin with a lid. Rubber carpet underpad glued to the bottom. I can fit a lot more stuff in it, its easier to access and it cost me about 14.00. I am tempted to pay the 250.00 for that superb piece of management engineering.
  8. I am looking for a little help from other users. I have the SanDisk E150 2gb MP3 player and have tried connecting it to the Audio system via the USB connection. All I get is a message on the MP3 player saying it is connected but it doesn't work. The MP3 is frozen with that message, no download or access to the library on the player etc.. I have followed the steps in the manual repeatedly but no luck Tried connecting with MP3 on and off Tried with navi on/off etc... I know the E150 is not listed on the SYNC compatible devices homepage but I have a hard time believing a simple variation on a model would cause it to not work. Kind of a bummer if I can't use a name brand mp3 player that is less than 1 year old. Oh well, still have CD's and the radio. Anyone have experience with this ?
  9. I have no idea but I would guess that it can't be done. obviously the lawyers have had their way (start up disclaimer anyone) but I did get the impression that the passenger was entering data on the fly in the Edge commercial we see in Ontario Canada. That said, I don't see how they could have the system distinguish who is entering data and for liability/safety reasons just designed the system so it can't be done. If it is a simple case of clipping a wire (like people used to do with the seat belt sensors) I haven't heard of it. My big challenge is to keep wet wipes in the car to clean off the navi screen once my 4-6 year old get done using their little fingers to leave smudge prints all over it.
  10. I have had my 2008 SEL for a week now and both my wife and if have found the following. 1) Someone from Ford should put a pair of kids booster seats with back rests in the rear seats and have their 4 year olds try and buckle themselves in. The seat belt latches are almost fully inset in the seat cushions to the point the kids can't feel/find them. Even parents have to dive in and search to find them. I would guess they are designed that way for the fold down feature but it would really help to have them extend beyond the cushion 6 or so inches 2) Vision out the sides and rear. I moved from a car so there is obviously going to be a learning curve but the sight lines to the side and rear are significantly obstructed versus any of our cars or even the minivan. I am 5.8 and my wife is 5.2 and we both find side and rear vision to be a problem. Thank god the side mirrors are a decent size. My wife is refusing to back the car in to parking spaces due to this problem. 3) Sync. I need to spend several hours reading and playing with this. concept is great but for me the execution isn't working yet. pairing the Treo 700 required multiple attempts. Got it working and then the car system started showing the call as "ended" after only 2 rings on outgoing calls even though the phone is still active and the call is live. Cleared the system and will try again but some forums on the net are pointing to a TREO problem versus a sync problem. My other issue is likely a simple one to fix by reading the book but.... I assumed that the "other" media device funtion would allow me to simply plug and play my mp3 player. Connection works but I cant' get it to play. I like the car and really believe you are getting a ton of value for your buck. Lots of pep and the quality seems to be there but we will see what happens after 2 - 3 years of use. Based on past experience I used to preach all the old joke acronyms for FORD but right now this might change my opinion.
  11. Its here, now all I have to do is figure out the navi and synch systems. Really fast delivery from my order date. The online system showed the following - 11/02/07 - scheduled for production - 11/20/07 - vehicle produced - 11/22/07 - dealer took delivery of car (Mississauga) - 11/27/07 - dealer called me for pick up. Only downer is I hadn't even had the car 10 minutes when someone put a scratch in the drivers side door. It was perfect at the dealer during the inspection. Parked the car after leaving the lot and came out to find the car beside me gone and a very small scratch just below the door handle. Wind was really blowing so I bet his door got caught by a gust and yanked open all the way. What can you do? Hopefully a little scratch remover will make it go away but it is really noticable on that bright red, perfect paint job.
  12. Company wheels are currently a Bonneville with "chrome" wheels. Looked great when it showed up (didn't expect the wheels or leather interior but it came off a lot after the next years model was out so they wanted to move it). Wheels are basically trashed from pitting/peeling. I hand washed it in the summer and it did car washes in the winter but all that did was get me 3 years. Turning in the Bonneville for the Edge likely in 3-4 weeks. Pretty sure I won't go to any extreme to keep the "chrome" in perfect shape on this vehicle either. As was noted in a previous post you really don't give it the serious once over when you get caught up in the excitement of a new vehicle. I looked at the Edge multiple times prior to ordering and thought the wheels looked a bit cheap but I'm not paying and "they are what they are". If I wanted true premium wheels I would do it after market
  13. The order has now been "scheduled for production" by Ford as of 11/02/07 but no delivery date is estimated. It is interesting to be able to track things so well on line versus the old standard of using the phone and bugging the heck out of our fleet manager. Just out of interest I will post again when it gets shipped just to show the current production timing. Delivery should be quick given the location of the plant and local Ford dealer
  14. One of the more popular ones in Ontario is the "Krown" type of oil spray product. Don't know what it is exactly other than a more viscous type of oil treatment. We had our van done 5 years ago and every year since ($100.00/year) and its is pristine even when up on the lift. The spray stuff seems to get in all the nooks and crannys (Canadian expression?) better than the heavier "wax" or parafin type treatments. Ours drips really heavy for a day afte the treatment (park it on the street) and then its not to bad. If you have to put in the garage you can usually pick up so rolled cardboard that you lay out over the garage floor for 2-3 days to keep everything nice and clean. I wont be treating the new Edge as its a company car and gone in 3 years so there is no point in spending my own cash.
  15. Put my order in to our fleet department last week. As of Oct 26 it is showing as "order received by manufacturer". It will be interesting to see what the delivery time is like as the Ford plant in Oakville (that is where they are made, right?) is about 10 minutes from my house. Ordered the a Metalic Red SEL with a charcoal black interior. Fairly standard package except the company has announced that all vehicles will be bluetooth capable (if available) and have navigation systems for "safety reasons". I have no idea what that will do to some of the other options like the sound system. If I read the various combinations right the navi system gets included with the upgraded sound system ? if possible I would bet the fleet people will strip out anything they can to keep the unit cost down. The only "options" we were allowed to consider even as driver paid items were the roof rails and the power lift gate. I was surprised that we could not load them up since we would be paying and it would help the resale value when we turn them in after 3 years (assuming I don't buy it out for family use). Hey, its their car and not costing me anything so as the song says... shut up and drive ! The Edge seems to be our fleet car of choice right now. Three others ordered Edges at the same time, copper, white and silver so it is going to look like a club meeting if we get together. Interesting thing was we had 3 Fords on our list (Edge, Taurus, Fusion), 1 GM (Impala) and 1 Chrysler (Sebring). Ford must be doing something with the fleet people to get more of their share. I believe we don't have any "foreign" vehicles on our list as our company tries to support the "big three" domestic auto makers. Bet pricing also plays in to the picture but it feels good to buy at home any way. It will be interesting to see how I like the Ford as I have had GM and Chrysler for the last 5 vehicles.
