Not true of all kits. Some are made so poorly that even though they produce a lot of light they burn a lot of energy. Also some have much higher start-up currents than others. I can't find the link now but there was one thread somewhere that compared a few kits that were 35-50W kits and they measured current draw. Some had 3x's the current draw during start up even though wattage was the same.

I am no expert but I don't think I would run a 100W HID kit not just due to heat issues but if it truely is 100W that is so much light you are looking for trouble. Not only will local authorities take notice but since the projectors are not made for HIDs the pattern will be poor and likely cause a lot of glare blinding on coming traffic. Obviously 100W won't come for free either so you'll need more current which could be an issue for the stock components. But that will be dependent on what gauge wire Ford used and the quality of the kit, which means you might need a harness.

Anyone get a hard drive to work?
wlepse replied to Dingo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
One other thing to check out is the power consumption of the drive. Older HDD can use 3-4x's the power of newer drives and sometimes require additional power. You can purchase USB cables with two connectors so that you can utilize the power supply from both ports to spin the disk up. Niether of the drives I tried needed the extra power but somethig to consider. -
I wish they did polished aluminum.

Anyone get a hard drive to work?
wlepse replied to Dingo's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Started testing this out myself and found NTFS is no good as well. Then reformatted to exFAT or something like that and it worked fine. My file structure is artist/album/song. I am going to try a few other drives to see if it makes a difference with different manufacturers and capacities. -
Great info...hoping to have friend help me out with this. But I do have a general question. I was searching around for more info and found this link at etrailer: http://www.etrailer.com/question-12168.html It states that for the Valley you need to drill an access hole but for the hidden Hitch you do not. They even have a video of the install. But what I fail to understand is why you can't do the same thing for the Valley. If both kits require you to fish your hardware into position what difference would it make if I did it from the end of the channel or drilled a hole closer to where they go? Does anyone have any insight on this? Is it just because Hidden Hitch provides a better setup to pull the bolts through?

Really? I must have missed that one. What are they changing? Or are they just removing the features that don't work so they don't have to oversell it?

It is definitely cheesy but who thinks any wheel upgrade at a dealer is worth what they charge?

Traffic - Sirius Travel Lync Issue
wlepse replied to spongers's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I was looking at the Sirius site and it seems fairly ambiguous what you get. I really don't understand what the differences are in their packages, one is the travel link services, then there is traffic and then nav traffic. But I also found a chart that said Ford products included traffic with the travel link services...or at least that is what I thought it implied. I guess I will watch this thread. I am still in the trial period so hopefully you'll get this straightened out before I subscribe. -
Don't have all the Sirius channels
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I do think it is locking up because sometimes it reports back the categories fairly quick (~10 sec) and other times I can leave it for 10 min and not get anything. Also I have tried pulling up a list of a sub catagory figuring it would have less to populate and still nothing. But I can punch in any station or seek through them all so they are available. One other thing I noticed is the mapping seems to be wrong if I ask for a specific station I sometimes get another. But I think I saw this is fixed with an update. -
Don't have all the Sirius channels
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
At lunch I played with it some more and was able to get more channels by directly punching in a number so I guess it is all set up, but the browse feature is dead. -
It isn't a crush washer? Most cars I have worked on use disposable crush washers on the drain plug. I have been able to reuse them on occasion when I didn't have new. But I would think if it came off the drain plug that easily it was likely a disposable crush washer.

So I picked up my new Edge last night and was listening to Sirius on the way home but noticed I hardly have any stations. Maybe 20-30 total show up and the browse feature just locks up. I know they have a lot more stations than that so I am wondering if I am still in dealer demo mode? I did see a Sirius card in the package of info...am I supposed to do this on my own? I would have thought the dealer would do this since it appears as if I have all the features Sirius offers...minus some stations. If the dealer didn't initialize the trial period how long will this last?

Out of curiosity...did your kit only come with one key fob? If so do you know if another can be added? I prefer the integrated look of having the remote start in the key but am afraid the quoted range of 300' might be more like 100' in the real world. A guy I work with has the bidirectional and it is useable from inside the office to his car about 600' away. But only getting one key fob might be a deal breaker for me since we both want to be able to use this feature.

2011 SEL Cargo Area Wire Harness Passenger Side
wlepse replied to Scemjata's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Wow...surprised to hear that. I thought I read a posting by Akirby that said Ford stopped using one size fits all wiring harnesses. This gives me hope that a power liftgate might be prewired and all I need to do is get a few parts and have teh body module reprogrammed. -
Thanks for the confirmation. One vendor sent me the Ford wak through and it looks easy but it did mention using the IDS to enable remote start. Was thinking if the dealer was going to charge me 100 bucks to do this maybe I should just apply that money towards software so I can do it myself or other things in the future. Anyone know of a good program? Found FOCOM yesterday but didn't have enough time to really read through what it can do.

2011 SEL Cargo Area Wire Harness Passenger Side
wlepse replied to Scemjata's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Might it be for the hitch wiring? -
Well some with 2011 have reported the clunks and seal leaks....don't know if these are exactly the same issues or some variation there of as Ford tries to find a solution.

Man...I was all set to pull the trigger on a new Edge but now this leaves me wondering. http://www.seegerweiss.com/product-liability-actions/ford-edge-ptu-failures/ I may still roll the dice since otherwise the car seems fairly reliable but damn it does take away some of the enjoyment.

Well drove the car at lunch and played with the MFT and it seems really nice. Looks like we are going to go for it. Salesman took my credit info but it looks like they won't be able to get it entered until tomorrow. So pick up will be Tuesday. So on to more questions....got a quote on the Ford ESP plans and am wondering if they cover the MFT. I would think the Premium Care does since it says it covers nav but not sure if they consider it an add on or an integral part of the MFT. Saw one thread here where someone was very pleased with the plan since it covered their Vista roof repair...but what is the general consensus? Web searches reveal a lot of negatives but often people only post when they are not happy with the plan and often don't tell the whole story. Also can anyone confirm if you need to purchase these within a certain time frame of purchasing or so long as the factory warranty is valid you can add it?

OK found some more info from digging around. Seems like there are two options; BC3Z-19G364-A and BT4Z-19G364-A but they will both likely require a hood switch. The first is the one that comes with two keys but the website selling it recommended professional installation. I assume this is due to the immobilizer chip needing to be programed into the ECU but it otherwise plug and play. The second only includes one remote bidirectional keyfob but is supposed to be plug and play. I sent an email to the reseller to see if they have more info on installation. If anyone has experience please chime in. The one with two keys can be had for ~$180 and the other for about 225, even if I have to pay an hour for programming that isn't too bad.

akirby....can you tell me where you are getting the invoice numbers? If I go to Edmunds and start with a 2011 SEL AWD, add vista roof, rapid spec 202A (with discount), add chrome 18" wheels, AW mats, nav and destination it says invoice is 36062. They indicate the true market value to be 36405, thats why I didn't see this a particularly good price. I even checked KBB and they say invoice is the same but up the fair market price to 37674. What am I missing?

Looking at buying a 2011 SEL but it doesn't have the factory remote start. From the accesories catalog it appears as if you should be able to add the Ford factory remote start and I saw a posting here where someone had it added to their LTD Edge but I don't know if that applies to the SEL. The dealer is offering to install and aftermarket but I am reluctant since there already seems to be plenty of bugs with the MFT and I don't want to take a chance Ford will blame accesories. The person that had it added to their LTD said it was like 400 bucks and included 2 more keys...can anyone confirm if this is available for the SEL and if it is something you can do on your own?
