  1. Ok so I have been reading around and a lot of people claim there are issues with adding HIDs to the Edge due to the Ford wiring and the pulsed voltage. Many suggest getting a wiring harness specifically the Retro Solutions version since it is Ford specific. But can anyone tell me what is in this harness? I have a DDM Tuning 55W kit from another vehicle I ccan throw in but I would have to buy the correct bulbs and get the harness but as far as I know their harness is just fused. Am I really getting anything benefitial with the retro solutions? The cost differential is pretty high >$100! Thoughts?
  2. Never thought of that...thanks...will have to pick up a kit this weekend.
  3. Well looking back at this I wish I did more homework. If you look at the last picture in the first post you will see a picture of the older style exhaust cans. These cans were stamped and welded having their widest part below the hitch. The newer exhaust has a rolled and crimped design so they have the same width top to bottom and this is where the interference comes from. I now have a Curt 13067 on order which clearly shows the newer style cans in their instructions so I am hoping for the best.
  4. One thing I really have an issue with is having a clean windshield. Since getting the Edge I noticed there was one suction cup mark that I thought may have been from a GPS unit since the car was trasnferred from another dealer. I have tried several times to clean this off but can't, but in my cleaning attempts I have realized this isn't from a GPS but from when Ford installed the windshield as I can see (4) suction cup marks in an orderly pattern. I am reluctant to use anything harsh to try to clean since I saw other threads about the dash color being affected so does anyone have any ideas? I have it to the point I only notice it is there is condensation inside the cabin or if the lighting is just right. Still distracting and annoying.
  5. Well it is the wifes car so i am the one that hears it. But it is definately not the vents....sounds very much like road/wind noise. But what is weird is that I don't hear that much noise when in the car so I can't see how the mic is picking up something I don't really hear myself.
  6. Just found one other oddity and it isn't related to the car. The flash drive I used for the update is screwed up. It is a 2GB stick that still shows as a 2GB stick but won't allow me to write to it beyond 464MB leaving 1.43GB unused. Tried reformatting but nothing seems to clear this....before the upgrade this device was full of other stuff I took off since the installer said the drive needed to be empty, so I know it was working last week. Maybe it is unrelated but thought I would mention it. If this thing is toast that is fine but I would have been upset if this was a bigger stick. ****Update: Last night I tried formatting the stick again still nothing. Then I tried switching from FAT to NTFS, that did the trick. Haven't gone back to FAT yet but at least I recovered teh part that was unusable prior.
  7. Interesting...we never had it randomly change sources before and this time it did it wasn't during start up it was about 5 minutes into the ride. Went from Sirius to FM.
  8. Well it took my unit almost an hour to update from 2.7. Immediately I noticed that the screen was more responsive and when I went to the syncmyride site it immediately updated my status, then within an hour we noticed it is randomly changing audio sources. Never did this before so this does not look good. Also alsways sasys call ended when we get in the car???? So 2.11 is no better for me...if anything it is worse.
  9. We didn't have this initially but it started at some point and the latest update did nothing to fix it. I did read here someone had a TSB applied that helped but I think it was an update they did to sync so ymmv.
  10. I had a ProClip mount in my previous car and loved it. Easy to install and rock solid. I was a little concerned when I upgraded the GPS from a 3.5" to a 5" that it may bounce but it was great. But I can't comment on their offerings for the Edge.
  11. DunePearlEdge...sent you a PM. I gave you the contact I had there and if you PM me your email I'll send you the file for the 2011.
  12. Well if the kit for the 2007 is like the 2011 it is plug and play...then you need to have teh car programmed at the dealer to enable the features.
  13. Does anyone know if you can drive the car during the update? Besides the fact I don't want the car idling for 45 minutes my state has laws about idling your car and with some of my neighbors this could be an issue. I would rather not take the chance I will be forced to shut it off mid update.
  14. Well I don't know if it was just wishful thinking or the fact I hadn't driven the car enough to notice the issues but driving from northern NJ to SC for vacation I noticed several bugs. I saw the other thread indicating that 2.11 is available as a user update but since this unit was OK for the most part I am not sure if I will notice the benefits until we do another long trip. Only once before the trip did we have a fault and it was cleared by picking a new destination. On this trip we noted the following: 1) On the way down I set the destination in the GPS and the location looked right but the choice of roads seemed suspect. I have it set for fastest route and it took us off I-95 way up in NC at 795. I followed it and while it got us there we were on a ton of back country single lane roads, some of which had 35 mph limits. I really don't know why it picked this routing. Has anyone else had such a strange pick of roads? We made OK time but that was because no one was on them....if there had been any vehicles it would have slowed us a lot. 2) On the way home, also with fastest as default, it picked a completely different routing. This time sticking to bigger roads out to I-95 but still missed a few short cuts but this may be related to the map set being out dated. Has anyone else noted the route differing depending on direction? I know my TomTom did this but it based route on IQ routes. As far as I know this system doesn't do that. I do have the traffic link but it is set to warn me not automatically recalculate route. 3) Several times along the way, both ways, the GPS would lose its location and not know where it was and display a ? on the gauge cluster. Luckily most of the time it did this we were on I-95 so there was no question where we were but not sure why it couldn't pin point us. Only one of these instances were there several interchanges where it could have been confused on which one we were on so I can't figure out what is going on. 4) But the big nav failure was an SD card fault. Luckily it didn't happen until I already knew where I was but I would have been royally screwed if this happened in the NC back woods at 4am. Basically after about 9.5 hours of working fine; when I got off the NJ Turnpike onto the Parkway the unit froze and didn't update the map, time or mileage to destination. I was able at first to go through some of the nav screens before it indicated a fault. After a reboot of the system it was fine. 5) USB music skipping but came in clusters. Not sure if there was something else going on in the background but it seemed like this would happen several times within a few minutes then be fine again for an hour. Maybe the processor isn't fast enough when something else is running? 6) Voice recognition? Originally I chalked it up to being new with the system and not knowing the right commands, but even after knowing the right ones I still only have a 50/50 shot.
  15. Contact partscheap.com. When I was looking at the kits for the 2011 they sent me the pdf instructions not to mention their pricing was good too.
  16. Ok so after a bit of night driving I can say there is little difference if any. The HIR's I have are Toshiba's from Candlepower. I did a little reading around and it seems that these bulbs are no longer made int he same facility and shortly after I purchased them they moved production to the PRC and quality suffered. I also read that the specs on these bulbs is +/- 15% for both HIR and HIR2, so if I happen to have pretty bright HIR2's and dim HIR's they may seem equivalent. I tried to get some pictures but with a point and shoot it is next to impossible to get a good shot.
  17. I really think I just hate people in general. I actually saw a license plate the other day I wished I had...IH8UALL
  18. OK...have to ask. How hot was this woman? Oh and good job cleaning that up.
  19. At least for a 2011 it does require the hood pin switch which is about 30 bucks but it is plug and play....again for the 2011
  20. The tint is killing your output but if you decide to keep it it a bulb change alone won't do you any good. Typically OEM HID's fall in the 4500-5500k range which is where you'll see the highest output. But they are typically 35W so going to a larger more powerful ballast would potentially give you more light. I say potentially since some manufacturers of aftermarket kits over estimate the power. I have seen some 35W kits that were pretty much as bright as the 50W.
  21. What kind of range do you get with this remote start? The literature says 300' but I am torn between adding this to our SEL or the bidirectional one that has a 1000' range.
  22. Send these guys an email: http://www.partscheap.com/Ford-Edge-Remote-Start-Systems-p/7l2z-19g364-aa-8.htm I am looking to do the same in my wifes 2011 and they were able to provide the install instructions for hers. On hers the job is easy but you do need to get it programmed.
  23. Ha ha...doubt the wife would go for that! She wasn't really interested in the htich until I showed her this thread where I could make it completely hidden, so to say I am going to drop more money...well I know where that is going.
  24. Check here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/8149-new-mft-gremlin/ I had something that sounds very similar. It appeeared will I was driving and rec'd a call. After teh call terminated the dialog box remained. The GPS was still working but was grayed out. Eventually I found that if I put in a new destination it cleared itself.
  25. Trust me I would love the wife to actually take care of her own vehicle but we bought the Edge from a dealer around the corner from my office and as she put it "it will be easier for you to get service done." So I am just dreaming that she would do it herself. With that said I think we may just go with the extended warranty and have them do some services as needed. If I am still going to have to be responsible for the servicing I might as well do it myself and know it was done right. Thanks for the help akirby!
